Unless I am confused but 3 is just as the death star explodes and a bit before. 1 is assuming the very start of the true rebellion so possibly post TV show rebels.
So 2 would be stealing the plans?

Probably yes. So far the best way to guess timelines is when heroes' and villains' side missions can be done.
I'm betting the set the time scale was set as "3", as future-proof so they could do something like this:
3 - Galactic Civil War
2 - period between Ep 3 and Ep 4 (era of Rebels, Rogue One, the future young Han Solo film, etc)
1 - Ep 1-3 time frame
Even though most fans are less enthused about the prequels, and FF seems to be staying away from that era, I think out of all the major SW FF games, IA would be best suited for have a prequel campaign/setting. Just think, lots of Jedi characters, some cool scum & villainy characters (from movies and Clone Wars TV show), and tons of ground based battle scenarios that existed during the Clone Wars against a variety of droid army mobs.
The other FF properties don't really work as well if they tapped the prequels. Rebellion is Empire vs Rebels, so if set in a Clone Wars setting, all the Separatist leaders aren't well known or interesting to a casual SW fan. X-Wing could use some of the starfighters from the prequels, but there's not a whole lot. Armada wouldn't have many movie ships to pull from before having to resort to EU type designs.
I would like to see eventually some prequel campaigns in the Clone Wars, I think they could have a variety of new melee Jedi, some Clone Commando ranged attackers, and lots of droid designs.
The only major problem I would see is that "Imperial" Assault...it's in the title.....that would have to be amended, lol.
Luke is only available from 3, which makes sense. So 2 could be during and just before the events of the movie (He's only actually part of the Rebellion during the last act).

Time period 1 is not the clone wars and there won't be any prequel stuff in IA.
1) FFG has stated it has no intention or doesn't even have the rights to the prequel stuff.
2) We have allies and villians available in Time Period 1 that weren't around during the Clone Wars.
3) Clone Wars would require a complete overhaul of the game. You'd have to replace all the imperial units and all the rebel units/heros.
The only clone wars characters that might appear in IA are those that have also appeared in rebels.
Aren't the Nexu from the prequels?
Either way, the only important thing from the Clone Wars is Ahsoka and she can 100% show up in Rebels related content.
lol, coke jinx mulletcheese?

1) FFG not interested in prequel stuff - that's true, though they definitely take stuff from it, like the Nexu. but the second part cannot be true....it's not like Lucasfilm/Disney issues the Star Wars license piecemeal.
2-3) Of course if they did make an IA game set pre-ep 4, they would have to issue new heroes, villain units, map tiles, etc. What better way to get people to buy ANOTHER whole core set, in 4-5 years from now? ![]()

That is just flat not true. Christian Peterson, then owner and CEO of FFG before the Asmodee buyout, said in a panel at some convention (that was recorded and listed online) that they were not interested in making prequel era stuff fir x-wing "at that time" (which was several years ago now) but that their license did, in fact, include the rights to all of Star Wars, including the prequels.

Generic characters should be able to appear in all time periods. Trandoshan Hunters probably also would be able to appear in prequel material, even though they were never shown in the prequel movies.
