Regionals Data

By shmitty, in Star Wars: Armada

What the hell does MSU mean. I know it's the clonisher list but seriously bugging me.

Multiple Small Units. It's a holdover from other games where you take multiple units just large enough to be maximally combat effective, so that your opponent had to deal with multiple powerful targets at once instead of dealing with a single target they can whittle down over time.

As the name implies in Armada, it's taking multiple small ships, kiting them for maximum combat efficiency per point, and as many activations as possible.

.... Pardon me, but that sounds like a really ugly name haha.

They are more maximally combat effective than your normal Raider though, which are just activation placeholders and AA.

So far we have data for the following:

  • San Antonio - 29 Players - 4 Rounds + Cut (complete)
  • Springfield - 30 Players - 4 Rounds + Cut (incomplete - top 4 only)
  • Louisville - 16 Players - 3 Rounds (complete)
  • Fargo - 9 Players - 3 Rounds (complete)
  • SoCal - 21 Players - 3 Rounds (incomplete - attendance only)
  • Kansas City - 14 Players - 3 Rounds (Incomplete - attendance only)
  • Pittsburgh - 16 Players - 3 Rounds (Incomplete - factions and admirals for Top 8)

Has anyone seen mention of other Regionals going on? I haven't had time to hunt for other tournament reports on other parts of the interwebs.

What about the future? I will be TO'ing in Vancouver, WA this Saturday and will have all the info for that one. What else is coming up? Who can get us more data?

Thanks for crunching the numbers shmitty, some great stuff here!

Did you ever end up posting your spreadsheet? I'd be really interested to see the breakdown on deployments (averages, top 8/4/1 chart, etc). I can do it myself if you have posted it; otherwise, think you could run those numbers?

I haven't posted the spreadsheet yet, but thanks for the reminder. I will try to do that soon.

I will see what I can do to run numbers on deployments totals as well. Shouldn't be too hard.

NY is coming up. I'll try and get as much info as possible

Indianapolis is this weekend. It seems like it going to be the biggest regional yet.

I will also come out and say that I think part of the popularity of Demolisher is due to the relative unpopularity of the VSD.

When you are building an imperial list and looking at points, Demolisher (naked) is 66 points at a bare minimum, more if you take a GSD2 (but why). A naked VSD1 is 73 points, which is one upgrade away from Demolisher.

But the VSD is slow as hell, and everyone knows that and exploits it. The Imperials, at four ships (vs the Rebel five, who in the same points neighborhood have the Neb B escort with its titles, the MC30, and the AF2), simply don't have other options.

This is not to deny the power of Demolisher, but also to say that as flotillas (uniquely equipped to block Demolisher) and more ships arrive in the next two waves or so, this problem may solve itself. Patience is probably the correct response here. In a technical sense, if all the Imperial ships were equally liked and played, you'd expect to see it in 25% of lists, so it's not totally crazy with the showing here.

Yes! This is exactly what I was thinking.

I finally popped in this thread and WOW! The days complied in this thread is amazing. This thread alone should put an end to a ask if the anecdotal evidence all over these forums. Seriously one of the best threads ever

I TO'd an X-Wing tournament yesterday, and dutifully uploaded the data to List Juggler.

The closest thing we have to that (a data-collection website) is the Mini Ranker, which doesn't get as much use. What really helps with List Juggler (aside from Sozin's webbuilding skills) is that they've decided on a squad numbering standard, ie. the one produced by Voidstate.

I wonder if fab74 and Nevetz who have the more prominent list builders might figure out a similar standard, perhaps in collaboration with stmack from Mini Ranker.

Boston is this Saturday. I'll see if the TO will let me have copies of the lists, but will make sure I get the top few.

Any idea how well Boston's might be attended? I'm thinking of making it my first ever Armada experience >.>

At Boston, not, competing, be I, will.

I'm taking my fiance to the Eagles Steelers game in August since it's the day before her birthday. I won't lie, if there's some way I can squeeze in some Armada while I'm in town, I will. But I really don't expect to LOL!

That's a very much at your own Peril kind of thing.:D
