Tournament legal third party stuff

By Muelmuel, in Star Wars: Armada

So, I was considering getting some acrylic rulers from third parties, but I found some cardboard at my local art store that is very similar to the material used for the core set ruler, tokens, markers, etc. I could probably cut some rulers of all the different lengths out of this art store material. Would this count as 'third-party' if they are cut to right lengths and can I bring it to tournaments?

I'll gladly let my opponent use it and might make extra sets of rulers to share quicker. :)

Also, on a side note. Aside from acrylic rulers what other 'modifications' are considered tournament legal/not legal? For example, acrylic activation sliders, acrylic tokens and markers, etc.

P.S. I have not entered any tournaments yet but would like to future-proof my stuff for potential tournaments.

I mean, nobody's going to raise a fuss over acryllic token and stuff. Ships should be standard to prevent confusion I imagine. I personally would prefer opponents use the standard cardboard ruler or the FFG acrylic, to eliminate any differences, but I wouldn't raise a fuss about it.

The Rules Document essentially states that 3rd Party Range Rulers are Allowed, but one person is allowed to say "Hey, in case things are wonky, we only use One Range Ruler between us - We use the Same one."

All other components are nominally not okay, as only Original FFG Components are allowed...

HOWEVER

The Marshal/Judge is the final adjudicator of what is Legal and what is not.

If they say Okay, its Okay.

if they say it is not okay, then you must have the original FFG component to swap in, or you risk being disallowed in the tournament.

As a variation on this question, what about the range rulers from the Store Championship kits. In your collective opinions, are those equally official as the cardboard range rulers from the core sets?

Honestly, in two years of X-Wing and Armada since the very first, I have yet to see somebody be persnickety about this. But, who knows, somebody may get a bug up their butt at Regionals.

Well, they are official FFG Products - But the "We'll share a tool" rule should apply as well.

Thanks!

So the Marshal/Judge is the one who holds final decision. Then he/she is also the one who determines whether my self-made rulers are 'third-party'? Can he/she allow acrylics but deny mine?

I think you're fine 999 times out of 1000, but there's always that tiny chance someone wants to make a thing out of any piece that didn't come in the starter.

Ok thanks!
