The A-Wing Ordnance Squad ... a thing?

By surly88, in X-Wing

We played a few games with the 5 A-Wing list that showed up recently and came to this idea:

4x Green Squadron Pilot (19)
Deadeye (1)
Concussion Missiles (4)
Crack Shot (1)
Guidance Chips (0)
A-Wing Test Pilot (0)

Total: 100

Not sure if it's super competitive or not, but the alpha strike is pretty neat actually.

Throwing 4x4 hits on the table and crackshotting your opponents dice can be rather devastating against some lists.

However, once the dust settles, you probably have to face the fact that you're playing 4 naked A's ... especially without Thrusters and only with PS3.

Opinions? ;)

I've run a couple of these guys in one of my lists:

25 Green w/ Deadeye, HomingM, Chips, Test, Adapt.

They did all right, but I wouldn't include them again. The missile shot is as deadly as a U-boat's torpedo, but after that alpha it's essentially a 25pt PS4 Prototype. If you want to spam cheap ordnance I'd go something like this:

24 Airen w/ Adapt, HomingM, Chips.
18 Tala w/ HomingM, Chips.

It's cheaper, and can get off it's missiles fairly reliably. Also Airen's ability is useful even after the alpha.

As long as Chardaan refit is out A-wings will never really be something with missiles unless in the future there comes an upgrade or effect that turns A-wing discards missile to removed opponent ship even if it is at full HP.

A-Wings have the most utility by having PTL and being somewhat difficult to bring down. But they simply don't put enough damage through, and the Green Squadrons have trouble chasing down / avoiding anything with higher PS.

You stole my list :-)

I love them but often I run 2 with Esege so you can take an evade and let Esege give you the focus to fire your torps. you can also go for predator instead of crack shot, making the GSPs a little more deadly in the long game.

I feel that the A-wing does very well after releasing its payload, considering that it can boost into range one. Right now I run Jake and Tycho with PRockets because they are so good at getting into Range one and having all of the dice modification needed to get five hits.

A-wings have already won a regional. Not sure the list though.

AKA

Tycho: PTL; Char; AT; TestP; Wired - 30

Jake: PTL; Prockets; AT; VI - 33

Warden: EM; Conner Net x2; Adv Slam; Sabine

2 Hard to hit A's and one with prockets.

Warden with 4 conner nets and sabine to keep aces sweating etc

You can add Juke instead of either and split the cost difference if they are using Esege's Focus tokens. ;)

Or stick with crackshot and just TL.

I tried running 4 greenies with

- Deadeye

- Test Pilot

- Rage

- Cluster Missiles

They slaughtered a Bossk with only 2 missiles and 1 Range 1 primary and managed to kill Kath afterwards as well. It's wonderful to be able to reroll all dice in every cluster shot.

4x Green Squadron Pilot (19)
Wingman (2)

Proton Rockets(3)
Rage(1)
Guidance Chips (0)
A-Wing Test Pilot (0)

Go big or go home.
