Deathrain with Advanced Sensors, EI

By Jarval, in X-Wing

So, while I'm pretty sure it's not the best way of spending approximately 40 points, this Deathrain build is something I keep pondering.

"Deathrain" (26)
Advanced Sensors (3)
Extra Munitions (2)
Proximity Mines (3)
Conner Net (4)
Experimental Interface (3)
Total: 41
Drop mines before or after you move, have the ability to boost into range and drop a mine in an ace's face, or just have an extra action for attack or defence. There's not a huge amount of green on the Punisher's dial, so you'd not want to use EI more often than necessary (although you can potentially action, EI to drop a mine, and do a green to clear that stress), but it seems like the combo of AS and EI gives Deathrain a lot of options.
The one thing I'm not sure on is the timing of stress from EI, and if that prevents the free barrel roll Deathrain gets after dropping a bomb. Does the barrel roll come before the EI stress is applied, or after?

41pts for a Punisher,

You decide, see nested actions.

You don't decide, the stress definitely happens after, that's how nested actions work.

That's a LOT of points. A LOT of points, especially for a ship with minimal attack value.

My inclination for Deathrain right now is Electronic Baffles. Gives you a lot more places you can drop bombs unexpectedly, and has the benefit of being a bunch cheaper than EI/AS. Add LRS and a torpedo for some meaningful offense too.

Maybe I'm forgetting an important part of how the card works, but how does Electronic Baffle give you more options to drop a bomb with Deathrain?

I like FGDs Deathrain better, I think thats close to the optimal build. Its light on points and has some (limited) primary attack value. The build is Deathrain with Accuracy Corrector, EM, Conner Net and Seismic Charges. Totals up for 37 points and has some real potential in a world full of Palpaces. He has some nice pictures of the Store Championship he won that highlight the strengths of the build I will see if I can find the thread.

Edit: There it is (I think) https://community.fantasyflightgames.com/topic/204770-because-we-dont-see-enough-bombs-in-this-game-pic-heavy/?hl=+ficklegreendice%20+deathrain

Because you can drop Action: bombs after your red moves, so k-turns and 2-turns let you pop Conners. Costs a damage to drop the stress, but being able to k turn behind someone and just troll along behind them merrily dropping conner nets on them until they fall off the board (or you run out of conner nets) is hilarious.

Of course! I knew I missed something!

I Connered my best friend off the map once and felt so guilty afterwards, I had to let him win the next game. :-D

Imagine Fett fully fitted, staying in a corner (cornering a Crab-IG) of the map about to get out, with only 2-hard letting out, but filthy crab sensor+bumping into you again and again and blocking it, while using you as trollbait, shooting your other roster from your back.

Yes, I was the crab xD

Oh, agreed, 41 points is almost certainly too much to be spending on a Punisher, but I liked the idea of bombs before or after you moved. :)

TBH, I'm never sure what the right about to spend is - I'm reasonably happy with a 38/39 point Redline loadout, but Redline can do horrific amounts of damage in two turns of shooting and then if he dies after that I'm not too concerned. Getting an effective Deathrain build that doesn't hurt in terms of points cost is a tricky balancing act. That said, the Baffles idea is an interesting one I'm keen to experiment with.

I have yet to use my Tie Punisher...

Having played deathrain, you can have the same effect for 6 points less by simply planning ahead/remembering he can fire nets out the butt too

If you want shenanigans, use seismics. For conners all you really have to do is "joust" up to their face and hairball up the bomb

34 for conners seismics and extra, 37 for ghost/tlt slaying acc corrector

D-rain has by far the easiest time dispensing nets out of any ship in the game (even aslam warden), he doesn't need help doing so

He doesn't need it, but that's not to say he's not able to benefit from it.

What else would you put in his System slot normally?

Acc corrector (originally for tlts, though it did ping some aggressors and a phantom; also because 34 points for a tie fighter offense is laughable)

Maybe scopes if you hate jm5ks

Or nothing
