I have read where people assume that the conversion kit from 1st edition to 2nd edition will not be supported. I find it hard to believe that it would be difficult to include it. From what Ive heard all the monsters from 1st edition have been rerelease in 2nd edition in one expansion or another.
I was worried about this as well and almost posted it like you did! But then I thought about it and it seems to be no big deal at all!
Just tell the app you own all the monster expansions and as long as it does not throw the 1-2 exclusive monsters at you (in that case I guess you can use proxies and the stats/abilities can be found online) you are perfectly fine!
Well, a few heroes might end up not getting converted in the boxes and some monsters arent there yet, but at least the monsters will be there at some point! So all you would miss with this trick are the few heroes that are in the CK but not in any Heroes and Monster Pack. I would be fine with that.
Oh and of course the stats and abilities would not be the CK ones but the more balanced ones from the monster packs, but thats what they intended us to play with anyways and they underwent a lot more playtesting I think.
If the app assumes the H&M version of the monsters are in use then the number of monsters and the events used would be balanced for those versions.
You can try and use the conversion kit versions but you may run into balance issues. Guess we'll have to wait and see if it'll work.
I just downloaded it; can't find an option for the Conversion Kit. I really hope they add it.
Until then, I guess I'll just tell the app I have all the Heroes & Monster boxes ...

Page 4 of the rules at the bottom. They went out of their way to tell you Conversion Kit is not supported.
Of course they're not going to support that. They want you to purchase the H&M packs.
