A lot to look forward to in this game

By Biophysical, in X-Wing

We've got Imperial Veterans on the boat and an untold new numbers of ships based on brand new Star Wars movies. Imperials and Rebels each have a couple of Epic ships to play with. All the ESB bounty hunters have their ships.

And you know what's really great? Any given match is just between you and the person you're playing, and no other player can change that. You just get to enjoy those contests for what they are, because this is a great game, and every time you get to play is a chance for some good stuff to happen.

Amen brother!

I started playing in Wave 3 and this is by far the best meta I've gotten to play in. TIE Advanced is a force to be reckoned with, third faction that has great, fun, distinct, options. Ordnance that's viable!

Triple Jumpmasters are hot right now, but you know what? If someone had told me back when I first started that one of the top tier tournament builds was an ordnance based list I would have called them crazy.

I but wish I had more time to fly my little plastic spaceships. I don't get near as much table time as I would like.

I'm looking forward to playing so well that I can intentionally draw my last game and still make top cut and spend my 75 minute break yelling in other players faces Gordon Ramsey style.

"YOUR PLAY IS ABYSMAL, EVEN IF YOU GET 200 MOV YOU STILL HAVE NO CHANCE. WHY ARE YOU EVEN PLAYING?! JUST LEAVE ALREADY!"

game's been an absolute joy ever since Wave 7 gave it a much needed kick up the ass

only getting better

Oh please, Bio, you're just excited for more Defenders! The day before Imperial Vets comes out, there should be a throwback tournament: Defenders and Bombers only, no Titles, Final Destination.

I'm curious to see if they will introduce new ships from Rogue One (if they exist), or at least additional pilots for existing ships. Although I already worry about bloating the list of choices for an X-Wing or TIE Fighter pilot...

Really hoping Scum gets a decent ace* in the 30~35 point category.

*Ace, not a U-Boat.

Wave 8 without Soontir > Actual Wave 8> Pre-Phantom Joustwing > Wave 7 > brief period when the Pre-Nerf Phantom dominated but not everyone was flying fat turrets yet > Fat Turretwing.

Game is the best it ever has been. Meta is great now that U-Boats killed off all the NPE stuff besides for Palp Aces. No more quad TLT, Fat Turrets, or regen, it's great.

Assuming you don't draw the match.

That's also between you and your opponent, as you both need to agree to a draw :P

In more explicit terms, I think it's ridiculous for anybody to draw conclusions about the game or its players, or allow the actions of a small group of players or ex-players to change how they approach the game. If you want to go to competitive events, but are turned off by this event, go anyway. There's a lot of fun to be had by playing a bunch of X-wing in a day, if that sort of competition is something you like. If you didn't want to go to competitive events, and Roanoke reinforced your decision, that's fine, but don't assume anything about players that like to compete. If you are a competitive player, and have a strong opinion about the players involved in this event, that's fine, but I think adding a moral component to any rules legal action is a mistake. Even if you think it is gravely wrong, it's a single data point, you probably don't actually know these people, and judging them by a single act out of the context of the rest of their whole person is a pretty bad way to treat another human being.

In short:

Play X-wing, enjoy it as you would if you'd never heard of the Roanoke Regional, because letting the actions of a handful of people color your whole experience with this game is such a waste of a good game.

It´s a great game...one of the best miniature games I´ve played for years...Think the game is in a great spot right now...still waiting for scum Epics though...

I'm a competitive player, but I've stopped going to tournaments. I'm having a blast! I'm running the HotAC campaign. I'm running missions. I'm going to run the Bounty Hunter Rodeo soon. Good things ahead.

I love discovering all the fun combos the game is infinitely adding. Had never ran Vader with anything but predator before. I used juke on him yesterday and while I think I prefer predator it was an effective combo that in my casuals will motivate me to try a few more new things. Game is great.

Run him with Expert Handling -- to hell with the X1s and Omega Leaders of the world!

To be fair, even Advanced/Advanced Prototype/Interceptor aces does require actual skill.

Much as it bugs the hell out of me when someone moves after you, then boosts and barrel rolls to place themselves juuuuuuuust out of arc, then smugly congratulates themselves on being such a superb player*, being good with arc dodgers does require actual tactics and forethought; your weapons don't come in a turret, so maybe six times out of ten jinking out of a nasty attack will spoil your shot too, and whilst an autothruster equipped ace is ~^&!""!?!?!?!!111 -ing untouchable at range 3, 3 dice with maybe a focus token isn't exactly world-shattering firepower coming back the other way.

And yes, there are lots of subtle and not-so-subtle variations on the game; even something as simple as a TIE swarm - there are now enough named pilots that an 'elite TIE fighter swarm' doesn't automatically just include the six named ones - there are more combinations than you can shake a stick at, and the respective dynamics and play style of seven academy pilots and youngster with rage, and five black squadron pilots with crack shot and howlrunner with juke, whilst superficially similar effects, are actually pretty dramatic.

* Sorry. I may be thinking of specific individuals here. Nothing to see, move along.

FFG needs to drop a preview of Wave 9, like now.
