Ghost & Proof of Purchase

By any2cards, in X-Wing

Since I know I have read several threads about missing Proof of Purchases (POP) when it comes to the Ghost, I thought I would post this update.

I also came to realize that there were no POPs when I opened my 2 Ghosts. Given that I am like many of you (perhaps somewhat OCD/Completionist), I was annoyed.

I actually took the time to write FFG about this, wondering if they had moved on to using the bar code stuff in its place. Today, I heard back from them. Here is their response:

Thank you for contacting Fantasy Flight Games. The status of your request is detailed below. If you have any questions or believe you have received this email in error, please contact [email protected] for assistance.

Current request status: On Hold

Note: There is a misprinting in the X-Wing Ghost causing it to not have a proof of purchase anywhere on or in the product. This request will be placed on hold until we get our replacement parts (Rulebook) and then it will be sent out to you at no cost. Thank you!

So it would appear from the response that the POP was suppose to be somewhere on the Rulebook itself for the Ghost. At least they are correcting it, and sending it to me. After I receive it, I hopefully will no longer "twitch" every time I look at the Ghost. :P :D

Wow!!!

So when I finally get around to buying a Ghost, and have to put all the mission tokens and special non-standard-game cardboard bits in a ziplock bag, I won't have a PoP insert to include to remind me which set of missions the bag goes with.

OCD grrrrrrrr....

hmm that explains why I couldn't find one for my request for new peg and stand that would stay together.

HAH! I use them exactly the same way... so I can quickly locate the set of tokens that goes with a certain mission. And yes, that is exactly what will happen to you. And it may induce a case of tourettes.

Is there really a reason to keep the POP token?

I suppose in theory to "prove" that you actually purchased an item for which you ask FFG to replace some item due to defect, etc.

That actually makes sense as a reason to be annoyed at the lack of POP. I've seen a ton of people complain about it being missing and was wondering why it was such a big deal. I generally save my POPs nowadays just in case I ever need them for some reason, but didn't save the ones from my earlier purchases and have never really cared one way or the other.

So in order to get a replacement piece (i.e. rulebook) you'll need to show Proof of Purchase of some kind, even though the the PoP will be in the replacement rulebook itself.... yeah i got a bad feeling about this.

Well, to be fair, I have submitted a number of requests to FFG over the years, across multiple game environments including X-Wing, and have never been asked for a POP. In some cases, I sent pictures of the items in question, in some I just sent an e-mail.

In all cases, FFG's great support has always provided me whatever I needed.

You do not need the POP to get replacment parts.

I recently requested a movement dial and they happily replyed saying a new one is enroute.

FFG customer service rocks!

^^^ This exactly. ^^^

You could actually but they may not request it.

It is for the warranty and could be requested at anytime during the process.

After seeing this thread I submitted a ticket requesting the proof of purchases. I just got a final response on it.:

Current request status: Closed
Note: UPDATE: There is a misprinting in the X-Wing Ghost causing it to not have a proof of purchase anywhere on or in the product and is a non serviceable issue being that the proof of purchase doesn’t affect game play.
Thank you for your understanding.

I guess the ghost is a misprint. Nobody can play with it until it gets fixed.

It's like your Ghost isn't even really there.... Spooky.

You emailed them over pop?

I've had many things replaced through them without ever needing one

I just throw them out now with the rest of the trash

If that annoys you, all I can say is first world problems at it's finest

Here is what Fantasy Flight sent me today:

Status for this item: Closed

Status details: Thank you for your request. Do not worry you are correct, there is no proof of purchase in the X-Wing Ghost expansion. Thank you.

Extra mission bits in one of the numerous baggies and a sharpie. So far all the baggies fit in a core set box with room for all instructions and mission books.

Indeed. Despite previously telling me that they would correct the issue and send me fixes (see post #1 above), I received the same e-mail myself today.

I guess after all of us brought this to their attention, they must have decided it may cost too much to address the issue. Thus they come up with the statement that since it doesn't affect game play, it isn't a serviceable item. :P :D

Did other wave 8 ships have them?

I don't know as I just throw them out now

But you don't need the proof of purchase anyway

I've dealt with their customer support 2-3 times. Once over replacing dial that I asked if I could just buy it since I lost mind at the store one time ( which they sent everything that comes in the baggie, such as upgrade cards, and the cardboard punch Out, I was surprised, and thought that was pretty cool of them )

They also sent me a replacement ship for one that the peg fell out and I could not find it

They also sent my buddy a new firespray after when he opened it the gun fell off as he took it out

In all of these cases they did not require PoP.

Just asked for pictures

Truly best customer service I ever seen.

Don't really see why someone can be so bothered by it.

I was holding out hope that someday they'd have an offer you could trade in POPs for some cool X-Wing trinket. But, I guess that isn't going to happen now, if they're not even bothering to include them any more. :{

It's a good thing P.O.P. was not required for "proof of legality" in tournaments. Else there would be a huge amount of challenges being made this coming Worlds tournament.

They are producing an app for Descent using proof of purchases to activate each expansion. Might be interesting if they do something in the future with x wing similar. I keep all my proof of purchases just in case.

FFG did not request proof of purchase number when they sent me new Ghost peg.

I just spent like $300 or so buying the ENTIRE Descent game and expansions because of their new app that will allow cooperative play. Going to play with my sons. I might add I bought all online thanks for helping our FLGS asmodee lol!

Anyways hope they do the same for imperial assault and some sort of apps could be developed for x wing armada that do cool things with proof of purchase for each ship/expansion.
