Dual VCX

By Red Castle, in X-Wing Squad Lists

Just got this idea and I wonder how it would fare:

Lothal Rebel and Chopper

Both equiped with Fire-Control System, Autoblaster turret, Gunner, Intelligent Agent, Engine Upgrade.

On paper, it certainly looks like it could hold his ground. Both having IA and Boost should make them good blockers, Add Autoblaster turrets to handle aces, FCS with Gunner to give some reliable long range firepower...

Worth a try?

Every squadron is worth a try or two or three (tinkering with the setup between attempts to fine-tune to your liking).

Myself, I ventured down a similar dual VCX path, but my approach relies on a high risk/high reward setup that fits my play style with the ship(s). For reference:

- Kanan Jarrus (Recon Specialist, Weapons Engineer, Guidance Chips, Fire-Control System, Ghost, Extra Munitions, Proton Torpedoes)...52-points

- "Chopper" (Han Solo, Hera Syndulla, Guidance Chips, Fire-Control System, Extra Munitions, Proton Torpedoes)...48-points.

I strongly encourage you to fly your creation to see if it performs up to your liking and tweak the pieces that don't meet your desires. It's a fun ship to fly, but takes some skill to fly it the way you require it for your needs. Good luck in your battles.

I might change one Intel agent to Hera. Give you real flexibility.

^Agreed.

Hera crew is both a thematic and perfect upgrade to the Ghost. To be able to 1-turn consistently to keep things in arc, or 5K twice... It's what makes the VCX-100 dangerous. Try swapping out an Intel Agent for Hera one game and see how you like it!

At least 1 should have Han,Hera,FCS, Autoblaster Turret

Flavour the other as desired.

Currently thinking about an asymetric build, I'll get to it after work.

I already tried it with Han, Hera, FCS and Autoblaster, I know it is efficient.

Reason I posted it is because I realised that you could do a symetrical build with the VCX a la dual IG that sit perfectly at 100pts. Then I went to work and continue to think about it and the possibility of an asymetrical build.

Version 2:

Chopper with FCS, ABT, Extra Munitions, Ion Bombs, Sabine Wren, Leebo, Ion Projector

Lothal Rebel with FCS, ABT, Hera, Gunner, Engine Upgrade

No Intelligent Agent to help the blocking game though.

As for practicing before playing, no time. Tournament is sunday and I can't play until then. So I gotta go with my instincts!... just as usual.

Don't think you need IA on the big guy

The movement with boost is so huge that you'll rarely if ever get to use it in conjunction with IA. It's more for large base brolls than boosts

Now pilot Hera or jettisoning the phantom is another story

I agree with that. If I take IA, it's actually to scout for the other VCX. So it's either IA on both or on neither.

Version 3:

Chopper with FCS, ABT, Extra Munitions, Ion Bombs, Sabine Wren, Leebo, Ion Projector

Lothal Rebel with FCS, ABT, Extra Munitions, Proton Torpedoes, Weapon Engineer, Hera Syndulla, Guidance Chips

Version 4:

Rebel Operative with TLT

100pts

A friend has run, with some success, 2 Lothal Rebels with Tactical Jammers and Biggs tricked out to increase his survivabily. Biggs usually didn't live log, but not before letting the two VCXs get off a couple of close ranged volleys. Usually by then, his opponent either had used munitions, and/or had taken a chunk of damage. Took some effort to work the maneuvers to keep Biggs in range, but protected.

How about

Lothal Rebel with AC and ABT

Lothal Rebel with AC and ABT

Prototype + Procket or Green+Refit+PTL

I like the look of the list, but I don't think I could justify that amount of money for two VCX's.

I love the model tbh, even though it gets a lot of hate from my local group.

It gets hate because it is a strong ship that takes a while to bring down, all the while wrecking your opponent. Most of these types of ships are hated. Embrace the power, don't hate it - lol.

Well, that's what friends are for. I borrowed the second one.

It was a lot of fun, I finished the day at 2-2. It was great against arc-dodger, but failed against high damage list.

Lost against Fat Han+Jake (only 2 hull left on Han)

Won against 2 IG

Lost against triple scout

Won against Dengar and 2 TLT Y-Wing.

Finished 8 out of 18. Not my best performance, but it was a lot of fun! Enough to make me actually consider buying a second VCX.
