New Games

By David Spangler, in The Crystal Ball and The Wishing Well

I've been hoping FFG would reveal the two new games yet undisclosed before now or at least soon, especially with Christmas coming. With a limited budget these days, I'd hate to blow it on Runewars and then have something even more interesting and exciting show up that I would then have to pass on.

I do note in Upcoming that Planet Steam in on the boat heading to the FFG warehouses presumably in time for Christmas, but there's no information on price, etc. However, this is an import, not an FFG house design, so I don't think it's one of the two remaining mystery games.

I think that you're right, it is not one of the mystery games. But, I read somewhere that Planet Steam is going to be around $125. I'm sure someone will correct me if I'm wrong-because this is the internet.

Yes, I saw that, too. Now that's a real budget-buster! Buy that and you're blowing off more than just steam! serio.gif

I'm hoping that after the holiday sale we will get a peek at at least one of the other two boxes.

As for Planet Steam, I'm really curious about this game, but with a lack of information on it I doubt I'll be buying it anytime soon, as for the original posters comment about picking up runewars and then having something else awesome come up. If i remember correctly there were 2 standard sized boxes and runewars was the big one, I think runewars will be a must have for myself so it'd be interesting to see if anything that's exciting me as much as that is going to be one of the other two (with the exception of possibly a gears of war game).

I thought it was 2 big boxes and 1 standard size.

If you want info on Planet Steam go to Geekdo.com and look at the reviews there. It does look interesting, but Runewars will be getting my money before Planet Steam.

I've got my fingers crossed for Reigns Of Power!

Good point. They announced one good game after the other and my interest shifted form game to game. In the end I bought nothing and I am again waiting for the release of my current favorite. Maybe this goes on and on ... At least I save my money :)

HERE IS THE PROBLEM!!! It is already Dec. 10th and the site says that the new games are coming in winter 09/10. If they have not even shown what the other two are yet and the Runewars will not be out until 2010...then what do we get before Christmas/new year. What game is going to be here for WINTER 09? I dont think we will see anything!

After consulting my psychic hotline, ouija board, and Magic 8 Ball, I have some new guesses:

Mutant Chronicles: Siege of the Citadel- FFG already has a Mutant Chronicles license and this could be a Doom replacement that plays faster (like Space Hulk). Maybe they could re-use some of the figure molds from the minis game.

Dune- not a re-theme, but ACTUAL Dune. Syfy Channel has the rights, which is why FFG was going to re theme it (presumably to Twilight Imperium characters). FFG already has a business relationship with Syfy (Battlestar Galactica) so it's not impossible to think that they agreed to a real Dune.

Yes, I know I should be doing something constructive right now, instead of daydreaming about board games, but this hobby is very addictive- and I am so very weak.

This new game does not look like Reins of Power.

It may be Warhammer 40K, but it's not Reins of Power.

Rage.

Gdherter,

I know it'd be nice to get a few new games before christmas, but I just wanted to point out winter technically goes from Dec 21 to March 21, so if it came out in Feb/Mar it'd still technically be winter 09/10,

Although I really wouldn't mind a few new games before xmas. I really didn't see HH coming though, so I'm really excited to see what the last game is, considering the first two I'd imagine it'll be pretty awesome as well.

So far, every one of my predictions has been wrong. Not in a bad way- they both look good, and I'm still getting my Tannhauser 2.0 rules, Cosmic Incursion, and a bunch of Cthulhu asylum packs.

I'm betting the last box is a Talisman expansion.

I will bet against any expansion.

The last box left shaded out looks kind of like an LCG box to me.

I guess it will be an LCG based on Runebound/Descent/Runewars theme. I would love to see it!
