"No War" people vs X wing

By Hexdot, in X-Wing

Also the borders are now closed and we are back to letting helpless people drown and starve at them. We also now work with a repressive almost dictator to deport them back into war zones. The EU deserves that peace Nobel price as much as Obama does. \rant

You don't deal with an enormous refugee crisis and a murderous group of would be conquerors by just accepting the refugees. You deal with it by mobilizing your armies and wipe those reprehensible pieces of excrement from the face of the planet.

You know, the best start would have been to never arm and train those murderous groups, but the weapons manifacturers lobby just has too much of a say in politics.

This is what happens when you don't have a 2nd amendment to protect your first amendment. These countries never had constitutional rights to begin with, the populations just took it for granted that their governments would always act benevolently.

How anyone could live on the east side of the wall and think communism might work baffles me.

(I'm talking about Merkel, and I'm not worried about any "visits." No intimidation tactics here, we love our police and our police love us.)

I think this topic is going way off tracks at this point.

Anyway, if I can bring anything on the original topic, I don't really know what Hexdot is talking about. I know Spain and I have never ever heard of any anti-miniature games, or anti-X-Wing initiatives in Spain, like ever.

Europe's got another problem they need to worry about.

They close their minds and open their borders, when it should be the other way around.

FFS you get police visiting your house for things you put on twitter.

Where did that happen and in what context?

Sorry about that politics stuff, lets get back to where it applies to X-Wing.

We're going to have to start taking in refugees fleeing the refugees pretty soon.

nyuknyuk!

How about those Jumpmasters?! Any good builds for if you only own 1?

Should I throw a single missile boat into my list? I already tried a Tactical Jammer + Gonk build and it didn't last long enough to regen any shields.

Should I just throw in a 37 pointer with the title or does it just get BTFO by TLT Y-wings?

Well, as you.know but perhaps many readers not, mine is a quite diverse country. Quite small, but diverse a lot. The once industrial mighty Bilbao is very different from the cosmopolite Barcelona or the Tourism heavy Malaga. Different people, ways to see life and even quite opposing cultural backgrounds.

So, the prejuices against wargaming are much more obvious in some areas. If you live in Madrid zero problems to obtain your Airsoft licence. Not in Burgos. Or Vitoria. But one hundred klicks to the North... Jejeje.

Well this thread got weird.

I think a single missile boat can work and if you have real guts...Kavil can take the R4/Deadeye combo at a similar price, subbing in for one of the boats. He loses tankiness and crew potential, but gains an undodgable 3 dice attack at range 1. I haven't tried it, but it sounds fun.

I preferred this thread much more when it brought back memories of a certain North Carolinian archaeologist

Cheers

Yes, we are off topic.

In central Spain (Madrid), I never suffer something like that.
I suppose that could be some uneasy mothers when their beloved 12 years son comes home after playing with friends at local club, bragging about the great slaughter that his nazi SS super-soldiers caused.
But, about children playing with space ship doing pew pew... The same level of unrest that will cause two children playing with lightsabers, or talking about Dragon Ball.
Role play games in the other hand... A child talking with his parents about how his Inquisitor should dictate an extermitatus to ensure the complete xenocide of an entire planet...

"Soccer = Violence"

Wait 'til they've seen football.

Wait till you've seen "soccer" hooligans. Iron pipes in open fields, almost medieval stuff.

Football hooligans (that is Soccer to the yanks and canucks) are actually kept around because they make the UK police the best urban riot control police in the world. No. Really. This is actually true.

I'd like to put the videogames make you violent crowd in the same place as radical evangelists/ISIS/most of the worlds nuclear arsenal/the anti vaxxer crowd/britain first on an asteroid, flying into the sun with me holding the detonator to said nukes.

I fear the (completely bloodless due to total annihilation) explosion would only prove their point however.

Maybe one day they'll make a Star Wars euro-game, then the continental players can sit there being all passive-aggressive to each other, as seems to be their wont.

We can call it "So this is how liberty dies" and it'll be a Republic Senate tabletop game.

I always saw that line as a jab at the Republican party policies of the time.

Oh, 100% agreed.

If Ernst Friedrich were revived today, I do not think he'd be very happy about X-Wing or other war based toys.

He published a book in the 20's full of pictures of the horrors of World War 1, including many pages of people who were mangled by the war in 4 different languages. I'd advise not looking it up if you're sensitive to that sort of thing.

But I remember one of the pages in the book specifically addressing toy soldiers and how sinister it is to train children for war with them.

He had an anti-war museum in Germany that was made into an SA hangout against his will in the early 30's. His book was the first much of the public had seen of the horrors of the great war. Many of the people pictured were still in hospitals, too afraid to let their family see them. This was in the early-mid 20's. The world war 1 battlefield is about as hostile a place to a human being as possible.

Oh yeah, the book is called War Against War!.

Living in quite possibly the most liberal part of the United States, no. Never had this problem. It probably helps that I have literally never heard anyone call X-Wing a "war game". It's a miniatures game. Did they ban Star Wars in Spain?

What part of the United States is that?

New York metropolitan area. Granted I should have said "one of," but of course, since New York is the center of the universe, none of those other cities or regions count or matter.

:-)

...And if children could grow up and enlist in the Imperial Navy to become a member of the 181st TIE Interceptor squadron, I might be more concerned about this Star Wars tabletop game.

128th recon. Silent daggers of the Emperor.

/ Sunrider Squadron. Freedom for all. (Depending on who I am playing).

Must bite tongue about some of these comments.....must bite tongue and not respond.....don't make the thread worse and get it closed down.....

Back to Hexdot, there have been a lot of arguments that aggression is a natural part of human existence, especially in young males. Video games and war games are a healthy outlet that can prevent real violence. Just google that aspect and you will find a lot of good stuff.

Man, I should work on my own mythology for my minis. I plan on playing a campaign mode with a few friends soon, so I figure we'll come up with something then. But those are VERY cool.

I've said it many times. Will say it again.

Every time I paint and model a miniature, I tell a story.

Every time I game, I tell a story.

Some of these stories become quite epic...

Take FFG's cthulu boardgame, i forget it's name. played it with a friend.

I became an alcoholic PTSD suffering knight templar, who basically hunted Deep ones.

I swear if a Deep one encounters me, it has to take a san test now. All due to things that happened in that game. it was really, really epic.

Like really. This is a session we still talk about 2 years later.

We still talk about my Nephews Char 3 int 8 dwarf character Danrik the Barbarian 12 years later.

This is why I game. With a tear of fond remembrance in my eye.

I hear that. My group's old RPG stories are fondly remembered, indeed.

Our Spycraft game that was basically Archer ten years before that show existed.

Our D&D campaign where one player went through 17 different characters dying on him, but everyone else was still on their first.
