Decimator build without Emperor

By Hos, in X-Wing Squad Lists

Hi all, first time poster, long time reader.

I've just got a Decimator and unsure which pilot to go with and what upgrades to take on it and hoping for some advice. I don't have the Emperor to put on it, was thinking something with Rebel Captive and Ysanne Iasard.

I plan on pairing it up with Whisper with VI, FCS, Kallus, and ACD.

My favorite build with Rear Admiral Chiraneau so far is Predator + Gunner + Vader + Moff Jerjerrod. I'm gonna fly it with Whisper (minus Kallus since I don't have him) at my league tonight and see how it goes, but it does really well just play-testing it with my friend. We did a Top-Gun (2v2 120pt) tournament with the same Decimator build with the Inquisitor and Carnor Jax and got first place with it.

One of the Imperial builds at last years world did a similar Decimator only with VI + Engine Upgrade + Gunner + Vader instead. I'm not a big fan of this build since giving RAC VI makes him a PS 10, meaning he shoots before Whisper. That means if you miss and end up using Gunner, you won't be able to attack again that round, which could mean bad news for Whisper since he needs to attack in order to cloak up.

The Emperor isn't actually even worth the 8 points he costs to the Decimator itself. The value he adds is most beneficial to whatever ace is flying along with the Decimator. If you're not flying a point intensive ace that you're desperate to protect, taking 2 other crew members is preferable to taking the Emperor.

I like Gunner, Ysanne and Rebel Captive. You can also replace either Rebel Captive of Gunner with Vader crew. I'll actually be trying out a super Stressimator later tonight, with Ysanne, Rebel Captive, Mara Jade, and an Ion Bomb on RAC, for good measure. Lots of fun options.

Would Thermal Detonators be better for that, assuming you have The Ghost. (I hope that they put them in a cheap ship too, hate having only one.)

The damage component might make it a bit stronger vs. swarms, but in general I would say that Ion+Stress is better than Stress+Stress, which is not to mention that Mara Jade will trigger if I've Ionized them with an Ion Bomb, but not if I've stressed them with a Thermal Detonator.

The Decimator's Gunner doesn't prevent Whisper from attacking.

I think he means that if you kill that only target whisper wont be able to shoot and generally you also want whisper to shoot before any of your ships

Not if your opponent has rebel captive! (which is one of the reasons people used to put VI on Chiraneau)

My version uses adaptability on RAC (engine, gunnner,Vader)

That way it matches whisper at 9 and all the firing freedom in the world.

Plus now you get kallus and a point for initiative

I have a Ramming stress Decimator

Captain Oicunn — VT-49 Decimator 42
Expert Handling 2
Tactician 2
Mara Jade 3
Rebel Captive 3
Ion Projector 2
Ship Total: 54

My favored build for my Decimator is:

Rear Admiral Chiraneau (46)

Expose (4)

Experimental Interface (3)

Ysanne Isard (4)

Mara Jade (3)

Gunner (5)

Total: 65

I run it into the thick of the enemy as it can take a lot of damage and is best utilised at range 1.

After movement put a target lock on an enemy, then experimental interface will give you Expose as a second action, 5 shots at range 1 on a turret is as good as it gets for imperials lol.

If you run it in close to a lot of ships mara jade will give all enemy ships a stress token at the end of combat which can slow down your opponent down.

Gunner is a second chance for high evade ships to get hit, tho sometimes it can be useless.

Two things will happen with any decimator which can work in your favour:

1- it gets focussed, which it can take for a long enough time that your other ships are left alone and can soften up the enemy

2- it gets left alone, in which case is good because in late game without much damage it can stomp your remaining enemy's ships.

Sorry for the long post. Hope this helps.

How do you utilise expert handling as I've only built a ramming decimator once before, and it was a bit hit and miss (no pun intended).

Keep in mind that if you use Experimental Interface then Ysanne cannot trigger.

What you do is take a focus or target lock for your normal action. And then when you can use Ysanne, trigger experimental interface to expose and then receive the stress.

Yup.

I've mostly used to to block enemyships so I get to use of the Ion Projector. It's quite easy to bump enemy ships to death if they trigger the ION projector and I bump them. An intelligance agent might be a good complement though and some other ships to clean up the pieces.

I've run Kath with Marksmanship and gunner to this list to deal even more stress.

Did you find Marksmanship useful, given that youre relying purely on rolling evades to avoid damage?

I've always wondered what Marksmanship would be like on a Decimator as you don't really care about using a focus for defence, but everyone reccomends against it (probably rightfully so...)

Hi, My Build is:

Captain Oicunn - ruthlessness, Agent Kallus, Mara Jade, Ysanne Isard, Fletchette torpedoes, dauntless, anti pursuit lasers

Academy Pilot

Wampa

Going to have fun playing with it in casual this weekend. Perhaps a little all eggs in one exploding basket but I never said I wanted to win :)
