TIE Bombers List

By RC8015FiSkirata, in X-Wing Squad Lists

So, I'm trying to make a list that makes good use of the TIE Bombers from my pack and the Imperial Veterans I will be getting soon, as well as the same with a TIE Defender. In the absence of any hard data as to the new Defender pilot abilities, I was thinking of trying the following list or something like it. Any suggestions on how to improve a such a list?

Tomax Bren (24)
Crack Shot (1)
Extra Munitions (2)
Concussion Missiles (4)
Long-Range Scanners (0)
Captain Jonus (22)
Ruthlessness (3)
Plasma Torpedoes (3)
Long-Range Scanners (0)
Colonel Vessery (35)
Crack Shot (1)
Tractor Beam (1)
Stealth Device (3)
TIE/D (0)
Total: 99

I'd trade both LRS's out for Guidance Chips. would also consider not going double concussion - maybe plasma torps on Jonus. you'd have the points to put EM on him and keep the one point init bid at that point.

Thanks. I would love to do that, but I unfortunately don't have either Guidance Chips or a second EM. I would love to do that though. The plasma torps are a great idea that I didn't consider.

If you want to use Long-range scanners, go with Homing Missiles. If you want to use guidance chips, go with proton torpedoes or maybe plasma torpedoes. Concussion missiles are also quite good with guidance chips.

Basically, mathematically speaking, LRS + homing = GC + proton torp = GC + concussions. Plasma torps are slightly less, except against low agility targets with lots of shields (then they are more).

When Imperial Vets comes out, Gamma w/ LRS + homing (and extra munitions if desired) is going to be the new hotness. It only takes 3 of them to erase a contracted scout before it can shoot a single torpedo. With 4 and extra munitions, there's not really much the contracted scouts can do to win the mindless dice fest.

Anyway, as to your list, I think Jonus is useless here. You can easily drop him for something more effective. Also, Ruthlessness is much better on Vessery (he gets to shoot twice with TIE/D, so that's double the splash damage potential!).

This list, for example, will be fairly terrifying for its alpha strike potential:

Vessery w/ ruthlessness, TIE/D & tractor = 39

2 gammas w/ homing missiles & LRS = 23 x 2

Epsilon pilot = 15

100

But if you want to run named pilots rather than generics, you could go with:

Vessery w/ ruthlessness, TIE/D, tractor & hull upgrade = 42

Tomax w/ adrenaline rush, homing missiles, extra munitions & LRS = 32 (could run crack shot if you prefer, although with Tractor beam, its not going to be needed as much)

Omega Leader w/ juke and comm relay = 26

100

If you prefer a 2nd bomber in place of OL, a Gamma w/ homing, extra munitions & LRS will ultimately be more useful than Jonus.

This is my current iteration of the list. I've learned two things here: 1) I really need a second Extra Munitions. 2) Homing missiles don't require you to spend a target lock (how did I ever miss that before?!). Thanks!

I would think Tomax Bren would want Guidance Chip. I don't think he would have too much of a hard time finding targets at PS 8. Yes, you won't get the PS 9+, but the Gamma Squad Vet will.

Is the Tractor Beam worth it on Vessery? It could be alright, but you could always go with the X7 title and no Tractor Beam.

Sooooo worth it!

At least on Vessery (he's the best Tractor user thanks to his ability)

If you want an X-7 defender, go with Rexler.

I think it is a shame not to ruthlessly abuse Vessery's ability with the TIE/D title. His offensive output is so high that he is public enemy number 1. Running alongside the Tomax Brenngun of doom, there are no easy targets.

That also leaves you with enough points for the most efficient end-game closer Omega Leader? Coincidence, I think NOT!

Tomax, OL, and Vessery is an alphastrike ace build that has the best of both worlds.
