I'm still new to X-Wing and I haven't used the tractor beam or the YV-666 yet but I'm trying to toy with ideas for the YV-666. Everything I've read says the YV-666 downside is being chased down from behind for obvious reasons. I was just curious how effective it would be to use the tractor beam on it more specifically with Moralo Eval who can use the cannon in the auxiliary arc to sort of string them along like a type of leash idea. Would you be able to keep them from getting behind you and allow your other ships to take shots at the opponent or maybe at least delay it long enough to get an extra shot or two in?
Moralo Eval YV-666 paired with Tractor beam effective?
That's certainly possible. You can fly them onto asteroids and stuff, it wont work against big ships like the YV or the Falcon, but it can still be used to debuff. The problem is, it's going to be an expensive ship that's specialty is a lackluster cannnon.
My current morallo has Heavy Laser Cannon, Zuckus, 4-LOM, and Dengar, it works pretty well.
Heavy laser seems to be the go to for Moralo as it's the best use of his ability (provided you back it up with the appropriate crew or pilot abilities. Naldyn's build gets a lot of meanness in there. People getting behind the YV is a concern but with heavy laser cannons you can blast the crap out of them from every range, especially with the 180 arc. Keep a friendly nearby to help with anyone who gets behind and you might be sitting pretty.
The tractor beam also benefits from a fairly high pilot skill. While a big part of its use is the ability to move a ship around, stripping a green die off a ship is no small thing either. Ideally if you're looking to use tractor beams that should be your first attack in the round I figure. Though if you're only really wanting to use it for positioning stuff you could definitely use it on lower pilot skills.
The YV does have some neat tricks though and while it can be lumbering, the hard 3 white helps and that full stop if used at the right time can completely surprise your opponent. Best thing to do if you're fairly new is try a build, see how it goes and decided whether it needs to be tweaked or reworked. The more you fly a ship, the better you'll learn how to deal with its strengths and weaknesses.
The problem with putting TB on someone that costs so much is you are, more or less, wasting a TON of points in a ship that is dealing no damage. TB really wants to be on a cheap ship, but, of course, low PS defeats the point of TB in the first place. The best success I have seen with TB is either take a low PS squad and allow them to shoot before you use yours. Or take a HWK (Mux or Roark, hes the best IMO for this) so you can manipulate the PS to allow TB to work properly.
Thanks for the input. I've only flown the rebels for a couple months now but I'm looking to branch out into the scum. I've been trying to make a list with the YV and the jump master. I am leaning more towards latts razzi and the popular contracted scout with plasma torpedoes. I was just curios if anyone had any luck catching a ship in the tractor beam after the initial joust to keep them in the 180 arc for another round of fire and moralo eval seemed like the obvious choice for that strategy.

Yeah but the natural problem with that is by using TB to keep them in arc for another round, means you gave up this round of fire. Its a wash.
Maybe if you are going to use tractor beam, use it with gunner+bossk, that way you either get the -1 to agility and move a small base ship (aces hate this) so it may force your opponent to spend tokens to avoid it and if they do you get the follow up attack with tl/focus
