X-Wing Tier List Project: X-Wings

I like to fly Porkins + Rage + R5-D8 + IA (30).

I use Rage whenever I'm at range 1. I will use his pilot ability to remove 0, 1, or 2 of the stress tokens depending on the positions and bearings of the ships on the board.

Wes is gonna go up in the world with U boats around. A lot.

But the question has to be why did he not go up in the world when Phantoms and other Aces were the meta....Any ships that depend on tokens will find it tough against Wes alongside other Rebel Aces. Having VI on him is normally a must.

because x-wings are depressingly frail

Rage is an interesting proposition if you're willing to really gamble. For 30 points I'd take my SoT build but Rage is a passable choice of 1pt EPT for the slimmer 28pt build.

I like your list. Just out of curiosity, if hobbie had a native EPT how much do you think that would raise him up?

Not much, honestly. I think Hobbie's flaw is his pilot ability, same with porkins. Stress-based abilities just aren't good on X-Wings, because X-Wings can't really use PTL because of only having 2 actions, and the only red maneuver they have is their K-Turn. Having an EPT would help, but i doubt it would change much.
If he had an ept you could put stay on target on him, that would generate red maneuvers for targeting astromech and give him some flexibility.

He would be pretty brutal against lower PS ships like this, sadly its not to be.

When he maneuvers, he can:

  • Not activate SoT, behave as normal.
  • Activate SoT, gain a target lock from Targeting Astro, gain a stress .
  • Activate SoT, change bearing , gain a target lock from Targeting Astro, gain a stress .
  • Activate SoT, gain a target lock from Targeting Astro, 3/8s chance of damage , take focus .
  • Activate SoT, change bearing , gain a target lock from Targeting Astro, 3/8s chance of damage , take focus .

How do you activate SoT without changing the bearing?

I've placed up around the tops of tournaments with Porkins before. If you think he's an F, you're using him wrong. Being able to pop a K-Turn, then PTL... You'll murder folks. Porkins has a pseudo white K-Turn and regen ability. Not my fault so many people have overlooked the potency of this.

You 'change' the dial to the same maneuver

Is that legal?

Blue Five has summed the problem with methodology here. Historical data is a popularity contest and undily influenced by so callwd netlisting. Also doesn't cope well with meta shifts.

Wes is a perfect example. He is easily a B, with U-boats maybe pushing A due to his utility against all lists.

Here though we have a methodology that arbitrarily says "nope you % is too low, youust be garbage".

It's a shame to have hamstrung what otherwise is an interesting read and has had obvious effort pit in. I think you guys should have the courage to step out from the % where there is a strong case. Otherwise you may as well just post the listjuggler % and go home.

Then it would just be his arbitrary opinions in a sea of everyone else's arbitrary opinions. Trying to explain hard data is more unique then just more theorycrafting with only biased anecdotal evidence for support, of which there is no shortage of here and elsewhere.

I completely agree that Wes is a better Pilot in this meta than Wedge, but Wedge is more readily available to more players coming in the cheap expansion pack instead of the stupid epic cash grab, and his ability and Pilot skill are more easily appreciated by less nuanced players, hence why he sees so much more tournament play.

So secret that even * I * do not know what they are going to be until I play them!

OPSEC is very important. ;)
