Swarm/Aces vs. Dengar,scout, and Z

By Hobbyist, in X-Wing Battle Reports

Got to play at a local store last night after a two week drought. I've been really liking the tie/FO, so on the way, I put this together in my head.

Omega Leader
Juke
Comm relay
Zeta Leader
Wired
Weapons Guidance
Wampa
Academy Pilot
Academy Pilot
Academy pilot

There's only 2 of us when I get there, so we set up, and this won't be super complete,

Dengar
Punishing One
Adaptability
K4 Security droid
Unhinged Astromech
Contracted scout
Proton Torpedoes
Guidance Chips
Extra Munitions
Deadeye
Over clocked R4
4-LOM
Pilot Skill 3 Z-95
Guidance Chips
Cluster Missiles

I thought I was at 100, but I forgot to include tie engine mk. II on Zeta Leader, so I actually had 99, but I won the coin toss, so it didn't matter, I gave him initiative, he made Dengar a 10. The asteroids ended up in a football shaped blob in the middle. I set up academies and Wampa on my right corner in formation. He placed the contracted scout and black sun soldier across from them. I placed Omega and Zeta 2/3rds of the way to my left. He placed Dengar facing my left side of the board.
I blasted 5 straight with the 4 ties, he creeped up with the scout and Z. I turned in towards my other ties with my aces, to join up on the scout eventually. Dengar did the only thing he could do, a hard left.

With my generic TIE force, I bank 3 towards his Scout, ignoring his Z, in the attempt to get at range 1. he banks towards me, and my efforts are partially successful, my second line of TIEs were outside range 1. I also was able to start bringing in the Aces so they'd get some long shots. Both Omega and Zeta plink off a shield or two, Dengar is out of Range (barely), the scout gets 2 damage on an academy with a Proton Torpedo, the Z-95 Whiffs with the cluster missiles, and the academies bring the scout down to 4 hull, I think.
Next turn, I get the block with an academy, who took a hard right so he'd also be facing the Z. I don't remember everything that happens here, but basically I leave the scout up to my generic TIE force, who take him out this turn my aces to dengar. Dengar brings Zeta to 1 hull, and between Zeta and Omega, all of Dengar's shields are gone. Dengars counterattack on Zeta completely misses! Next Round I lose an academy, I block Dengar with Omega. the Generic Ties finish the Z-95, and prepare to engage dengar, who gets the crit where all turns are red. At this point he starts drifting through my Generic TIEs, and a few turns later, he's finished.
Dice luck was definately in my favor. I feel I also had the better opening. and having 6 ships was really helpful, too. A really fun game.

Good write up bud, you rocked me in this game. Not sure if it was my bad flying, bad squad build or poor dice luck....maybe all 3. Regardless you played well and smoked me.

I like writing battle reports, but I usually can't remember enough details to make it a worthwhile read.
