Bossk and Tel Trevura: The Intercepter Destroyers

By Caboose2900, in X-Wing Squad Lists

Got a small tournament coming up this weekend, and I'm gonna be running it. Don't think I will play, but if there is an odd number I'll jump in. Been throwing around some list ideas just in case, and I think this is the one I'll go with. If anyone has any input on it that'd be cool. If not, just thought I'd share it anyways.

Bossk (35):

Engine Upgrade (4)

Veteran Instincts (1)

Dengar (3)

4-LOM (1)

Outlaw Tech (2)

(46)

Tel Trevura (30):

Hull Upgrade (3)

Punishing One (12)

Veteran Instincts (1)

K4 Security Droid (3)

Unhinged Astromech (1)

Glittersrim (2)

(52)

98 points total.

The Bossk build looks very close to one that I have been thinking about, except I went with tactician over Outlaw Tech. Having a focus on red moves is great, but I slightly prefer the always-on danger zone of ranges 2 (stress) and 1 (extra die). I think both could work.

Your Tel is offensive (not in the smelly way, but the hitting hard way). This should work, but at the same time doesn't take a huge amount of advantage of his ability. I think it'll work fine, but I'm so tempted by Gonk and R5-P8. If he does damage by staying alive longer, it really works with his ability nicely. Then you don't have to worry about his turret damage so much, and can save the title points for a Z-95 blocker or other upgrades on your two ships.

I think your list is solid, and should do just fine. If you want to smash people, the Punishing One title is really only worth it on Dengar because they had to balance the cost of it with his two attacks, rather than everyone else's one shot.

I've been considering a Bossk similar but with Mercenary Co-pilot for range 3 crits on the initial push in

I was thinking about dropping the title for some munitions, but that kinda goes against what tel does, which is living a long time. She would run out of shots before she died. I tried the gunner bot, but I'm so bad at getting the thing to work...

I wish I could justify not having Dengar on Bossk, because I'd like to try Dengar on his own ship, but he's just soooo good as crew. Bossk is such a terror, and with Outlaw Tech I find myself actually wanting to do red maneuvers more often. But Tactician is definitely good, I've tried it. Really that third slot is up to personal preference.

Bossk is about the only ship I would consider Merc Co-Pilot on. It's pretty nice for the crit, but then again, you are attacking at range 3, which is where you are least likely to get a hit through. Man, what I'd give to put Moralo's ability on Bossk, then Mangler Cannon would be the best 4 points you could spend.

Why not a HLC for 4 dice with one becoming a crit?

That could work too, but then you're spending 9 points for crits at one range. The HLC would still be good though.

Yeah, Dengar crew is just too good. The issue with the Bossk as you have it is really having both Engine Upgrade and Outlaw Tech. If you do the red, you get your focus but the 4 point EU is wasted that turn. If you want to use your Engine, the Outlaw Tech is wasted.

I really think Tel is great, but I'm convinced that the Punishing One title would be 8 or 9 points if Dengar didn't have the chance of using it twice a turn. That means on all the other Jumpmasters it is 3 or 4 points overcosted.

The Outlaw Tech gives you something to do on the turns you need to do a red maneuver on. Although the focus hardly matters most times, what with Dengar's rerolls. I just can't think of another crew I'd rather have though. I never really liked Tactician when I tried him on this build. Idk why, because I know he's good.

And the Punishing One is slightly overcosted, yes, but a 2 damage primary is not gonna cut it with only 2 ships. That's why I like stretching those 12 points out over as much hull as I can, while still using that extra dice to its fullest by being super aggressive.

I guess there isn't a super great crew to put in that third slot on Bossk. Could go Zuckuss, but you'd have to use it sparingly. Could go with Greedo, but it can backfire. Could throw on Boba Fett, but that has anti-synergy with Bossk's ability.

The lack of firepower on a two dice primary is why I am thinking R5-P8 on Tel. He can plink away with his shot at low agility ships, but the droid has a 50% chance of doing damage to anyone that takes a shot at him with no evading or avoiding. And he lives forever, so he will get shot at quite a bit. It makes him a counter-puncher, to use boxing terms. He does his best damage by getting hit, and Tel will stay alive to get hit quite a few times.

