EPTs for the Inquisitor that aren't PTL or VI?

By Biophysical, in X-Wing

PTL with mostly speed one greens is fine with fighters but against big ships I found myself wishing for a green three quite a few times.

And that's the reason why I'm starting to favor TIE MkII instead of Autothrusters on the Inquisitor. As much as you want to stay at range 3 to fully benefit from his ability, there will be time when you'll have to close in and then next turn, have trouble not getting blocked. Having Straight 1-4, all bank and the hard 1 green make the Inquistitor a ship very hard to predict with potencially 3 actions per turn.

Ptl simply necessitates planning a bit ahead

Not ptl necessitates lucky rolling

One can be done reliably, the other cannot

I can see the logic but AT has saved TAP's from the green dice betrayal more than once for me, it's hard not to consider it an autoinclude for me personally.

Given that the inquisitor loves r3 autothrusters feels natural to me. Large bases usually mean kick it 4 straight and rejoin later with that gorgeous hard 1.

That's why I said that I'm ''starting to favor TIE MkII'', because I'm not fully there yet. I still need some more game to judge.

But, with his one more health than a Tie Interceptor, two of them being a shield, I think that the Inquisitor can soak the eventual bad roll without Autothrusters, and Vader is doing alright without it. True that Autothrusters is great and you'll definetly get value out of it, especially against turrets, but I don't think it's the only option. Just like I don't think that PtL is the only option for Interceptors.

It might also have to do with my usual playstyle. I use the Inquistor with Fel and Jax, each of them go toward the opponent from different angles (front, left and right). I try to keep at range 3 for the first engagement and once I know which of my three ship my opponent goes for, I turtle up with him and then bail next turn to come back later while the other two shoot on the flanks. The 1 bank or hard are not fast enough to bail, while a bank 3 is wonderful, especially followed by a boost. I might get me out of range completely instead of being in range 3. Autothrusters or not, not being shot at is still a better defense than changing a blank to an evade.

Juke, you don't HAVE to TL, but when you trail someone it is a godsend as TL then comes naturally.

I think you do have to TL, as Evade isn't natively an action option on TAPs.

Actually you do have to TL to get an Evade token because TAPs don't have native Evade action.

It causes an issue for lower PS TAPs if they have a higher PS opponent who can fly upon them quickly.

Looks like I wasn't clear enough. Apologies.

No, you don't need to TL, yes - you need it to get the Evade, but that's not what I meant.

Due to the Inquisitor's mechanics you are often better off by skirting the main fight, enjoying your free Stealth Device (Range Bonus) and your thrusters; while doing banks and boosts and the occasional 2 straight.

But when you get behind your target, then, you TL, get the Evade, and let your opponent feel the power of your fully operational Battle-Juker.
