Suggested Improvements - Nera Dantels, Poe Dameron and Red Ace

By XMasamuneRebornX, in X-Wing Squad Lists

Does anyone have suggested improvements to this list? I'm a relatively new player without much experience.

Nera Dantels (26)

Proton Torpedoes (4)

Proton Torpedoes (4)

Red Ace (29)

R2-D2 (4)

Integrated Astromech (0) - Not sure if this is actually allowed, confused by whether X-Wing only extends to T-70s.

Poe Dameron (31)

BB-8 (2)

Maybe I've got too many aces at the expense of upgrades? Opinions?

If you are working with a limited card pool, this should be decent. If you have them, though, you can swap a torpedo for extra munitions to save two points, giving you room for an EPT on Poe. Also, guidance chips is free and really helps those torpedoes hit home.

On Nera Dantels you can put Extra Munition and save 2 points and then put Deadeye on so you can fire you Torpedos with and Focus or put fire control system on for the 2 points to get target locks when you attack

You could do this:

Poe Dameron: (31)

BB-8 (2)

Adaptability (0) for +1 to PS 9

Integrated Astromech (0) yes it works on the T-70 X-wing :-)

Ship Points : (33)

Red Ace (29)

R2-D2 (4)

Comm Relay (3) to keep the evade if you du not use it

Integrated Astromech (0)

Ship Points : (36)

Nera Dantels: (26)

Plasma Torpedo (3) takes off an extra shield

Extra munition (2) gives an xtra Torpedo for 2 points

Guidance chip (0)

Ship Points: (31)

100 Points

...If you have the cards that is :-)

This might be my greatest frustration with this game. As much as I like it and enjoy playing, it's very difficult to solicit ideas for lists because of the card situation. Sadly, it would seem that the market on ebay and elsewhere for buying just cards seems to have dried up at the moment. So the only way to get the cards that everyone thinks are necessary for a particular build is to buy this or that expansion pack. Perhaps it wouldn't be too bad, except that several of those Really Good Cards are stashed away in the boxes with Epic ships and I just don't have that kind of money to throw at a game.

It would be fun to do a local tournament at some point, but that's very intimidating given what a small collection I have. Heck, it's getting to the point where I don't even want to play at the FLGS X-wing nights because every time I show up, I get a game with The Guy who has multiples of everything and an encyclopedic knowledge of the game and kicks the snot out of me (even when I use proxy cards for some things, which feels a bit like cheating).

I think I'm done now. Thanks for letting me rant for a moment or two. You may go now. :P

How about this little Gemmer of a build - lol.

Nera Dantels (26)
Deadeye (1)
Fire-Control System (2)
Plasma Torpedoes (3)
Extra Munitions (2)
Guidance Chips (0)

Poe Dameron (31)

R2-D2 (4)
Autothrusters (2)

Gemmer Sojan (22)

Total: 99

Hang in there Snardo. If your opponents are happy with lending you cards or allowing you to proxy, then you have access to the same thing(s) as everybody else, except maybe ships. Every aspect of this game, from list building, to setting up the board, to flying has its own learning curve. As a fellow new player, I feel your frustration but I have faith that as I improve as a player my level of enjoyment will also improve.

Not all lists are created equal, but neither was the Rebel Alliance. Take pride in a "run what ya brung" attitude and have fun beating opponents with your "inferior" lists.

@ Snardo - you speak for many who get overwhelmed. I wish there was an official FFG card singles store. But, until then, there are two paths ahead. One, use proxy cards / models that you compose yourself or borrow. Two, invest in the actual product, and just admit that you're spending a lot of money on a miniatures game. Veteran mini gamers are used to the cost. Really, step two is only when you're at a tournament competitive level, and gunning for placing in the top. We nearly all got into this game to have some imaginative fun. I think even FFG would be sorry if you didn't have fun - all becuase you could not buy everything. in my case, I tend to be a collector, but, I am lucky right now that I have a little fun money to do it with. Another point that should be made is that when we compare what we want / have to the interweb meta "perfect" list, it always leaves us wanting more, or generally unhappy. So, I suggest taking a break from trying to perfect the list, and just enjoy the game. Play what you have or can come up with and learn from there. Please do this because I need some opponents who are enjoying the game, not taking it apart.

Sadly I don't have the cards mentioned. :(

Seems I'm not the only one struggling with a limited card pool.
