Tacoma, WA regionals flight 1 starts today at 4pm. Any twitchcraft happening?
Not, that I care, I'll be there! I'm in flight 2, 9am tomorrow.
2016 Regionals Results

I've compiled 931 pilots listed in the Top Cuts of Regionals from the front page, for your viewing pleasure. It includes what % of those pilots in the cut made it into the Top 4, which is an indication of how well they do when they get to the sharp end of a tournament.
I think there's some interesting stuff in here (like how bad Yorr is compared to Omicron Group Pilot, or that all three Ghost pilots have identical 44% records in making it to the Top 4).
Provisos, of course, that not all regionals are equal - some are 120 players, some are 12 players. All are considered equally here, but if something keeps doing well at enough events then there's probably something to it.
Enjoy!

Well there are a few (literally a few) in the 'Other Scum' section. I think it's 1 Boba and 2 Mandalorian Mercenaries. 0% made it to Top 4.
Holy Shnikies man have a like, and maybe take a break. That took some serious time.

The MA guy's is even crazier! (Not to discredit the value of these!)

I'd like to use my 59 point Boba, 38 point Vader list but if every list is going to be filled with fat ships with 20,000 health that have turrets I simply cannot trade damage with them.

The real surprise of the season, IMHO, has been the Inquisitor.
I think we all knew he'd be good when we saw him, but how good he is...has been a surprise. He's making the cut pretty consistently.

I think MJ has stated that he is the most efficient ship in the game, or something along those lines. I'm sure he will gladly correct me if he sees this though and that is incorrect.
Inquisitor is basically a cheaper Soontir who gets TL instead of focus, and has 2 shields on top of 2 hull instead of just 3 hull. So ya. IMO, if you aren't flying him in a Palp Ace or Imp Ace list, you are missing out on some incredible value.
Inquisitor is amazing... pretty much Soontir+ for 4pts less.
But Scouts, Inquisitor, Chopper, Lothal, Kanan, Zuckuss, Tel, Manaroo, Dengar... the whole of Wave 8 is a beating for what's gone before, by these stats at least.

Nah, Inquisitor isn't better than Soontir. The most common Soontir build gives him Stealth and AT, so for most of his life he's rolling 4 evades to the Inquisitor's 3. And Soontir gets focus just for using PtL, so he can also pretty consistently do two re-maneuvering actions vs the Inquisitor's one (presuming the Inquisitor is using PtL and burns his second action for the title). Then Soontir can also get up to a 4-dice attack, while the Inquisitor is never going to break 3. Nevermind the whole advantage of PS9 vs PS8.
I think they are priced correctly for their differences...it's just that Soontir was always a top-tier ace, and the Inquisitor being right up there with him gives the Empire some good options.
As to wave 8...I'm not sure it's better, per se - just that it's making the cut "more often" because SO MANY PEOPLE ARE RUNNING IT. I mean, in the Portland regionals, we had exactly one (1, single) YT-2400 brought to the event. Is it any wonder a YT-2400 didn't make the top cut? I don't recall seeing any YT-1300s at all. While, on the other hand, it seemed like 1/4 of the lists brought a Jumpmaster. So...yeah, those are going to be over-represented in the top tables. Not because they are necessarily better than everything else...but just because they were so much more COMMON than everything else.

Nah he's pretty much just better. Inquisitor gets Autothrusters too, hits harder, has a better dial and shields. You trade up an awful lot for that Stealth Device you lost, and get 4pts back into the bargain.

Yes but don't forget that Inquisitor do not trigger autothrusters and do not let the enemy roll one additional defense die at range 3. So I would say Inquisitor is better at range 3 (+ additional defense die), whereas Soontir shines more at close combat)

Excellent graph, really interesting to see what's actually doing well verse what's popular. Also really helpful when planning pilot skill level bids.

The Inquisitor has an extra built in health and also typically has a target lock which makes his shots more accurate -- even at close range. IMO, the only thing Soontir has over him is pilot skill, which can be significant or it can mean nothing. For 34 points, still cheaper than Fel, you can give him prockets which makes him much more effective at R1 than Fel. The only reason to take Fel over the Inquisitor in most lists is that you need the PS 9.

Ah for some reason I forgot about Soontir having PS over Inquisitor. That's a pretty big boon, although nowadays PS 8 seems to do just fine. But if there is a PS race in metas of the future, certainly Soontir will regain his throne as the top ace.

Portland breakdown:
- 15 Rebel lists
- 24 Imperial lists
- 20 Scum lists
- 12 Inquisitors
- 12 Palpatines
- 11 lists with at least one JumpMaster
And yes, zero YT-1300s.
Not a single imp or scum firespray makes me a sad panda...
Actually I've made a cut with Boba + Bossk list last weekend during Poznan Regionals in Poland (64 players)
I think it's not in statistics due to tournament not being listed here with details and Juggler entry not being completed (file data was corrupted so needs to be entered manually).

Right, so with 59 people playing, 1/4 of the group would be 14.75
IE., 12 Inquisitors, 12 Palp Aces, 11 Jumpmasters...I guess it's closer to 20% of the group vs 25%, but when you have single things that over-represented...I mean, yeah, you're going to see a lot of them on the top tables. Because obviously. Nothing to do with them being better than anything else, per se, just that there are SO MANY OF THEM out there...
That chart of pilots totally didn't show the Tansarii Point Veterans, of which 100% that made the cut got into the top 4!!! ![]()

You are forgetting, though, that the Inquisitor is limited in what 'triple actions' he can take. IE., one of them MUST be target lock to get the evade. Soontir can choose a second reposition, if it's appropriate.
IE., I find the ability to boost and barrel roll, and still get a focus token...to generally be superior to boost or barrel roll and then having to do a TL for an evade token.
Soontir is simply a vastly better arc-dodger than the Inquisitor is. And regardless of defensive abilities, the enemy misses 100% of the shots they don't get to take. (Which, granted, in this current meta of triple-or-more-turrets is a lot less of a big deal. I mean, Autothrusters is nice and all, but it's not that powerful.)
Nothing to do with them being better than anything else, per se, just that there are SO MANY OF THEM out there...
That's true for the Inquisitor. I've taken available List Juggler data for this year's Regionals and plugged them into this spreadsheet: https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1IdXry8J0tRhMNT251fhmaKRgIZtg6BaWtt7fs0ck7kY/edit#gid=1529626295
You can see the Inquisitor's representation in the cut (of Imperial lists) is about the same as the proportion of Imperial lists fielded (about 38%).
The JumpMaster, however, has a higher proportion of lists making the cut than lists fielding it (58% of Scum lists field it, but 69% of Scum lists making the cut have a JM5k). The effect is even more pronounced with Palpatine (fielded in 45% of Imperial lists, but 57% of Imperials making the cut have Palpy!).
That chart of pilots totally didn't show the Tansarii Point Veterans, of which 100% that made the cut got into the top 4!!!
In Alaska. With 12 people.

Thats a bit disingenuous isn't it? What's the point in using Inquisitor as a % of lists not even using it?

And a 4 person cut, so if you made the cut, you WERE in the top, but still! Being in alaska isn't a problem, the 12 person tournament on the other hand....(apparently we picked the WRONG weekend. I didn't get to go, and our last store championship had 24 people with several missing, so expected a lot more than 12 people at the regional...)
