How much of the new WFR system does FFG own? (Can they make a Terrinoth RPG with these mechanics?)

How much of the new WFR mechanics and ideas does FFG own? Can they make their own Terrinoth RPG with it without paying a license fee to Games Workshop?

It sounds quite interesting and would likely work well for a future Terrinoth RPG system.

I'm sure FFG would want to continue making the Warhammer RPG for Games Workshop as it will likely always be more popular, but at the same time it would benefit them to be able to use the new system on their own Terrinoth RPG.

I would imagine that they can do whatever they want with game mechanics. Now obviously a Terrinoth RPG couldn't use such things as a twin-tailed comet or the hammer of sigmar on its die faces, but I don't see why they can't port their own game mechanics into other systems.

So for the most part the mechanics are FFG's and the setting is Games Workshop's or did Games Workshop actively participate in designing the gameplay?

I thought I read they had consultants from Games Workshop.

I think it would be cool if the mechanics are 100% FFG's to do with as they please including making other flavored RPGs with them.

i agree! if the mechanics are all FFG then they should run with it.....but i would like to see midnight comeback....ill buy up a core set of midnight in the symbolic system.

Yes they did have to consult with GW, but it is more about them portraying their IP in an acceptable way than about game mechanics. I would be very surprised to hear they had an actual impact on any game mechanics.

It's likely that neither GW nor FFG own the mechanics, as game mechanics aren't covered by copyright. In order to claim ownership, they'd have to apply for a patent, and the cost of that process makes that an unlikely step.

Which means, of course, that FFG could release anything they please with the new system, unless their agreement with GW says otherwise (which it very well might)

I think that FFG if they would whant they could do a terrinoth RPG with this mechanics. They would make a little changes in the system and it would work pretty well. of course You can do it by Yourself it's really easy to use the system mechnaics and play in another world like Terrinoth.
