Spoilers for Wolves of the North

By JerusalemJones, in 1. AGoT General Discussion

These cards were in an ad in Game Trade Magazine, so I figure it's okay to post them here. I find it funny that the cards that are pictured are Greyjoy and Martell:

Drowned Fanatic -- Greyjoy

Cost: 3

Str: 2, Mil, Int, Ironborn, Holy Crest

Response: After you win initiative, discard the top 2 cards of each opponent's deck.

Palace Spy -- Martell

Cost: 3

Str 2, Int, Ally

Some of the text on the card is covered by the Drowned Fanatic, so the stuff in (parenthesis) is my best guess: Response: After you (play Palace) Spy from your hand, (search your) deck for 1 influence (providing) location, reveal th(at card and add) it to your hand.(Then shuffle your) deck.

The last card is "Ahead of the Tide" Appears to be a House Greyjoy only event. Most of the text is obscured, but it appears to be something along the lines of if an opponent would win initiative, you can win initiative instead.

And I'm sure these were mentioned in the original release, but the ad also talks about Janos Slynt, Septon Cellador and Craster, and of course the "stackable agendas." This issue of Game Trader is for the January releases, so we'll have to wait until next year, but at least we should see Princes of the Sun in the next few weeks.

Hmmmm....more milling tech for Greyjoy. I wonder how close that is getting to being a viable alternate build for the Krakens.

Isn't this thing supposed to be out this week, by the way?

I think it's PotS that's supposed to be out more or less now. The next round of CPs is late Dec/early Jan, isn't it?

An event that lets me win initiative and a non-unique holy crested character that lets me mill 2 cards when I win initiative? Hmmm...

Aeron Damphair x2
Drowned Disciple x3
Desperate Looter x3
Sea Urchin x3
Harbor Thug x3

Fishmonger's Square x2

I can see at least a pretty decent subtheme being possible. Winter Resource Denial coupled with Deck Discard? Get the cancels and hand destruction in there... maybe, just maybe.

OT is it just me, or did Stag Lord finally give himself an avatar? And from Call of Cthulhu, no less (of course, mine is from Android, but still...)

I'm looking forward to seeing what Princes of the Sun has to offer. The Palace Spy could be a good card, but it all depends on what Martell is looking for. However, it is a great way to pull your Chambers card, or a Sea, and neither of those are to be scoffed at.

Supposedly Princes of the Sun is shipping to distributors now, so we could see it next week or the week after. I would suspect that the Chapter Pack will be a few weeks later so that both are not releasing at the same time, putting it most likely in January thanks to the holidays.

I can hardly wait. This is making me pretty antsy. Especially with a new league starting here tomorrow. I want new cards now!

What are the stackable Agendas ?

I know one of them must be The North and that you can have more than one as it discounts the Wolves ofthe North. Is anything else known about these new Agendas ?

I still don't have any Agendas until I pick up some more chapter packs, my local store managed to get 7 of the ones I don't have.

No one actually knows. Your guess here seems as good as anything. The only thing I would add is that as "The North" is written on the card Wolves of the North, it looks more like a trait than a card title. So whatever stackable Agendas are, Wolves of the North may not require you to play multiple copies of the same Agenda.

Actually Wolves of the North does not say The North as one of its traits, its traits are " Creature. Direwolf" and then it says "Reduce the cost to play Wolves of the North by 1 for each The North agenda you are running. "

So it does look like The North is an agenda as well as a trait on some cards like the location Beyond the Wall from the chapter pack of the same name.

Sorry for the double post but missed this.

"Beyond the Wall is the second installment in the series, Defenders of the North, and features exciting new deckbuilding possibilities for both the Night's Watch and the Wildlings, including a new The North agenda," so I guess we won't see the agenda that discounts Wolves of the North until the month after they come out.

You are missing the point of the templating.

I never claimed The North was a trait of Wolves of the North. I said that based on the text of Wolves of the North, it stands to reason that some of the "stackable Agendas" will have the trait " The North " themselves. A card's traits are always printed in bold, italic text at the top of the card's text box. So of course, the traits on Wolves of the North itself are Creature and Direwolf . However, in it's text, where it says to reduce the cost to play Wolves of the North by 1 for each The North Agenda you are running, The North is also written in bold, italic text. Why is The North in bold, italic type there in the middle of the text box? Well, on every other card created for this game, when text is written in bold, italic text, it is referring to a trait, not to a card title. So that means that the text is referring to the trait " The North " on an Agenda card, not to the title of a specific Agenda. So it seems like there will be more than one Agenda in this round of chapter packs with the trait " The North. "

That idea is actually supported by what you quote in your second plot. Sounds like there will be an Agenda with The North trait in each of the first two chapter packs of the new cycle, just like there was a plot with the City trait in each of the first to chapter packs of the last cycle.

Okay, point taken, no need to be defensive.

Ktom isn't being defensive, he's just being thorough. Take my word for it, when you have a rules question which inevitably will be answered by Ktom, you'll be thankful. happy.gif

Welcome to the game!

As mentioned above, ktom isn't being defensive. He is one of the best teachers the community has. He will explain things in great detail. Sit at the master's feet and learn. :)

Again, welcome. Hope to see you around the boards.

Back to the stackable Agendas, I wouldn't be surprised if there was a different North agenda in each Chapter Pack. I'm still wondering what kind of agendas they will be, since I would assume the reason to stack them would be to gain additional benefits and probably weaknesses as well, like needing extra power to win or something similar. If there isn't some sort of downside it would make it worthwhile to run as many agendas as possible to gain their benefits.

I was curious about that, too. I also would assume that both benefits and drawbacks will pile up, which makes me wonder how strong (or detrimental) any one of them would be on their own. Will it be worth playing just one? Will it be too unwieldy to play 3 or 4? Might be interesting having to find a balance.

Here's an interesting question: will stackable Agendas be their own, self-contained thing, or will you be able to stack them with existing Agendas?

I would assume they would have weaknesses for each of them. The question will be is how many weaknesses takes away the advantage gained. Will be quite the balancing act possibly.

It mentions in one of the articles I read that the stackable agendas and then the Night's Watch and Wildlings, could be the Agenda's will be themed around integrating those groups into the House's. Will be interesting to see either way, and with all the snow we got yesterday I would be happy to see these chapter packs start as it is now definetely the time of year for it. Just yesterday I was saying the Stark words, Winter is Coming.

Here in Minnesota, Winter has Come. Storm Warnings all over the state for tomorrow and Wedensday. So looking forward to delivering mail this week.

Same thing here in NS, nor'easter came and dumped alot of snow, and it was our first snow fall.

Makes me more in the mood to start seeing and playing with the new cards in this expansion as they wil match the season. When does this release ?
