I don't understand why I would use enhanced scopes: it makes my pilot #? a 0 until the end of the round. What benefit is that?
enhanced scopes question
It lets you move first. So you can't get blocked before you move. Then you can still fire at your normal PS.
when I equip it to my ship(s), do I have to use it all the time or just when I want to?

It's a mandatory effect.

...that, IMHO, makes it overpriced. It certainly has its uses, but it'd make a lot more sense as a 0-pt upgrade than having to pay for it, given it is mandatory.
If it was *optional* - IE., declare at the beginning of the round if you are using it or not - then I could totally see it being worth paying for. As it is...ehhhh....
It has uses but its not as good as other options. If it was free i'd consider it over the other goodies in that slot.
Biggest reason i'd see bringing it is if you are doing a swarm tactic but you got that one guy that has high skill. Depending on the way you like to move formations, that could be a pain in the butt having him/her move last instead of with the PS1-3 shmucks. They'd still shoot first, but they'd rarely have an enemy ship fly between their formation because of a gap at PS5 or something. Rare as hell, but i could see it.
I used to use it all the time because i never saw WHY you'd want to move last until about 8 games in and realized you get cockblocked a LOT if you move first and it makes chasing people really **** difficult.
Is nice on bombers to put bombs in the way of other ships.
It is overpriced. If anything deserves to be a 0 cost system, Enhanced Scopes is it, since it comes with its own drawbacks.
I'm tempted to try it on a Chopper-piloted VCX-100 sporting Zeb crew, ABT, and Ion Projector as an uber blocker. Shoot across the map and ruin a swarm's day...

It works great on Deathrain.

Also, I like it on Yorr in my pap aces list. I run my shuttle pretty aggressively, and love to be able to block with it. Especially against U-Boats.... I can move before them and block up one or two, then shot before them to help OL and whisper kill another before it shoots.
I think you might be mistaking Enhanced Scopes. It only works for the activation phase so not the entire round.
So you might be moving at pilot skill 0 but you will still be shooting at your normal pilot skill. Enhanced scopes is not damaged cockpit.
It is a way you can block other ships or avoid getting blocked by moving first. It is a way of making sure you will get your actions while being cheaper than Advanced Sensors.
One common build that uses Advanced scopes is the Six Sigma which is Echo with VI adv cloak and choice of crew and system with 2 Sigmas with Enhanced Scopes Intel Agent and Stygium Particle Accelerator. it makes the phantoms very anoying blockers while Echo becomes the terror. Sort of an Hammer & Anvil strategy.

It was envisioned as a budget Advanced Sensors to stop your shuttle getting blocked. Never really took off. There's a case for it on Deathrain and that's about it.
It, along with Greedo, were both designed in the era before 0pt cards existed. It's absolutely a candidate for having been 0pts, being an interesting double-edged ability that is still, on average, to your benefit.
Ironically, our first 0pt card, Chopper, could well have been a fair price at 1pt - because it's optional, and in times of desperation honestly pretty awesome. ![]()
Used to be my go to system for Deathrain, but Accuracy Corrector just seems like a better choice.

Given Deathrain's speciality is bombs, I'm interested why you whack accuracy corrector on him? Just to ensure his primary always goes through?
It's also quite nice on ig88c

Theres several cards that just never get used now because they have this odd double-edge and arent free. Outmaneuver and Expose comes to mind: Outmaneuver lets you stress yourself to force the opponent to reroll ONE die. Thats a pretty hefty price considering its not a free card for a simple reroll, even without factoring in the multitude of die modding out there (that and i think it clashes with the "You cannot reroll a reroll!" issue). Expose trades 1 agility for 1 offense, again if it was free i'd debate it but it isnt so if you dont kill the only thing that can retaliate after doing it youre gonna get hurt.
Though i just thought of something.....Expose on 0agi ships....i wonder if something denies you from doing that for free extra damage.

To make him more than a one trick pony. A 37-ish points ship that is not capable of doing any primary weapon damage doesn't really have a place. ACs don't do much against high damage mitigation aces, but Deathrain wrecks those anyways with his Conner Nets. It makes him a whole bunch more usefull against anything with low agility. As a benefit he also gets to shamelessly boost on turns where he doesn't net people.

that's not what outmaneuver does. I think you are confusing it with elusiveness. And expose on 0 agility has been a thing since decimators have been out. It's fun on RAC with experimental interface.

Gotta love those 7 point point-sink combos. But ya, it is pretty fun. ![]()

i've done a very similar build, and it is fun. Throw on Anti-Pursuit Lasers and you have a downright (potentially) nasty ship throwing 5 dice at range 1, and getting to Autoblast 2 unblockable hits as well. Enhanced Scopes definitely has it's niche, and this may very well be one of them.

It's an older card from a more civilized age.

Nothing says civilized like brutally decapitating your foes with a laser sword.
