Cauldron of Blood / Shrine of Nurgle - Work Together?

By guest384059, in Warhammer Invasion Rules Questions

I'm wondering if the damage created by Cauldron of Blood triggers the effect of Shrine of Nurgle. Essentially I'm wondering what exactly counts as "damage during combat".

And I'm guessing that if the Shrine of Nurgle IS triggered that the unit it corrupts is still attacking, since it was declared as an attacker before being corrupted and nothing in the rules says that if an attacking unit is corrupted it is no longer attacking; the rules only say corrupted units can not attack, which I guess means can not be declared as an attacker.

Yes it would corrupt the attacking unit but after that unit has already been declared, and hence the attacker's damage will still be dealt. It's the same reason Seductive Promise has to be played right after the Declare zone of attack step, just before the Declare Attackers step.

I mean Seduced by Darkness... :)

This combo can work offensively, however. Declare your attackers, then use the Cauldron. It's in combat as we understand it, so the ping will corrupt a potential defender before they can be declared.

I do not see how this can work. The text of Cauldron says:

Kingdom . Forced : When this zone is attacked, deal 1 damage to one target attacking unit.

So it seems clear that the Cauldron is forced to activate when it's zone is targeted. As was pointed out above, given the language of the card, you are going to damage one of the attacking units which means the corruption effect will not help THIS turn.

If you had mulitiple Cauldrons out you coudl clearly damage multiple attackers. I also believe based on other rulings such as We'z Bigga, that you could stack the damage on one target unit.

Bah. Remembered the card differently and didn't check. Sorry, my bad.

um, it also says corrupt one target ATTACKING unit, so you would corrupt your own unit

I'm sorry, I don't see how this is possible. Shrine to Nurgle and Cauldron of Blood say:

Kingdom. Forced: After an opponent's unit is damaged during combat, corrupt that unit.

Kingdom. Forced: When this zone is attacked, deal 1 damage to one target attacking unit.

Shrine to Nurgle only applies to your opponent's units. That, and Cauldron of Blood only targets attacking units, and you can not attack yourself.

Yes, obviously this combo only works if you are corrupting your opponents attacking unit(s). This is best when you want to attack your opponents battlefield in your next attack, otherwise it needs to be mixed with effects that do damage (or more damage) to corrupt units. Makes getting rid of attackers prior to damage assignment easier.
