Thanks for another great episode NSR, and I will also say that I really enjoy the longer shows as it gives us more than 1 or 2 topics and allows you guys the really go in-depth with your discussion.
NOVA Squadron Radio – Episode 48: Ryan Fleming and the Ghost
To Sean: sweet use if Decoy on Oicunn. That's a card with a lot of neat uses that most of the time gets nudged out for something else.
I enjoy having a long podcast that'll last for the trip to and from an x-wing thing or for a couple trips to the gym!
YAAAAZZZ!!!!

Ok, back to your normal forum experience, but this made me laugh and I hope we hear it for a long time to come!

This is one of the best ad on x wing podcasts.
I completely lost it when skinning a wookie came up. Brilliantly done.
I don't mind the length if it is "chunked" properly. That way I can come back to it over the course of time and not lose too much.
For what it's worth it actually enjoy longer podcasts, I listen to the podcast because I like the people doing them and want to hear from them, so as a result I've rarely had my fill from a 90 minute cast.
I just want to say, that long stretch where that one guy talked about being a judge, but refused to talk about any calls he made irritated me.
"I was a judge at an event, but I don't want to mention anything relevant that happened. Listen to me babble on about being a judge as I say nothing of actual substance."
Otherwise, great podcast so far. Also, Rebel players aren't thinking hard enough when they say they can't deal with both Palp Aces and U-Boats.

Will be a staple for some time to come. I might add music to it though.
Ed, great show as always! I had two flights this morning totaling 3 hours in length, so thanks for the in-air entertainment!
Personally loved the breakdown of the Ghost. Though I was a bit surprised at the overall disappointment in Zeb crew card. I'm playing a list right now with 2 Ghosts (and an awing blocker). One of the Ghosts has FCS, ABT, Zeb, and Dash crew. He barrels through the asteroid field like a monster truck hoping to play bumper cars with the aces hiding around the rocks. It has been able to surprise a few people when they thought the 2 hard turn was a safe play, only to find the front arc of a Ghost facing you instead.

This VCX build is delightful.

My favorite ghost build is still chopper with AC/ABT, zeb, dash and engine. Same as davidhaus said, you just ignore asteroids to guarantee the best placement you can get to catch aces.
Regarding the long shows: I actually like the times you guys can break down a match turn by turn and give your reasoning for what you did. Yes, it takes forever, but that's what fast-forward is for if you don't like it.
I will say, with respect, that Sean (Shawn? Shaun? your "resident TO") has a habit of repeating himself and kind of talking in circles. I usually end up skipping his segments--not because I don't like him, but he usually covers topics that don't interest me such as local (to him) tournaments or rulings he's made in tournaments, etc. That's when I started noticing the circular talking: I'd hit the 30 second skip button, and he's start saying the same exact thing he said before. I thought there was a glitch in the program at first. He's a very clear and detailed speaker, though, and comes over well on the broadcast.
Man, I hope that doesn't come off as me being a jerk--I'm just trying to give a little constructive criticism here.
Listening to the podcast right now, and hearing the crew talk about the ghost and how they wish you could have Chopper move first....
If only there were a cheap systems upgrade that made you move at pilot skill 0. Say, enhanced scopes? For example:
Chopper 41 points
zeb
Autoblaster turret
Enhanced scopes
Granted, you miss out on that sweet FCS, but just saying, there are other options.
Great podcast as usual though. Tons of great content. You make my commute more enjoyable :-)
Anyway, great work

Now I want to try a similar Chopper build, but with Enhanced Scopes and Anti-Pursuit lasers instead of Accuracy Corrector and Engine.
I may try this squad tonight:
Chopper (37)
- Enhanced Scopes (1)
- Autoblaster Turret (2)
- Dash Rendar (2)
- Zeb (1)
- Anti-Pursuit Lasers (2)
Leebo (34)
- Push The Limit (3)
- Outrider (5)
- Heavy Laser Cannon (7)
- Anti-Pursuit Lasers (2)
Comes to 99 points. Sadly I can't really find a good way to squeeze an extra point to put an Engine Upgrade on Leebo, unless I drop Zeb.

Could be fun. The main problem(s) being without AC you don't get the same guarantee on damage from the autoblsater, and not having engine makes it a lot harder to block or engineer range 1 shots at pilots like soontir.
I'm just not sold on Zeb yet. I'd like him better if the enemy couldn't shoot back. Does zeb still trigger if the enemy bumps into the rear arc of the Ghost?

Yup. Special arc is still an arc (this is less of an issue if you have a docked phantom like I run with my zeb/ac/abt build, since you still get to shoot them. You could also take APT or something).

Yes, very much this. Sean (or alternate spelling as above
), we love you, man, but ****. In fact, many of the hosts are guilty of this from time to time. I've often thought that this show would be under 2 hours if ever a point could be made and then moved on from.
And I too very much hope I'm not coming across as a jerk. NOVA is by far one of the best-produced gaming podcasts around, and I super appreciate all of your guys' hard work. I think ya just need more direction/focus, or even editing.
Again, I hope that's taken constructively. Thanks for all you guys do!
Josh
Edited by jmeGood show guys!
I was a little surprised by the unanimous dismissal of all the named Ghost pilots. I agree that the Lothal Rebel is a great value, but I think each of the named pilots has it's place in the game. In fact, I would say that this is the best that the designers have ever done in terms of making all pilots of a particular ship an attractive choice. There aren't any stinkers here.
Chopper: Sure, it would be great for him to be a PS 1 or 2, but he's still moving before the never-ending barrage of aces that are out there. What's better than blocking an ace? Stressing it too. He can fire his 4 dice primary weapon before U-Boats, and maybe even boost into range one of U-Boats with EU or Leebo aboard.
Kanan: This guy is going to win tournaments with Biggs in tow.
Hera: As an Imperial Ace player, I fear nothing more than Hera with Intel Agent and ABT.
Someone is going to crack the code of the Ghost very soon. I think it can be built to handle both U-Boats, and Palp-Aces very well, but I don't think it will necessarily be the Lothal Rebel.
Anyways, those are just my 2 cents. Also, I liked the shorter segments this time around!
I appreciate the episode fellas. Nice to have some X-wing input that doesn't leave an awful tatse in my mouth, if you know what I mean.
Quick note on Zeb crew. He's even worse because he does not allow you to attack a ship you are touching with the bonus attack granted by the Phantom title. Only works when you "activate."
*If anyone still wants to argue with me, I emailed and Frank wrote back that this is correct.

Its funny to mention that, because right after we recorded the show I went to a tournament and Kanan really gave me more trouble then I had thought he could. I plan to mention that next episode. You really can not discount that 4 attack dice with a ship that can 5-K Turn every turn with Hera crew and drop your attacks with Rec Spec multiple times.
I was really impressed after seeing it played well on the table!
Good show guys!

Sorry but i dont think you can build it to handle both U-boats and Palp-Aces well. Kanan(ABT/AC)+Biggs probably comes closest to that, but it's far from a sure thing. There would have to be a huge hidden thing that we're all collectively missing so far (such as K-wings with Tactician+TLT). Not saying it cant happen, i just dont think its likely.
