So we know what Systems officer does now

By MrMaggles, in X-Wing

The target lock action allows a ship to acquire a target lock. Acquiring a TL is limited to range 1-3 unless otherwise specified, such as with LRS or st-321.

Systems officer allows a friendly ship to acquire a TL, so the friendly ship has to be within range 1-3 of the enemy target. It says nothing about the ship carrying systems officer needing to be in range of the enemy ship, only that it has to be close to the friendly ship that is acquiring the lock.

Alright, that makes sense.

Though that makes this a really disappointing upgrade. Not one I'll be using.

Thread Tracers also allows you to ignore range, as it says you acquire a TL on the defender. You just need to be within range 1-2 of the attacker.

I wish it worked that way, but it doesn't.

If Thread Tracers had the mechanic of allowing the Tracer shooter to hand out blue TL tokens, then yes, the ultimate effect would be as you described. But ships gaining the advantage of being near the Tracer shooter still have to meet the requirements of being able to obtain TLs on their own.

Can you explain your reasoning here or point to official confirmation as the card reads exactly as it here's gave described to me. ie :The ship firing tracers needs to be in range 1-3 of target but the ships receiving free target locks don't they just need to be bear their attacking ally.

It doesn't say that those ships recieve a target lock on the defender. It says that they may acquire a target lock. The rules reference describes what acquiring a target lock entails.

PS 10 Imperial Boba Fett, Missile of your choice, Systems Officer ~46 points

Redline, ordnance of choice

Seinar Test Pilot as blocker

Looks like Fett should have the Slave 1 Title and LRS so that he can take a TL for his missile the first round of the game. Those two upgrades seem like an auto-include on any Firespray that doesn't have a K-4 Security Droid or another modification.

Nomrally, yes, but at PS10, getting a TL shouldn't be hard, and getting a free crit with Chips is sweet.

That makes sense. It looked like you were leaving the modification slot empty.

Also, for your consideration. You can now run Generic Interceptors that can evade or post move maneuver for their action and be buffed by a Fleet or Systems officer.

Indeed. Advanced Sensors, Fleet Officer, Systems Officer is definitely not palpatine, but handing out two focus tokens and a target lock is no slouch either. Especially with TIE advanced prototypes who then get free evades off the target locks....

Because the rules for 'acquire a target lock' include checking range. You can try to acquire a target lock and fail.

Has anyone noticed the possibility of giving PTL inquisitor an action before his dial? You set a green on him and on the SysOff's ship, you execute the SysOff's green, giving Inq a TL, which gives him an Evade action, which he can PTL off to do an action from his dial and take a stress. Then he manoeuvres clearing his stress, and getting a fourth (or fifth if the SysOff also has a Fleet Officer too) action for 0 stress on his ship.

Seems like a strong combo, but I'm not sure what to do with the remaining 47 points (or 48 if you drop the TIEMk2 on the bombershuttle). It's an awkward amount for Imperials, slightly too much for any but the moast heavily tooled ace (but Gunner/Jammer/VI/ACD Whisper fits, and the SysOff can potentially feed her locks to keep her accuracy up), but slightly too little for two more pocket aces.

It's tough; I want this list to work, and the System/Fleet Bomber/Inq combo should work amazingly well, but what to fit into the spare points is so tough.

the SysOff can potentially feed her locks to keep her accuracy up,

The problem is one of manoeuvre. Pairing Whisper up with an Engine Upgrade Darth Vader on a range 1-2 'leash' to use decoy is pretty easy. Fixing her to range 1 of a shuttle is a lot more awkward.

The shuttle only has to be in range 1 at the end of its move, though, is the thing.

So, as long as you can put them together with one of the shuttle's 9 (with TIEMk2) greens, she can get the lock.

Heck, you can bump into her with the shuttle and she gets the lock.

That's 26 points of pure support which could've been 26 points of Omega L

And Omega Leader would allow your Bombers deliver ordnance more accurately how? Apples and Oranges.

a great question

in fact, how does jonus allow you to deliver your ordnance more accurately when you already get TLs and re-rolls from LRS and homing missiles respectively?

apples and oranges nothing, 26 points of pure support is simply overcompensating

and if someone brings up palp shuttle again without realizing how much ass that ship kicks...

You are forgetting about ordnance that requires you to spend your Target Lock just to fire them without any internal re-roll mechanic (Flechette Torps, Plasma Torps, Proton Torps, Ion Torps, Cluster Missiles, Assault Missiles, etc...). Then you have no re-rolls. Jonus is there to give you a ghetto Target Lock.

Bomber takes Target Lock as Action. Fleet Officer gives Focus token. Bomber spends Target Lock to fire Assault Missiles (or any myriad of ordnance that requires you to spend your Target Lock) at target. Jonus lets Bomber re-roll up to 2 Attack Dice (as the Bomber no longer has a Target Lock). Spend Focus to flip Eyes to Hits. Use Guidance Chips to change a remaining Blank to a Hit.

I stand by my original statement.

I'm thinking of trying this build with S/O:

Pew Pew Pew (100)

Captain Jonus (27) - TIE Bomber

Adaptability (0), TIE Shuttle (0), Fleet Officer (3), Systems Officer (2)

Major Rhymer (39) - TIE Bomber

Ruthlessness (3), Adv. Homing Missiles (3), Assault Missiles (5), Extra Munitions (2), Guidance Chips (0)

Darth Vader (34) - TIE Advanced

Veteran Instincts (1), TIE/x1 (0), Stealth Device (3), Advanced Targeting Computer (5)

Jonus close to Rhymer for Pew Pew shinanigans with Vader support :D
