2016 Regionals Results

By MajorJuggler, in X-Wing

In Munich, Germany, there has already been a Regionals last weekend on the 2nd april.

The date was finalized before the new rulings took place, so it was quite a hassle that they could keep the date.

Either way, here are the results out of my memory ...

40 players, including 6 U-boat lists, lots of ghosts and only a few remaining TLT.

Don't know the results of swiss for most players except the first, so these are the final standings after Top 8 cut.

#1 (#1 after swiss) - Brobots B+C, A.Sensors, 1 HLC, 1 Mangler, AT and Predator (don't know if 1 point for Illicit or initiative)

#2 - RAC with Adabtability, Engine, Captive and Palp / Whisper with VI, FCS and ACD

#4 - Soontir with PTL, AT and TC, Jax with PTL, AT and Stealth, Inqui with PTL, Title and AT

#4 - 4 Scum TLT

#8 - 2 Lothal Rebel with FCS and Stresshog (****, 40 points of HP °_° )

#8 - Soontir with PTL, AT and Stealth, Jax with PTL, AT and Hull, Inqui with PTL, Title and AT

#8 - Super Dash with Kanan Crew, Lothal Rebel with ABT, FCS, Hera Crew and Intel Agent

#8 - Super Dash with Kanan Crew, Miranda with TLT, C3PO and some sort of Ordnance

Cheers!

I'm loving that neither U-boats nor PalpAces won either Regional. Further loving that neither squad is really something that had been seen a month ago. 5 A-wings! An Alpha Squadron Pilot, for Pete's sake!

And for the record, I know that a PalpShuttle was in the winning VA list, but there's no way that 4 sub-20 point ships can be considered "Aces".

they can if the pilot is amazing ;)

Something I missed upthread (if it was there): How many players in the Arizona Regional?

This variety of lists intrigues me. I really love seeing double Ghost lists like the one above... I think there is something there.

I've also noticed a renewed interest in Dash, though it would seem like the Palp-Aces lists that are running rampant would spell a lot of trouble for Dash.

Thanks! I'm assuming that Dash in both lists was:

Dash + PtL + HLC + Outrider + EU + Kanan Crew

From scanning their Facebook group, looks like the NM Regional had 35 players.

From scanning their Facebook group, looks like the NM Regional had 35 players.

That seems really small. The Virginia one seemed really small, too. There have been a lot of SCs across the country that have been a lot better than that.

I wonder if Campaign Against Cancer or the Hoth open (or even space limits) had anything to do with that. CAC in MN had 80 players.

What won the CAC tournament?

I know for sure that there were a number of players at the Utah CaC that were considering going to the New Mexico regional but were sad to hear it occurred on the same day.

And I agree I thought Virginia for sure would have had at least 50 show.

Factoid: after round 5, exactly 8 players were 4-1 and 5-0, so all 8 took intentional draws in round 6 of Swiss.

What won the CAC tournament?

In MN, Brobots faced off against 3 Contracted Scouts and the Bots won. Keep in mind, though, this was a casual tournament with the pod format, six games total and no cut.

I was top 4 in NM. There were only 3 byes used.

Lost to Julian's A-Wings in the semis.

7 people had 1st round byes (it is possible that one of those might have been due the odd number of people) and their Swiss standings wound up being #3, #4, #9, #11, #13, #15, and #31.

Interesting to see no Rebels in the Roanoake regional, lots of Palpmobiles

Lost to Julian's A-Wings in the semis.

I'd be interested to hear about how he flew the 5 A-wings. Did he use Adaptability to make a few (or all) a lower PS in order to block? I suppose that's the beauty if Adaptability on A-wings--you could use it to go PS2 vs Scouts in order to block them, or PS4 vs TLT Y-wings to get into the bubble, or some combination thereof.

I know at hoth Ron brannon was running 5 a wings and went to ps4 against scouts, not sure if that's prevailing wisdom or was just his plan for that situation

Glad to see u-boats competing without dominating so far. Not looking great for B's still. Or non-Biggs X's.

So do we put an asterisk on the win for Roanoke since there is controversy?

No. We leave that conversation for one of the many other threads discussing it. Regardless of how anyone feels about it, it's over and the results are recorded here.

The New Mexico results are really interesting! Definitely seems like there was a really wide field. Hoping the same for next weeks regionals.

NM was 37-39. Only 16 tables for round 1, so 4-7 byes used.

A-Wings were all PS4 in the final vs Scouts. Didn't see any of their other games, but faced the same list twice three weeks ago in a Phoenix SC (with 50 players), where they made the cut but lost to scouts in the top 8. Also all PS4.

Phoenix apparently failed to have a store step up and apply for a Regional this year (last year's Phoenix Regional was 76, I think?), but traveled well to New Mexico with 5 of the top 8 coming from Arizona.

It was 5 rounds to top 8 in NM. After 4 rounds, 11 players had 15 or more points. The two undefeated Crack swarms drew in. The next 9 all played. One 3-2 player made the cut.

Full Howl Crack swarm was Howlrunner, Wampa, 2x Black Squadron, 2x Omega Squadron, all 5 EPT slots filled with Crack Shot.
