Should I get a second TAP (TIE Adv. Prototype)?

By Marinealver, in X-Wing

Just to let you know still being in school means I have a rather restrictive budget. Yet I am still able to get 1 of each X-wing expansion pack out there. However I still have to have a purchasing plan which unfortunately leaves out Armada, other games, and that plan is one of each but no more than two.

So with some ships (like A-wing and TIE FIghter)and sets (like the classic Core and Imperial Aces) it made sense to double up on (although the core and aces has seem to fall out). I know one scum ship I plan on doubling on and that is the Kihrax (AKA Klingon). Since the last rebel release was two ships in one pack I don't think I need to double up on anything on the rebel side yet. But for Imperials I am a little unsure at what to do for the TAP. At first I thought it makes a good character model but the whole 15 points fast ship and the A-wing stats makes me wonder if I should treat it like an A-wing and get another one based on the sole reason it is a small low squadron point cost ship much like the Scyk and TIE Bomber. However looking at it and current top meta of the Imperial lists it might be better as another option for Soontir's wing-man in a palpmobile build.

So what do you think. Are there any good builds that require two TAPs, or is it just better as another single name entry on the "Pick two" list of today's imperial builds?

I'm fine with only one right now. And I own five kihraxs and eight Tie fighters etc. Maybe it will grow on me?

Please buy 20. It helps my stock portfolio.

Yeah, pick up another! I'm picking up another pair lol!

lol, im thinking about it. but ugh the large ships this wave are... overpowered...?

But that would mean no diversification to you and him...

I have three of them already...

I really can't think of *any* reason to buy a second Kihxztvfsdyfqwieyzaxaazx. And I've got two, but I'm a crazy completionist.

The *TAP*, on the other hand....oh, man, I *love* flying Rudor and the Inquisitor next to each other...*presuming* you've got two TIE/fo expansions (not the core set, the expansion) to go with them. They SCREAM for the 'Juke' EPT with their title, and that only comes with the one retail kit at the moment.

Outside of that, I'd say get no more copies of the TAP than you have copies of 'Juke' - such a natural fit, cannot imagine one without the other.

2 khiraxzzz here. Only buy 2 if you will fly them. Vassal is your friend here. For example... I was on the cusp of buying 2 more K wings for about a week. 5 games on vassal.... I'm not buying anymore K wings.

Yes. I have five. They're in a strange spot where 1/2 are really good. 3/4, not so much. 5 is back to being really good again.

Moreover, they're amazingly fun to fly. For giggles, I stuck Mk2 Engines on them and laughed at how much green is on the dial.

I have been considering a couple of lists with more than one, but in the end I'm not sure I'll bother. If you want just the really good bits, you only want one, for The Inquisitor who is awesome.

Yes, buy another. Just paint at least one of the pasty white things

I'd get a 2nd TAP both named pilots are decent and as a filler ship they are more durable than you'd think thanks to AT and the title.

Decent proton rockets carriers! A 2nd doubles the fun and your opponent's angst.

Ive bought 2 as for 18 points (basic, title + tracers) is awesome in a swarm or in a TAP + Bomber list

Hmmm......it is a tough call if you are trying hard to be frugal. I also know it's hard to go to a crack den and ask the crackheads if you should buy crack or not. So, I won't just say "yes" and really consider it.

If you are only thinking of standard meta builds, one could easily be enough. The Inquisitor is a good card and his ability bumps his shots up. He's a solid choice. I don't think there will be too many lists that are super competitive in the sense that it's one of the main lists that people take (aka a netlist). If you are only worried about the top type lists and what most will take, then I don't think you need it.

One minor point, though.....it does have Guidance Chip. If you are wanting to get more, it's not a bad ship to buy a 2nd one of for GC.

Can you make an effective and fun list with a 2nd V1? I think you can, but it just might not be the top table at Worlds. I'm sure you can build a list that can win you a tournament at your local store, though.

The V1 title really gives action efficiency to any ship that you take. Even the cheapest generics get a nice boost with that title. You get an offensive boost and a defensive one with one action (and no stress). That's really cool no matter which one you go for. So, no matter which one you grab, it can be effective.

Valen Rudor is not a bad option as he can really move around the board and avoid some shots. I've also heard of people giving him a Proton Rocket and putting him at R2 of the enemy, and grabbing a Focus. Let an enemy fire at you and then Boost as your action to get within R1 to fire your Proton Rocket. Seems pretty fun.

Baron of the Empire has an EPT, which is pretty good. There are a lot of different things you can do with a ship like that. Even make one a cheap ordnance carrier. Moves after a U-boat or TLT and you get a TL and Evade for one action.

Ordnance Carrier is not a bad option for this ship. The double action is good and will help you stay alive. You can also go with Juke on most of these guys to be able to get the TL and reduce their Agility by 1. That can be pretty effective. Throw on GC and even change one of your die rolls. Homing Missile and Juke on someone like Valen Rudor means you can end up with a lot of modifiers for your shot with the Homing Missile. Let's say you have a lower PS target. You move up and grab TL/Evade. Fire first with the TL modification and the Evade to reduce their agility by 1. Move up and grab a Focus, then if someone higher PS shoots at you (and you live), you can grab the TL/Evade to then return fire with a nasty shot. It's almost like Dengar to discourage you from being shot at.

I think there are a lot of clever things you can do with a 2nd TAP V1, but I don't think you have to have two.

Dammit people, now I'm making plans to go buy a second one. Wave 9 is going to destroy my storage solution for sure.

Edit- 5K is good for a blunt instrument list and Kihrkljqwekl's are a good source of CrackShot if you like Black Squad Swarms. (whichido) A little on the nose, that I have five little space ships just so I can get the Crack in the package.

Wave 8 did it again for me. I am carrying around 3 containers for my stuff now! I found a good Plano case that will hold all my Epic and my Large ships, though. I ordered it.....but realized when it came that I didn't freakin' order the right one! I swear, with Amazon Prime, I find myself clicking a little too easily. I managed to sell the wrong sized case to another X-winger that was looking to move beyond storing things in starter boxes, which was a huge win. I now have the cash to buy the proper box that I want and will be able to reduce my boxes down to two.

Oh, and card storage!!!! I've got 3 of those Star Wars boxes they gave out for doing well at tournaments. My pilot cards and now upgrades have expanded too much! I have one box just for my Empire pilots (my primary focus). I have another box for my Rebel and Scum pilots. My third box was for all the little upgrade cards. With all the upgrade cards from Wave 8, I can't fit them all in!!!!!! I need to figure out what to do now. NO....I DO NOT want to get those horrible card sleeves. That would mean that every wave I will have to reorganize them to be in alphabetical order AGAIN. I've done that with other games before. No, thank you.
