"No War" people vs X wing

By Hexdot, in X-Wing

"Wargames" are looked with suspicious eyes by many people in my area. War is bad, ergo wargaming is bad too. Not a problem because there will be allways people who are against your hobby. Soccer = Violence. Hunting = Killing. Etc.

But as X wing is more and more popular and there are some X wing plays at youth centers, some "activists" start arguing that wargames should be 18+ only. This include games like Battlefield, CoD or "violent" MMORPG. Few in numbers, but I am cautious about this.

Last year Archery was in their aims, to not avail because the noise was good for people to know about this sport and now there are more practicioners than one year ago, but perhaps only because there were charismatic people behind it.

Problems in your area about this?

Literally zero problems playing a game based on a PG-13 movie.

Moving on.

I have absolutely no idea what you are talking about, so clearly no.

Fortunately no

Sounds like a right pain In the ass

No, my state is too busy repealing LGBT laws that look to be about bathrooms, but really have sweeping proposals that discriminate vs. LGBT citizens. Also removes their recourse to sue about it.

I've never heard of this. If you don't mind my asking, where is this?

Airsoft got a lot of extra legislation in the UK... other than that no.

If you mean Hexdot, then Northern Spain. If you mean me, then Carolina del Norte (North Carolina).

Nope. Nothing against Soccer or Hunting either. Guns maybe, but not hunting.

I think a "'MERICA!" is appropriate here. =)

There are valid reasons things like political correctness evolved, but they have completely lost their way. In doing so, they have also spurred the "obstinately offensive" response that tries to claim they are being victimized by political correctness. Frankly, it's an exhausting line of bull crap on both sides. Can't we just live and let live? Why is other people's business (when not expressly illegal by government, not religious, law) anyone else's business? It's beyond stupid and those people are so myopic they don't even know how much their behavior damages their own cause, or they don't care as they only associate with people who blindly agree with them.

Nope.

I live in Idaho, where men are men and so are the women.

Spain. As said before few voices, but they claim zero tolerance against warmonging recreational activities. Airsoft practicioners.must be veeeery careful. The movement against violent videogames is quite strong, even if restricted to 18+ players.

I have nothing nice to say about these people, so I will merely say good day to you all.

When Jack Chick makes an X-wing tract, you'll know you've arrived.

Thats old Europe.

... or more ... the new old Europe.

Nevertheless. Do it. Be proud of it. Be proud of yourself and play fantastic war games. 1000x better then watching soccer in tv or doing other silly mainstream things.

Airsoft I get. Sorta. It's fun as all get-out, but maybe modeling after real guns wasn't the smartest idea.

But tabletop strategy games? Silliness. Are they trying to ban Chess? Checkers? Go?

I dunno, España. I think I'd try to get on top of the whole bullfighting thing first. Well, at least it's always good to get a reminder that the US doesn't hold a monopoly on "think of the children!!!"

I can understand being against soccer because hockey is clearly the superior sport :P

But no I don't have any problems with thus where I am (Midwest) and I would probably laugh in someone's face if they tried to do this. Or engage snark mode and start crusading against something they liked.

Maybe one day they'll make a Star Wars euro-game, then the continental players can sit there being all passive-aggressive to each other, as seems to be their wont.

"Soccer = Violence"

Wait 'til they've seen football.

Getting into the PC police and SJW topics turn into flame wars fast. If it comes up make sure your voice is heard, reasonable, but heard.

I'll rest comfortable with my PDT and maybe nock down a box of clays this weekend if I cant work any x-wing in; or both if I am lucky.

And we shouldn't have to have arguments over guns either.... 2nd Amendment is very clear.

That out of the way (and lets not derail this and get into a silly argument about it), I don't think I've ever heard of, or seen these people down here in Georgia, but they certainly sound very silly.

PG actually, only RotS and TFA are PG-13.

The problem is that "legitimate" causes are taken over by extremists. PETA is just one example. There are others. Look what they've done to Saturday morning cartoons. I think Tipper Gore was one of the leaders against violent cartoons like Roadrunner, Bugs Bunny and Daffy Duck. Someone pointed out that porn has the least amount of violence and was suggested, tongue in cheek, that maybe kids should watch Saturday morning porn instead of violent cartoons. Stuff that I grew up with like Our Gang, The Three Stooges and The Bowery Boys are labeled demeaning and violent. Cartoons like Tom and Jerry are labeled violent and racist.

Another example is the 'to do' over the use of Native American iconography for sports teams. Rather than fighting for better conditions for their people they get upset about Chief Wahoo or the Florida Seminoles. Whether the numbers hold true today at one time Native Americans had the highest rates of alcoholism and drug use in the US.

There's always going to be someone that doesn't like the way you think, dress or act. The real problem comes about when they come into power and begin telling you how to think, dress and act.

If they support a centralized government that collects taxes to fund...oh...i don't know...say...wars or something...

Politely remind them of their hypocrisy and ask them to leave you alone.

I know this can be hard for some of my fellow countrymen to grasp but there are in fact people who live in places other then the US, complete with their own laws, constitutions and social norms.
