Dengar vs TLT and Blinded Pilot

By killerbeardhawk, in X-Wing

Dengar is hit from a TLT in his arc, he fires back and hits with a blinded pilot crit. At this point should the TLT fire again and wait until next round to flip blinded or do not finish second TLT attack then flip blinded pilot?

We played TLT finished, and blinded was next round. Was this correct?

Blinded Pilot reads:

You cannot perform attacks.

After your next opportunity to attack (even if there was no target for an attack) flip this card face down.

So sequence of events:

1st TLT attack completed

Dengar's ability interrupts

Dengar attacks

At the completion of Dengars attack, Blinded Pilot, which takes effect immediately

2nd TLT attack cannot be performed. As it was an opportunity to attack, the card is flipped facedown.

I agree with VaynMaanen. The 2nd TLT shot should not have happened.

I wasn't sure if opportunity for attack was the whole phase (declare target to deal damage) or just the next attack you make.

That's why the wording is critical.

It's an opportunity, not a declaration. Your second TLT shot is an opportunity. So are Cluster Missiles, Gunner/Luke, Corran's double tap, IGB ability etc. Would also all work the same way.

How would Gunner/Luke/IG-88B ability trigger?

If a pilot was blinded, there's no initial die thrown, there's seems to be no opportunity to use said above three similar abilities, no?

The first attacks misses, dengar attacks deals blinded, then gunner ability trigger but flips blinded down.

In the context of shooting at Dengar it is relevant since you shoot first at him and if he has you in arc, he gets to shoot back at you.

Lets say you have a Decimator with Gunner or yt-1300 with Luke and you shoot at Dengar but miss. He shoots back at you and you get a Blinded Pilot Crit from the attack. You would not be able to attack and i would possibly think you could turn the crit down due to the fact that you have an opportunity but the crit cancelled it.

I might have gotten a bit ahead of myself though.

There's still debate on whether "After an attack" and "After defending" fall in the same window or not, however the FAQ might bring some light into this.

Valen Rudor's FAQ states his ability is before "After attacking" abilities, so one can then deduce from that that all "After defending" abilities trigger before "After attacking", not in the same window.

Valen Rudor's FAQ seems to indicate "After defending" triggers before "After attacking", others claim they are the same window.

Depending on your interpretation, Dengar would attack before IGBs ability triggers, or if IGB has initiative, IGB would get his gunner attack before Dengar retaliates.

The TLT situation still resolves the same way as explained before.

The FAQ specifically states it in relation to Valen so Dengar's ability also triggers before "after attacking". There should be no other claims as it is clearly written in the FAQ.

I agree with you. The FAQ set the precedent, so I'll follow that.

The only thing I'd change with your wording is that the FAQ "does" state it rather than "seems to indicate" it. The more little tidbits like this we get in the faq, the easier it is to make rulings on other things that are the same.
