First tourney

By UKDanny666, in X-Wing Squad Lists

Hi Fellow Xwingers

I have my first tourney Sunday, i have had success with the following list and was thinking of taking to the tourney. I have two lists but i favour list 1.

Anyone of you kind souls want to offer some council?

List 1

Captain Oicunn - VT-49 Decimator, Expose, Gunner, Emporor Palpatine, Experimental Interfact (62 pts)

Soontir Fel - Tie Interceptor. Push the limit, Royal Guard title, Autothrusters, Stealth Device - (35 pts)

Total 97 with a strong initiative bis

List 2

Darth Vader - Tie Advance, Engine Upgrade, Advanced Targeting Computer, Tie x/1, Predator

Juno Eclipse - Tie Advance, Predator, Tie X1, Advance Targeting Computer

Maarek Stele - Tie Advance, Predator, Tie X1, Advance Targeting Computer

Total 100

I know list 1 would struggle against a swarm, but looking for advice

Regards

Danny

best advice for first event is go with a list you have used and are comfortable with.

regardless of match up best to just play comfortable as otherwise it's a lot of extra stress

Thanks for the advice starrius, I have flown the two lists with success, just at a bind of which one to use really.

I would second the advice to play what you're familiar with - so long as it's a list you will continue with. I'm not against trying something unfamiliar for a tourney simply because after the tourney you will know a lot more about it and can have a really good idea of what it can do. Sort of like forced evolution. The downside is that if you really don't like it you're still stuck with it for the day. But, even that's not the worst.

Now, treating both lists as equals, I think the first list might give you a little more of an advantage. Having a big, hard to knock-out ship can help against your own mistakes and unexpected things from your opponent. But, that's my two-cents. Go with what you feel excited about.

both lists look decent enough to me. they have different strengths that will mean more in different circumstances.

do you have an idea what the local `meta` will be ?

by `meta` people mean...." what is common amongst the competition".

is the tournament going to be made up mostly of local players who tend to prefer a certain build?

will the tournament be a larger event that brings people from far and wide with a more varied range of lists.

will it be a tournament against one other player who demands matches or he will toss kittens down a well but he always plays a y wing list.

of the two, you want to think about what the `expected field of lists` may look like and select which one is stronger against that.

THEN....prepare to be wrong and just do you best anyways.

its all good in the end

Thanks guys think im going to take the decimator interceptor list, will update this with my placing!

Good luck and have fun
