2016 Regionals Results

It's pretty refreshing to see a TIE Advanced with Homing Missiles in the top four. Pre-Raider if that'd happened we would have assumed it was a four-person tournament :D

I love OL, but I feel as if I am CONSTANTLY getting the poor bastard[ette?] killed lately. I suspect it's because there's a much bigger awareness about the shenanigans he can pull, but I still see the ship constantly in the top charts.

I must just have lost my touch with the TIE/FO. I need me some boost.

No boost. Only barrel roll.

Omega Leader did very little work for me. Survival was her only goal and she went 6 games without a face plant.

Dallas got two free rides vs me. An ID. And I had to concede for family stuff for or top 4 not-to-be-rematch. It would have been a great game. My first vassal league match was against his exact squad.

Well done Dallas! Seems like a great guy and obviously an amazing player!

One of the players who drew did not make the cut.

A quick disclaimer: I have nothing against players who offer or take draws. FFG OP put them in the rules, and I blame only them.

But seeing this still pleases me greatly. :)

I'm curious how many people have missed a cut because they declined the ID.

I know in Roseville there was at least one that declined and lost, so he missed the cut.

Two of us from roseville turned down the draw and lost out. Doing so let the highest 4-2 in and he had massive MOV 913, so he deserved the slot.

Thank you!

Scouts seem to be dominating the non-NA regionals. We're they released much later in other continents than in NA?

Not as far as I am aware, but at least the German meta is a lot slower and more easily swayed by flavour of the month lists. Nobody ran stress controll (except for me) until Paul won Worlds with a Stresshog. After that you couldn't see anything else for a long while. People also are pretty convinced that Brobots are the most broken thing ever, for some reason. I imagine if I went to a tournament right now it would be nothing but U-Boats, most of them in suboptimal configurations, with one or two Palpaces who would take the whole thing and push my Gamma Squadron Pilots out.

What U-Boat build is suboptimal and was optimal in your opinion? :)

As i see by the results a lot of different builds winning ;)

Suboptimal is one that uses none of the crew options, doesn't mix torps to maximize Boba and instead of running a Bumpmaster or a U-Boat with only one shot doesn't use one of the R4s. The worst thing is OCR4 on Proton Torp Scouts.

All things I have seen that make me sad.

Agree with you on this.

I like the lists that i seen with Boba and Lom for example, even Intelligence Agent is nice on them :)

Overclocked R4 is not bad in my opinion, but on Proton rocket Scout, it's wasted agree on that :)

Exactly, yet I have seen this:

Contracted Scout (33) x 2

JumpMaster 5000 (25), Extra Munitions (2), Proton Torpedoes (4), Overclocked R4 (1), Deadeye (1), Guidance Chips (0)

Contracted Scout (34)

JumpMaster 5000 (25), Extra Munitions (2), Proton Torpedoes (4), Boba Fett (1), Overclocked R4 (1), Deadeye (1), Guidance Chips (0)

Its the "I have heard U-Boats with Proton Torps are good, and Boba is so OP"-list. It is sad to see when with only minor effort you can come up with an infinitely better list:

Contracted Scout (32)

JumpMaster 5000 (25), Extra Munitions (2), Plasma Torpedoes (3), Overclocked R4 (1), Deadeye (1), Guidance Chips (0)

Contracted Scout (33)

JumpMaster 5000 (25), Extra Munitions (2), Plasma Torpedoes (3), 4-LOM (1), Overclocked R4 (1), Deadeye (1), Guidance Chips (0)

Contracted Scout (35)

JumpMaster 5000 (25), Extra Munitions (2), Proton Torpedoes (4), Boba Fett (1), R4 Agromech (2), Deadeye (1), Guidance Chips (0)

This is what I believe to be the greediest possible U-Boat list that you use when your opponents don't expect it. Evolving from there as you noted there are a great number of lists that involve Bumpmasters in various configurations, entirely different third ships like Zuckuss and all that, which is pretty exciting, but that still doesn't stop people from making those unneccesary mistakes that stem from not understanding the build at all.

(...) The worst thing is OCR4 on Proton Torp Scouts. (...)

I disagree. Overclocked R4 is good for defensive purposes. If you have 1 pts to spare, and you don't care about initiative bid its good addition even on "Boba - proton - scout".

Scouts are usually shooting after the oppontent, so if you roll - lets say 2 "eyes" on defense dices - you have option to take a 1 stress and save 2 points of dmg but still be able to fire torpedoes. 2 dmg saved for 1 stress? - great deal if you ask me. With Agromech R4 you have to eat this dmg willing to fire torpedoes. Under focus fire this is sometimes question if you surivive to spit out this last-torpedoe-breath :) . Overclocked works in defense like Glitterstim, if you dont care about future actions (like because you have last topredoes and you are dying)

That's a lot of Regionals in one weekend. Took a while just compiling it all... there's still quite a bit of missing info, so feel free to fill in the holes.

A lot of the Roseville top lists are discussed in Radio TCX's podcast: http://radiotcx.podbean.com/

They breakdown some of the matchups succinctly and go through a bunch of the lists.

Faction split:

28% Rebel

38% Empire

38% Scum

Wow, 104%. Amazing! :P

Yay! What do I win

I believe this is correct from the front page lists.

^ if it is,

That seems quite the mistake with the JM5K's design.

Even Phantoms didn't make that much of a splash, iirc.

As somewhat of a statistics nut, I always enjoy presentations like these. But what about TIE swarms? Dash?

Dash is probably covered under Ghost+X since he's usually paired with a Ghost.

Tie Swarms are crack swarms these days..

Isn't TIE swarm covered by "crack swarm" category? Dash is probably split between others (dash + miranda/poe/awings) and Ghost (popular list dash + lothal or chopper).

The TIE Swarms are Crack Swarm (I don't think there's a non-Cracked swarm in the cut?)

Dash is in the Ghost X. TBH it's the one group that I probably should have split, but I kept together for their greater numbers. Dash Ghost has a pretty good record 2/5 made the Top 5 while the other pairings for Ghost faired less well (2/7). There are a few Dash X (Poe/Chewie/Corran) but they did less well than Dash/Ghost.

Also, for clarity: the 'Contracted Scouts' group is most Triple Jumpmaster but includes the variants with the 'Bumpmaster' and also variants that switch the 3rd Jumpmaster for a similar hard-hitting ship like Zuckuss or a pair of missile Zs. I felt like they were similar enough in overall approach to group together seeing as the Palp Aces group also has significant variation in actual ships.

Nice breakdown! I was confused about the last column (seemed a lot of lists making it into the top 4%) until I realized it meant the % in top 4. Derp.

I assume we have under-reporting of lists not in top 4? 40% seems high making it to top 4.

Another way to slice it would be a breakdown of proportion of lists in top 4

Palp aces: 21%

U-boats: 26%

Crackswarm: 10%

Ghosts: 7%

Aces: 5%

Brobots: 2%

Deci/phantom: 2%

A-wings: 2%

Other: 21%

I think there's some under-reporting, but it's also about the weighting which give Top-8s only vs Top-16s. In a Top 8 list then obviously 50% make Top 4!

One of the most important thnigs that's not revealed by that table is that the European/US metas are vastly different. US sees Crack Swarms doing well, while most of the Jumps come from European events.

Right, but it'd also be cool to see total numbers of all entrants (e.g. What proportion of U-boats etc are not making it to the cut?).

Wonder what drives the difference in metas?

So statistics tell me when I take A-wings I will be in the top 4 cut for sure ;)
