What's the value of Tie Advance minus title X-1?

By TwoDeeSix, in X-Wing Squad Lists

I've got more experience in X-wing game theory than table top game time, so, please forgive my question if it's too basic.

I like the Tie Advance, mostly because I wanted Darth Vader zipping around for the win. However, anytime I see Tie Advance in someone's list, it's paired with the upgrade "fixes" from the Raider.

I've got a nice collection of many (small and large) ships (that I'll play), Rebel, Imperial, and a few scum, but, I can't see getting the Imperial Raider. I'm not seeing myself playing Huge ships, or Epic, and it's a lot of coin anyway.

So, my question is whether a viable Tie Advance build is out there without the Raider upgrades (Title X1, and the Accuracy corrector)?

Thanks in advance.

(edit: I meant the Advance Targeting Computer, though Accuracy corrector would fly too)

value of tie advance before tie/x1 is literally worst ship in the game

those fixes were released for a reason, and there's a reason it's up to 4 points worth of "fix"

no need to buy the raider when you can proxy, though

The Title was printed because the developers (and data) back up that the TIE Advanced was not really worth the points it takes to add it to your squad. The Advanced Targeting Computer (on high PS pilots) and Accuracy Corrector (on generic pilots) take advantage of the system slot and discount given by the title.

This doesn't mean you can't fly the Advanced without the title, but if you are competitive the Advanced sans title probably isn't the best choice.

Really, if you aren't in a tournament print your own copy of the upgrade. If you like it enough to fly in a tournament setting where you need a real copy, see if you can borrow one, or trade, or eBay, or maybe it really is worth getting that Raider. It looks super good on the shelf, if nothing else.

I have seen reasonable prices on EBay for the title card. in addition, if you have a friend that bought a Raider or two and doesn't have too many TIE Advanced, then you might be able to get one or two from them.

I'd highly recommend just ebay'ing the cards or as others have said or proxy. I picked up the Title and ATC for $12.50 so it isn't too bad.

Yea, I see them sold on Facebook groups for around $10 USD.

To answer your question "no".

If you do not play tournaments, which I do not, proxy the cards but, in this case I do have a Raider.

To win on a regular basis you need all the advantages you can get. Adding a crit to your dice roll is a great advantage.

I guess it was that obvious why I never saw them without the "fix." They weren't fooling when they threw up a 4 point freebie / mia culpa. I wish they would have done it in a more affordable package however.

I only am ready for start-up or casual games, but, I'd like to do so with an eye on competitive / organized play. So, I would like the proper cards, eventually. Plus, I have the gene that wants everything to be above board, so I am hesitant to use auctions and proxies (hurrah for game companies, right?). That said, the Tie advance pack plus auction cards will cost almost twice the regular small ship pack price. Or, the Raider plus advance (for Vader) is about $100 USD.

Never be hesitant to proxy (with opponent's foreknowledge off, don't just spring em midgame :P)

It's not really feasible to expect someone to either commit $ to stuff they havnt tried or to simply play the **** version of the ship. So long as the proxy is made evident, you should have no problems using it in casual matches and local tournies

Yea, most people are fine with proxying in casual play especially if you're a newer player.

Even if you attend tournaments, some people might be willing to let you borrow their upgrade cards.

Darth Vader would disagree. Also the Scyk.
