RAAGE! (not a whining thread)

By KommanderKeldoth, in X-Wing

Rage is a pretty sweet, thematic elite pilot talent. How have folks fit it into lists? Here's some of my ideas:

Rage-swarm!

  • Youngster w/ Rage
  • "Epsilon Leader"
  • Academy Pilot x5

Fly them all in a formation, raging every turn for maximum firepower and use Epsilon to pull stress off all of them.

Keyan Rage-lander!

  • Keyan w/ Rage, B-wing title, Jan Ors and Advanced Sensors

This lets him Rage before moving, grab an evade instead of a focus and then perform a green maneuver and still have full re-roll plus a stress to spend on attacks. Give him a cannon to make him even scarier, but I like this version to keep him from getting points bloated.

4-LOM w/ Rage! (couldn't think of a good one for this)

  • 4-LOM w/ Rage, Cloaking Device, Advanced Sensors

Come in cloaked and use Rage before revealing your dial (ideally you reveal a green maneuver). If you can de-cloak and maneuver into range 1 you can light up your opponent with 4 focus + Rage-rerolled dice and then pass off your extra stress to them. Now they can't K-turn and you can come about on them again. If you can't get a shot, flee and cloak.

What are some other uses? Remember to let the hate flow through you!

Rage + Ezra (crew) + FCS on Ten Numb = 94% chance of an crit result that can't be cancelled, every turn (so long as you don't change targets). Flavor to taste with a Tractor Beam, Flechette Cannon, or Ion Cannon for (almost) guaranteed control effects.

Rage and Tycho, my favorite combination.

This one isn't anything amazing, but the idea entertains me.

Ezra Attack Shuttle

Rage

TLT/ABT/DT (whatever)

Kanan Jarus

Ezra running amok, letting the hate flow through him, and Kanan in the back telling him calm down.

Love The Keyan build, very thematic too :-)

I took a Keyan Rage! to the Campaign Against Cancer event and a Hangar Bay tournament this weekend. I liked it, but it does eat up a lot of points quickly.

Keyan Farlander

-Heavy Laser Cannon

-Advanced Sensors

-Rage

-B-Wing/E2

-Kanan Jarrus

I ran him with a couple of Gray Squadron Dorsal Turret warthogs with Engine upgrades. If I got too aggressive, Keyan died quickly. So I started hanging back and sniping from Range 3 with the HLC, and he survived much longer.

Tycho, rage, VI, test pilot, experimental interface, proton rocket.

- moves last, boosts into range one, unloads. As you're likely going to stay in range one you can (probably) survive without autothrusters.

Erp. Yeah, I think you need EpLeader for Rage swarms. I was really meh about it this time I tried it.

Howlrunner is far better (and stress-free!) compared to rage-youngster for 2-attack dice ships. One reroll is often enough when all the Ties have focus

I want to try it out on Rexler with ion engine + tractor beam (and title when veterans hits us).

Howlrunner is far better (and stress-free!) compared to rage-youngster for 2-attack dice ships. One reroll is often enough when all the Ties have focus

I find it a wash - stress is a bugger but you can cope with it, whilst Howlrunner's ability is as good as you need but goes away if she gets splashed before her wingmen fire. Youngster's boost is noticeably scarier at range 1.

I'd say this; if you've got a 6-ship swarm, normally featuring 5 black squadron pilots with Crack Shot, take Howlrunner. You're going to be firing before torpedo boats, twin laser turrets and most other generic pilots, so as long as Howlrunner doesn't get cocky (evade/juke and some sort of defensive modification), you should get one volley of fire out of the squad with no real risk.

Youngster is better used in an 8-ship swarm, and not en masse - instead, trigger Rage on the one or two TIEs per turn who you're confident have range 1 shots - don't use it on more than that or you'll find yourself unable to k-turn or barrel roll, which can be annoying for a swarm in a close brawl.

The point with Youngster is not whether he's better than Howlrunner, but whether, starting from eight Academy Pilots, upgrading one pilot to Youngster with Rage is better than upgrading four to Obsidian Squadron. Since having all but one ship be the same PS is very nice once things get up close and messy for blocking (where a swarm likes to be), I think it's a good call. Even if you only use Rage once or twice in a game, it's probably paid for itself.

So they act just like the show

Corran Horn rage double tap with Jan support!! BOOM!!!

I did this except with four Black Squadron Pilots each with Wingman to pull the extra stress off so I'm not forced into green maneuvers as often.

Oooh I never thought of that

It's quite nice, but the more points you spend on mitigating the stress, the more I find myself thinking "why not just shell out the points for Howlrunner?"

One of Youngster's biggest advantages is his range 1-3 on his pilot ability - the last time I played with the squad, I was able to face a triple jumpmaster torpedo list because the academy pilots lined up to joust whilst youngster deployed on a flank; the squad was still in range of his ability but he was safely out of arc of uber-modified torpedo spreads. Had he been howlrunner (or epsilon leader) he'd have been stuck in the middle of the swarm and probably eaten a torpedo in the first shot of the game.

Or you could just use Mangler for nearly a 100% chance every time.

I really want to find some way to use Rage on Darth Vader because not only would it work really well with ATC but it would be thematic as hell.

Maybe pair him with 2 Black Squadron Pilots (even more thematic) with Wingman?

Rage and Tycho, my favorite combination.

Imagine having a shuffle playlist comprising solely of Tycho and Rage against the Machine while playing this.

Worth it when you attack for 6 PS4-8 cracks with howl reroll.

How about a raging HWK?

Kyle Katarn (21)
Rage (1)
Twin Laser Turret (6)
Nien Nunb (1)
Moldy Crow (3)
Total: 32
I wouldn't abuse it, but when you absolutely need to hit a target with TLT, you could rage and basically get TLs for both attacks. With the title you should have some focus banked so you aren't left high and dry while you are trying to clear stress.
