Chopper/Corran list: Crew Options are all too good!

By TasteTheRainbow, in X-Wing Squad Lists

After a few games against scouts I've decided that dual VCX just isn't ready for prime time until scouts are less common. But I do love chopper. And I can fly Corran quite well. So here's the new list.

Chopper Corran (99)

Corran Horn (49) - E-Wing

Push The Limit (3), R2-D2 (4), Advanced Sensors (3), Engine Upgrade (4)

"Chopper" (50) - VCX-100

Fire Control System (2), Autoblaster Turret (2), Tactician (2), Gunner (5), Ion Projector (2)

Other crew options:

Hera. With the extra points I can bump ion projector to engine and probably take way less alpha strike damage.

Dash. This would leave ion projector alone. But it lets you approach scouts through any asteroid field, no matter how thick. The scouts can't turn in or they will be throwing the game away.

Kanan. This would help with the tough time chopper has getting rid of stress. It would also make 49-point Corran into an even bigger monster than he already is.

Thoughts? Suggestions? Concerns?

scouts are good targets for EU lothal rebel with an initiative bid (only need 1 point). Bump their torps away!

also helps to take the biggest, chunckiest asteroids in your collection when playing v them and then insulating the VCX against them via use of Dash crew

don't think gunner tactician is particularly good on them

Gunner/tactician makes any imp ace matchup an auto-win. Try it a few times!

I think I'm leaning towards Dash though. He just lets me play in a way most players have never seen.

I like the list. That corran build is killer (people seem to have forgotten how awesome advanced sensors are).

I think you could also consider dropping ion projector for a flechette torpedo. That way, you have one shot out back arc and tactician means if its range 2, that's a double stress. If that doesn't appeal to you, maybe try Dash? I think he makes sense on a big base ship like the ghost, but I have no play experience with it, so can only conjecture...

Flechette would do real work in that spot. My real concern there is that chopper will have trouble capitalizing on the double-stress.

If I catch an interceptor or Vader in arc I would have to pull a 5k. If they pull a hard 2 in the other direction then they won't even be in range.

Hmmm, true. Although you also have Corran. Very situational. I guess at worse, you take one enemy ship out of the fight a couple turns while it sheds the stress. Not great for you, but not terrible...

Ion projector + Chopper pilot does that pretty well already. A ship, especially a fragile ace, that takes an ion and a stress in the same round is probably hosed, but definitely out for 2 rounds.

Certainly! Assuming of course that said ace bumps Chopper and then Ion Projector procs. Also situational ;)

Just depends on which 2 point upgrade gets the most actual occurrence! :P

Chopper + Ion Projector and Autoblaster Turret is a nuisance to fragile and agile ships regardless if they hit or not. Definitely can limit the lanes of arc dodgers. The Gunner and Tactician looks pretty nifty too to further zone out the arc dodgers. I like your build.

Advance Sensors is pretty cool. Not sure if you want to swap it out for Sensor Jammer for more defensiveness against Dead-Eye usage. In any event, it's probably a matter preference and usage of Corran. Advance Senor to PTL and then clear the stress can be invaluable. I probably want to try your build. Not sure if some of the folks at my LGS will be too happy if I bring something like this though.
