Just got back from the Durham regional. Lots of ghost and palp aces. For my second tournament making top 16 I was happy. Event was ran ok only two complaints tho, didn't think we needed another " lunch break" before cut . All that did after 4 hr drive there and long day of xwing was make me sleepy and after having the largest regional to date the prize support was just awful. You would think with 120+ in attendance at 15$ a person you could do a little more than just the regional kit

Austin TX Regional with 96 slots (looks like it will be nearly a full day).

Still ongoing. I'm not sure I'd be able to play even vaguely coherent X-Wing at 4 AM... (I'm watching from the UK, so it's 10 AM here for me at the moment.)

Double IG won at the UK regional held at London

You have played the exact list like Jeff Berling. Is he a friend and you decided to take the same list? Looks interesting. No place for extra munitions? What was the strategy behind the list? looks awesome.

Patience! The players are probably all half dead. Top eight contained dual IG88 (the winners), a crack shot TIE swarm, triple jumps, Dash/Kanan and a palp aces so plenty of variety :)

I've actually seen something similar pop up a couple of times on Vassal, but I must admit I wrote it off as a gimmick list. Very pleasant surprise to see it do so well. Well played, fellas!

Re: Prize support

I think some of the complaints are missing out on something, and that's just how expensive it is to run some of these events. I can't speak for any of the other stores, but I can speak for what it cost us to run ours.

- the kits run $165-$175 depending on shipping cost that FFG has you pay

- we had to roughly double our table capacity for the day; table and chair rental ran us about $400 for the day; it cost us about $500 in materials to have enough 3x3 boards to play on.

- total product cost on the random giveaways we did that day ran about $250; we gave out three different $100 MSRP ships, as well as about $100 in food vouchers for the food truck

- to handle capacity, I had an extra staff member on hand for almost the entire day, and another extra staff member for half the day; we also opened five hours earlier than normal. Total additional staff cost was about $300 for the day

On the actual event, we had 90 paid entries, $15 per head. On pure event entry, we roughly broke even, though we also netted having a whole mess of 3x3 boards for future events. We had a total sales day of about $2700, of which half was tournament entry. Take out entry for the day, actual sales that resulted from the 90 were about $600-$700. Good, not great. For those who were there, we did not get a single penny from the food truck sales - we wanted to keep his prices as low as possible.

I would gladly do this event again, but it's not a day I look at as something that fuels my sales for the month. Total profit on the day paled in comparison to a moderate M:tG weekend. While it's great to imagine that lots of players end up buying product from the store, most players who show up to these events have just about everything they need to play at the competitive level.

If the idea is that a store shouldn't be allowed to profit from these events, then don't be amazed if your local FLGS doesn't want to host one in the future.

Top 16 Cut from Raleigh was:

7-Palp Aces

5-3x Scouts or 2x scouts plus 1

3-assorted rebels

1-Crack Swarm

Highlights from top 16 include a Dash Eaden Vrill combo flown expertly by Adam James. And a Chopper Miranda.

I know it looks like a lot of the same but none of these lists that are the same 'archetype' are the same list. I didn't play two similar lists in my 7 games of the day and the overall skill of the players at Raleigh was excellent.

I have almost zero interest in flying U-Boats. But this list, this list is my reason to get a second JumpMaster. Well done, guys!

Any streams today?

I'd say the spanish one, but that's all but wrapped up.

Any streams today?

Edit: guess the Vegas guys went home, and they were doing the stream so no stream for the top 16

I don't fully remember all the lists (it was really, really late), but I do remember that the Texas top 16 was pretty fascinating.

Hold on, are those actually Crackshot Scouts or did you confuse Deadeye and Crackshot?

Hold on, are those actually Crackshot Scouts or did you confuse Deadeye and Crackshot?

Good catch. Too many names to translate :P

The rest should be correct, but I will doublecheck.

EDIT: Done. I also missed the Crackshot for Howlrunner, and a Ion Projector for Francisco Berna's Omicron Pilot.

From my (TO) perspective, the day was...odd. We capped at 60, and had a waiting list - yet despite the best efforts of the store to call folks down the list as people cancelled, still managed to only start at 59 (we had a last-second no-call, no-show). And on top of that, then had a *lot* of people drop - even at a $15 entry fee. By the time we were down to round 6, only 50 people were still playing.

The night finished with a few...I dunno if I'd say "anticlimactic" elimination rounds. The top 8 certainly had some very close games, but by the time we got to the top 4, one of the games ended in a concession (a logical one - the game was Palp aces vs a Y-Wing swarm down to 2 fighters, so it could well have been a long match to go, still, but the result was inevitable). Then the final match ended up not being played at all - neither player could make nationals, really cared about the trophy or difference in store gift certificate between #1 and #2...it was midnight (after play starting at 9:30am) and one of the players had a 6-hour drive ahead of them...and would have been a Palp-Aces vs Palp-Aces match (quite different takes on Palp-Aces, but...Palp-Aces all the same). So one of the players just conceded early into the setup of the round.

Overall thoughts for the day were...MAN, that's a lot of jumpmasters. Not one wolfpack (triple U-boat) list, but lots of double-U-boat-plus-one-other-ship. Only saw one YT-2400 the whole day. LOTS of VCX-100, which I was delighted to see! Lots of Palp-Aces, too (obviously - 3 of the top 4 players were Palp-Aces).

Have to say, though...managed some really **** nice shots from the event...

Nice to see diverse lists in play and pulling down wins.

I have nothing personal against popular lists, I just think that multiple kinds of lists functioning in the top tiers indicate a healther game.

I messaged the store on FB about a month ago and was told the cap was already full at 40, I would've gone otherwise.
