Where to buy X Wing miniatures in LA, Texas, Chicago and New York?

By J1mbo, in X-Wing Organized Play

Edit: Sorry I can't change the post title, I meant to write Dallas, not Texas, apologies.

I regularly travel to any one of the above cities and wondered where the best places would be to pick up Xwing expansions during my short stays. Hell I may even take a mini xwing kit in case I get some time to play when there! Prices and availability of X wing in my area of the World is a problem. Would be great if you could give some idea of whether they are below RRP or not, thank you!

My experience is that brick and mortar stores generally sell for retail price (hence the name). My local store certainly does. I don't fault them for that, but I also find it difficult to pay retail when there are a variety of online stores that can provide a discount of about 30% or so. Check out Miniature Market or Cool Stuff Inc. If you are determined to buy local (and if you don't mind the upcharge, go for it) google game stores in the city you're looking in and that should help you out.

In the DFW Texas area Generation X is a really nice store, not far at all from DFW Airport (by Texas reckoning at least - my inner Philadelphian still recoils at the concept using a highway to get somewhere in 15 minutes is "local").

Good thing you narrowed the Texas thing down a bit... I mean, you can get in your truck and start driving from my house and go to my brother's house and it will take you 9 hours at slightly faster than posted speeds and still be in Texas... and neither one of us are very close to the border of either side of the state. It used to be worse when it was 55 mph. In that trip, I'm sure I pass within a half hour of at least 10 stores.

Thank you Grayfax, I meant to say Dallas in the original thread title, can certainly see why you would need to narrow things down a little bit!

If you're just looking to pick up expansions, barnes and nobles (chain book store) I believe still caries X-wing. Those can be found near anywhere.

If you're looking to get a game in, Madness Comics in north dallas (plano) works well. Friday nights is x-wing night and pretty active.

In Dallas, we love our highways, so you can get most anywhere in about 30 minutes.

Except between 4 - 7 pm during a weekday... then you are in a state-paved parking lot on a lot of roads... ha! One reason I love my small town... except we don't have the Awesomeness of Madness or Wild West or SciFi Factory or Area 51...

In the Chicago area, Games Plus in Mount Prospect, Illinois is where I go. It's a northwest suburb of the city and has a separate game room for playing as well. Regular retail is the norm, but you get $10 gift certificates for ever $100 spent, I believe.

Madness is the place to be in DFW.

In Dallas, there's also Texas Toy Soldier, which is smaller than Madness, but is nearly exclusively wargaming, doesn't have huge crowds or loads of teenagers (nothing wrong with them playing the game, but if I've been teaching them all day, the last thing I want to have to deal with is more immaturity when I'm trying to relax; granted, not all are immature), and has EXCELLENT prices.

Thursdays are league nights, but check the Yahoo group or PM me before you show up if you're expecting a match because the scene is highly variable from week to week.
