2016 Regional Championships Results

By tropoFarmer, in Imperial Assault Skirmish

Tulsa regionals - there were 4 people from Texas, 1 from Missouri, 2 from Arkansas, 2 from Kansas and at least 4 locals. Not sure on the other 2. Nice to see it truly was a REGIONAL tourney :)

15 total players. 6 bantha lists - 1 of which was double bantha. 8 rebels - I think 3 spams and 5 twins with filler (don't quote me on this breakdown). 1 imperial trooper list.

Top eight was 4 bantha, 3 rebel, and the 1 imperial.

Jesse Eakin from Vader's Finest got first against JD from Mandalorian tactics.

It was a really fun place to play and everyone I got to talk with and play was friendly and fun. I learned a lot about how to play my own bantha. Especially since I'm currently the only person in my local play group that plays it so I hadn't had enough practice in the mirror. My biggest mistakes were probably over extending my e nexu just barely into focused HK's ranges and not using my bantha to block off pinch points. Most of my games I was just that half step behind and trying to play catch up and not able to turn the corner. Can't wait to get back down sometime.

I had a great time in Tulsa. Great competition and good experience for my first tourney. I misplayed the final two turns with my rebel troopers (and got outplayed those rounds) in my second game or I would have made the cut, which was good as it made me more aware of how my mistakes can be exploited. Not surprised that Jesse won. Cool guy, great with that list (he used the same list that he won in Texas with).

That's a lot of banthas...

Thanks for the Bantha Report ...I mean, the Tulsa Report! I'm honestly a little bit surprised that Banthas were so dominant. I haven't really had a hard time against them, myself. But maybe that just shows how much to learn I have.

In my experience, until you get at least decent with them the bantha is actually as liability. As you get better it starts to really shine, though.

Honestly, I wasn't very surprised. I did however learn a lot more about how to play it since I'd been used to using it very offensively and I saw more about how to use it defensively and obstructively.

I was more surprised that my friend was the only Imperial list. Don't get me wrong, I didn't want to see half imperials there but only one was surprising.

I made that exact argument, they looked it up, and this is what FFG wants. They showed me this article about how this isn't collusion.

It's insanity.

EDIT: https://www.fantasyflightgames.com/en/news/2016/4/15/intentional-draws/

There it is in black and white, agreeing to draw isn't collusion. The TO was like, I feel for you, this seems totally absurd to me too, but it's what FFG decided, my hands are tied.

Welcome to x-wing 2 months ago guys :/ Luckily they are doing away with the IDs for all games except swlcg and netrunner (or so they say) but they're going to wait until all the regionals are done since they already had affected some, so we just have to ride it out and hope FFG has learned something from all of this.

Regional, Nationals and Worlds (and to some extend Store) Championships would be classed as 'Premier Events'

You don't play Basic Structured rules at Premier events. Basic rules would be played at intro games / Seasonal events (Spring etc) Or games down your local club etc.

This just 'devalues' the event as a Premier event. imho anyways.

Are you supposed to put the rules up beforehand not make them up on the day? Which is what happened in this case.

If the game gets bigger, the consistency will come (for the most part). Store championships 2 years ago for x-wing were 60 min rounds instead of 75, and many cuts weren't done when they should've been. With a bigger player base showing up at these events, there were more players aware of how the events should be run to help catch those things and correct them before the event(s) started. Seen in several times. Just continue to try to grow the game as far as regular tournaments g oetc. and the rest will come.

Michigan Regionals. 18 players (might have been 17) 4 rounds of swiss w/ cut to Top 4.

Personal Highlights for the day:

Game 1: Murne False Orders a rStorm to kill a wounded rRG, then Murne shoots the rStorm and kills him.

Game 1; Davith w/ Focus and Hidden rushes into 2 eStorms, 1 rStorm, 1 rRG, ends up killing 2 eStorms after 2 full activations of Davith. Gets cleaned up by end of round 2 with Vanish still in my hand. :-D

Game 3: Murne False Orders a eStorm w/ focus to kill one of his squad mates and then shoots an eHeavy for 4 damage.

Game 5: Davith rushes out in front of Luke and next to Bossk (who has already activated) and triggers Vanish with rWampa, 2 rHK's and a rTrando still to go. Bossk gets cleaned up by my back line of Diala, Luke and Leia while having full HP.

Cheers the the info.... looks like we're starting to see some Bespin figures.

Sad to see that tournaments are still being run incorrectly.

Regionals with 18 people should be 4 Rounds of Swiss and cut to Top 8.

That was pointed out to the TO but he decided to do Top 4 anyway.

Yesterday, Regionals in Utrecht, Netherlands, 4 Rounds, Top 4 Cut.

I won using:

3x rOfficer

2x eStormtroopers

1x rStormtroopers

1x rRoyal Guards

Great location, great players, great tournament.

The other list in the Top 4 was Points Denial Wookies:

3x rWookies

eSaboteurs + Computer

Gideon + Diplomacy

Threepio

Rebel High Command

The last Top 4 list was Twins with some Sabs, but I don't have the particulars.

This was my second regionals playing this list. I tried Bossk out, instead of eTuskens and last resort, but I found he took too much away from the list to warrant playing. So, all I did was switch out some command cards from the last regionals. We had 18 people with 3-4 byes. We ended up playing 4 rounds with a top 4 cut.

Here is the link if you want to read what the cards do: http://ia-armies.com/army/F4L0Ctbb

List is: 2x eNexu/eTusken/eHKs/Gideon/C3PO/Temp. Alliance/Devious Scheme/Beast Tamer/Explosive Armaments (on HKs)/Last resort (on 1 Nexu)

Command Cards: 2x Jundland Terror / 2x Pummel / 1x Wild Fury / 1x Parting Blow / 1x Grizzly Contest / 1x Negation / 1x Ferocity / 1x Tough Luck / 1x Urgency / 1x Element of Surprise / 1x Opportunistic / 1x Seize Initiative / 1x Planning

List I played:

Round 1: Chewie list with Gaarkhan/wookies/filler on Deception game

Round 2: Twins with Murne/eRebel troopers/gideon/3po/smuggler on Drinks and Dealings

Round 3: My buddy with the exact same list but a few different command cards on Reprogrammed

Round 4: Repulsor Tank/2x Estormies/eISBs/2x offciers on Battlefield Eng

Top 4: Twins with Murne/eRebel troopers/gideon/3po/smuggler on Constant Motion

Finals: Twins with Murne/Davith/Daila/gideon/3po on Fallout

All in all my list performed as usual. It loves killing things and does it very well. I almost got screwed in the semis when I didn't know it was an untimed round till the end of round 3 lol. Shout out to RIW for holding the event and it running pretty smoothly overall. Would love to answer any and all questions. So, leave replies for me to answer.

Just a small note, I didn't run Gideon. Had Rebel High Command, Balance of the Force and Heroic Effort.

Oh yea sorry Capt. I actually didn't remember you having Gideon, but I couldn't think of what else ti was lol.

Thank you! Did Hide meld well with Deflection?

Thank you! Did Hide meld well with Deflection?

Only got it to combo twice as I used Davith as a major distraction to let my other heroes close distance. Both times was against a focused unit (eReb Trooper, and rHK). However with 3 Force Users I used both of them 3 out of my 5 games.

I'm considering taking Wild Attack instead of one though as a RRGG focused Diala with Element of Surprise and a discard for Shattering Blow is hilarious to chuck at someones big guy or list lynch-pin.