Edit: Not trying to convince you to drop the title, just giving an alternative option.

I highly appreciate the back and forth we are having. It's nice to get input on my list. I think I could just swap out the crew and mech I currently have on Tel and still have enough points to keep the title and put gunner bot and GONK on. That way I'm giving people a reason not to shoot me, protecting my expensive title. The only problem then is not having ANY modifications on my dice...

As I am a crazy person, I would drop Engine upgrade on Bossk and throw Zuckuss on. You are getting rerolls with Dengar crew, so it is a modified shot, and you can go wild with making the defender reroll with Zuckuss because you don't really care about stress that much. It gives 5 extra points for Tel on your build. Taking away repositioning on your PS9 is kind of a waste, so it is probably a bad choice.

Let's see, after that swap, you could grab inertial dampeners on Bossk, r5-P8 on Tel, and have 4 points left for other stuff or an initiative bid. If you don't have engine upgrade, manuevering fins isn't terrible for a point.

True. That could be nice. I always like stacking maneuver changers like Maneuvering Fins and Navigator. It's funny to change a 1 bank to a 3 turn. Could have some merit with the high PS as well. Or maybe not.

I think that definitely has some merit. The navigator + fins combo will save your bacon vs swarms for sure.

I prefer Bossk with just

K4

outlaw Tech

HLC

or

K4

Outlaw Tech

Caclulation

Mangler Cannon

If you have the points to throw a EU on him then great, because turning him around is a SOB. But bossk is tanky and deals good damage.

R5-P8 over unhinged. You will not regret it.

I'd say take the 2 extra points and pimp Tel.

Without the bid, VI into PS9 does lose a lot of value, though.

Would you consider Calculation over VI on Bossk, as a tool to push the crits? Other than that, Bossk already looks great.

On Tel, VI into Predator frees both your crew and astro choice for mods. You could go R5-P8 and Gonk, by losing Stim also. Makes Tel a bit more stiff, but also more durable without losing potency.

Lose the Engine and Outlaw Tech and put a Feedback Array and Zuckuss on Bossk. You won't miss the EU as much because FA helps to protect your blind spot (and your other ship is a turret that can watch his 6) and your hits will hurt more with Zuckuss and 4LOM combined. That gives you 3 more points to upgrade Tel with. Or with the 5 points you do what I've done to great success. Add a missile and Guidance Chips to Bossk. GC works well with Bossk's ability plus Zuckuss and 4LOM to make for a mean Alpha Strike.

yar

interceptor destroyers without feedback are just frauds

I'm tempted to do a variation on this list, but run it like so:

Bossk

-VI

-Mangler

-Dengar

-4-lom

-Boba

-Feedback Array

-EU

Tel Trevura

-VI

-Extra Munitions

-Plasma Torp

-K4 Security

-R5P8

-Glitterstim

-HullUpgrade

Though, I am almost tempted to use Gonk over K4... I know lots of people don't like or see value in Gonk, but the few times I have used him it helped me a lot.

I think you go K4 with the unhinged astromech, Gonk with r5-p8

I don't look at this topic for a couple days and it gets lots of responses... Geez. I've been flying this list a lot against triple interceptor lists and Palp Aces lists recently. Still haven't lost to them yet. The only things on the list that I would feel comfortable changing are Outlaw Tech and Glitterstim. Tech doesn't matter most of the time, and Stim has only ever been better than a focus once.

The K4 and Unhinged make the Jumpmaster just about as hard to pin down as Dash. I am considering changing Tel up to Dengar and giving it EU and PTL, just to make it a PS9 Dash that wants Range 1.

Bossk is super threatening as is, maybe a little more with Zuckass over Tech. He popped a Fel in the first round of shooting. It was somewhat lucky on my end, but still. I don't like investing points into his ability. I roll crits enough without any help, especially with 3-4 dice and rerolls.

Woop woop! Second place at the Stele Open! (Sorry for resurrecting this dead post...)

Congrats! What did you settle for after all?

The exact list I posted originally. Faired extremely well. So proud of her.
