Easy-peasey, pudding and pie

By Baaa, in X-Wing

For those of you unused to colliquial British sayings, easy-peasy, pudding and pie means something is extremely simple.

So here's my easy-peasy moment.

Scrap Elimination Rounds and play tournaments on a purely Swiss basis.

There is nothing in the tournament rules stating that a cut to the top 8 or 4 etc. is mandatory and for me playing a Swiss only tournament would have several benefits.

1. ID's would be a rarity. Even if you made it to the top table in the last round and both you and your opponent were on the same points, one of you would have to win, taking a draw and sharing points isn't going to resolve that.

2. People further down the pecking order get more game time instead of having to go home after 4, 5 or 6 six games.

3. It can easily be adjusted to reflect the number of attendees.

4. You're always going to be playing against someone who is around the same skill level (as decided by current point total) as yourself, so you have a chance of winning.

I'm pretty certain that this has been brought up before, but given that X-Wing is at heart a do or die game, I feel that it is a way to do away with the ambiguity that has recently been introduced, and will force people to play.

As always, thoughts, comments and criticisms, more than welcome and appreciated.

So where's breakfast?

Pudding and pie sounds lovely for breakfast

Bacon?

Bacon?

This must be a pretty poor topic if it's getting breakfasted after one post.

I could handle "piss off Baaa", but bacon this early has just totally destroyed my self-confidence to the level that I'm going to watch Pixels.

I like the cut. 6 games is really pushing it in a crowded store of overcompetitive people.

Never going to a major tournament. So guess my opinion is pointless.

I thought the tournament rules specifed you have to use rhe basic or advanced structure with a cut or a cutom defined by FFG.

I could dig this. I saw another proposal thread I liked better but this is better than the system currently in place in my opinion.

Well then, have a butcher's hook at her raspberry ripples!

An opinion is never pointless.

Not as far as I can see, page 5 sets out the types of rounds that are applicable. I can't see anything that says there must be X Swiss followed by Cut.

I might be wrong, and lets face it, it wouldn't be the first time.

Piss taking aside, what's up with this suggestion?

Are you all too worried about being able to put "Top 8 at Pointless Tournament" in your sigs; or is it just a really bad idea, and why?

It would have the practical effect of making tournaments single elimination. One loss and you'd have no choice of making first place. Whether you think that's good or not is another debate.

Should I? Is that something that I should want?

Also, never yell at a barking dog. It'll just be like, "GREAT NOW WE'RE BOTH BARKING!"

So currently,

We play 3, 5 or whatever rounds of Swiss and the cut is decided on rankings at that point. How does losing your first game decide your full tournament ranking?

Got it.

Can't put this in your sig -

Tournament Record: 31-10 (1st x1; top 2 x3; top 4 x3; top 8 x1)

No probs.

2. People further down the pecking order get more game time instead of having to go home after 4, 5 or 6 six games.

But this is what means I can pretend that my terrible flying is a choice!

Welcome to the world of mediocre X-Wing players (which I inhabit).

You pay your money, why shouldn't you get the full bhoona?

You mediocre bastards with your...I don't know..., can you even be casually elitist? In any case, I don't think I've reached mediocrity, yet. I think I'm still a little below par.

Top of page 6 says you must use one of the 3 structures. Either 2 Swiss or a defined custom.

What the (sweary word)?

There's a page 6?

Who snuck that in?

Ok, new proposal, get rid of page 6 and bring in Swiss only tournaments.
