Two Decks to Rule them All: Nightmare Edition (3-player)

By Seastan, in Strategy and deck-building

Those familiar with my other thread, One Deck to Rule them All: Nightmare Edition , almost 1 year old now, have seen how Boromir can take on all the quests. Now we kick it up a notch, and build two decks entirely focused on him. Together the decks have risen above just beating any quest in nightmare mode. You can beat any quest in nightmare mode, while playing as if there were actually 3 players in the game . That means revealing 3 cards every round, and treating X as 3. Boromir becomes so strong that he effectively counts as a whole extra deck. And that's just for the very difficult quests like Carn Dum or Battle of the Five Armies. For some standard quests these two decks could probably handle 4 player mode.

There is an extensive writeup of the decks on RingsDB with strategy details. Here's the link:

I've also published a video of this pair of decks playing against Battle of Carn Dum in "3-player mode" so that you can see it in action: Link

Enjoy! Let me know what you think!

Any reason in particular you chose Eowyn and 3x song of wisdom rather than Galadriel with Nenya?

I've been playing what I call "super Boromir" which is very similar to your solo deck. One of the things that is key to that deck is Galadriel's flexibility, so its curious that she is not in the two handed version.

Just insane :D

I thought about putting Galadriel as a sideboard hero. The problem is she's kind of slow, and her ability of allies not needing to exhaust is useless here.

Without her the decks would just quest for 5 total the first turn, which could be devastating. Missing the quest by 6 (Eowyn 4+2) the first turn could mean an extra 6 raise for each player, or 12 less uses of Boromir. And she also helps card draw with her discard and Elven-light. That being said, the decks would still be insanely overpowered if you swapped her out.

Also, Nenya doesn't help you play Brand on Boromir :D

Just play Brand on Galadriel. The Wombo Combo.

Just play Brand on Galadriel. The Wombo Combo.

Galadriel cannot defend.

Also can Boromir have the Brand? Brand has to go on a character with a printed lore icon right? so song of wisdom doesnt change that.

Brand only needs a Lore icon, so Song of Wisdom works just fine.

I guess I should have put a /s tag after that...

A Burning Brand only has to be played on a Lore character. It does not say it has to have the printed Lore resource icon, so Song of Wisdom does allow you to attach A Burning Brand.

Has anyone given this a try? How did it go?

I find two-handed games can take a lot more time to play. For my Solo Boromir deck, I actually had the time to go through every single quest to make sure it could win, but didn't have the time to do it in this case, so I am curious as to any weak points it may have.
