Not a lot of Brobots at the top these days. Is the meta rough for them or are they just being played less overall?
Are Brobots out for now?
There was a store champs in Melbourne, Australia today which had 3 players flying brobots in the top 4. 4th player was flying Kanan and Biggs
Brobots are out but soon defenders will be in big time if that's the play style you want double defenders will be even stronger.
Brobots never were and will probably never be out
Far too reliable to quit on
Nope!

and how awesome was it that Kanan and Biggs won the tournament beating those brobots. Wish I was there with the camera I heard the last game was a close one
Where can I see the Brobots builds for that tournament

Gooood. I want revenge over my Brobot loving friend...
Germany still is full of Brobot overrating.

Edited by KongGeorgeVIII don't think they're out per se, just on the back burner as people try out new combos from Wave 8. My recent SC saw only a couple of IGs, but they were paired with a Hounds Tooth and a Jumpmaster rather than another IG. Brobots are a very solid list, and they will continue to see some more tourney play as the newness of Wave 8 fades a little.
Palp Aces are tough for Brobots and a lot of scum players are trying out triple jump masters. Brobots are still very strong and I think always will be.
Brobots:
- ...are a list unto themselves: without sacrificing the HLC you're almost forced into a two ship squad. This prevents you from incorporating any new ships, meaning people wanting to try the new things (read: almost everyone) won't use them in the meantime. I think Tractor Beam is the only real new thing they got.
- ...have limited variation: they've been pretty much solved. Everyone's been there and done that.
- ...were weakened by the Half Points rule: they're no longer one of the game's most reliable MoV forts.
- ...are a "skill list." They're difficult to master. A popular metagame list is quick and easy power. Brobots fail on the easy.
I have a fresh take on them I'm going to try out at the Tulsa regionals this weekend. Haven't seen this build anywhere yet, which is either a good thing or a very bad thing. Will let y'all know how the squad does.
Their numbers are down right now as people try out their new toys but they haven't taken an hits to their effectiveness. They just aren't one of the only two viable competitive lists for Scum any more.
I'm still trying to figure out a good Wave 8 variant that would incorporate an IG with either Double Jumpmasters, or a single Punishing One.
Brobots are fine; they just aren't EVERYWHERE the way they used to be. Still very competitive if flown well.
Still very solid on attack and defence, I used

at my last 45 man store tourney and came 5th, Glitterstim and crack shot is so deadly combined with the TL from FCS
The IGs have some nice advantages against Jumpmasters - in particular boost on a large base ship is a great way to deny a torpedo shot by getting into range 1. It's also likely to take three torps to kill one, meaning if you can delete a Jumpmaster before it fires you've got a good chance of out-lasting their alpha strikes, and wiping up in the endgame where they'll be hard pressed to hurt you.
The downside is that there are definite squad weaknesses. In particular they can lack of firepower - HLCs let them punch through active defences, but in return they have a damage cap each turn so it can take a lot of time to chew through hit points. Palpatine + aces also causes issues (especially Omega Leader), as they can often tank the damage fairly well and outmaneuver your two ships, especially with higher PS as the IG's need to turn.
I've been thinking about IGs myself, and wondering if swapping the Fire Control System for a Sensor Jammer is worthwhile - is the increased cost and drop in offensive firepower (already limited in the list) worthwhile in return for an improved chance to survive alpha strikes?
There used to be a few theories on dual IGs and how to kit them, and all were almost equally good for different reasons. Now, every single list is identical (see the 4 instances of it posted above). I don't blame the brobot players, alpha strike is the name of the game, and HLC/Crackshot/FCS does that better than any other build. It just saddens me that such a customizable ship has dried up to one specific build.
Edited by SekacI played brobots for almost a year in one form or another. I think that the HLC/FCS version is the only viable one right now. Because you need to kill ships quickly. Palp Aces are tough matchup, Kanan is a tough matchup, triple u-boats is tough if your green dice fail you in the initial encounter. You have to fly really well to compete right now with them.

It's not.

Adv Sens is definitely better because you can avoid bumpmaster , however giving up 2 red dice for it is rough.

If you're willing to shuffle points around you can get away with a Mangler/HLC combo and only lose the 1 red.
