You are pretty much forced to do these missions which means you can't do the side missions you want. Considering after a bunch of campaigns I still haven't even SEEN a lot of the red missions I want come up as an option, this is pretty bad.
In the original campaign our group had all their red missions come up in a row. The idea is variation, every time you play things might be different. You don't have to do the threat missions...
You don't have to do the threat missions...
No, you don't have to, but intentionally losing, which is what you're doing by not doing threat missions, isn't how you should be playing.

I disagree, there are plenty of side missions whose rewards outweigh both the boon and getting rid of the bane.
they are growing on me.
i was in the same boat, as i thought heroes would only do threat missions. the threat missions are not super annoying.
i make sure i put all the rewards for potential missions on the table so the rebels can pick easier. so far they have only done one threat mission and they have been through a few side quests.

I do the same thing. Here is what you are fighting for or against with each mission.
As stated on Episode #26 of our Podcast, I really dig the boon/bane mechanic. I like the idea of there being more than 2 side missions available. It makes selecting the side mission with the best outcome a little trickier. Also it helps the imperial player to get some agenda missions in play because justifying 3 threat when you can pressure rebels into not taking a threat side mission is much more worth than normally.
I do expect this mechanic to be unique to Return to Hoth though. But I am excited to see what they cook up for the next big box expansion. More thoughts on this also in the newest podcast episode, as it would be too much to write here ![]()

This was my thinking as well, but as others have stated, it makes the Hoth campaign structure very repetitive.
Most Rebel players will choose these missions right away and it won’t give the Imperial player enough time to draw the desired agenda mission card/obtain enough influence. It doesn’t help that most ally missions are instantly glossed over as well, so embarking on these threat missions early is a no brainer decision it seems.
I’ve got mixed feelings about the bane/boon system (though the two threat missions that I played were really fun, so that’s a plus) so I’m just hoping the next big box expansion introduces its own twist to the campaign structure ![]()
In our current Hoth campain where I'm the IP, the players first picked the side mission that gives them wookiees and then one of the threat missions, so I don't see there being a problem...
