Rogue One (no mentioning Jyn)

By Felswrath, in Star Wars: Imperial Assault

I'm sick of reading about the differences and similarities of the sexes. There is so much more that can be discussed. New stormtroopers. New tanks. Atats. Heroes (other than Jyn) The royal guards. The Imp leader. The hooded figure. This thread is for that. If you want to discuss female leads, go to the other thread.

I'm excited to see some actual Star Wars stuff in a movie.

And hopefully NO JEDI!

Yeah, a non Jedi SW movie (hopefully) is gonna be cool!

I was thinking about how FFG may integrate Rogue One into IA last night while freezing by butt off at my daughter's track meet (1st in shot putt, 3rd in discus; Go Elise!!) and I'm a bit conflicted.

One of the hooks for me about IA is that it is a light RPG game where the players take on the roles of tertiary characters to fight the Empire with the occasional team-up with a Star Wars primary character. With Rogue One, the primary characters are tertiary characters in the vast SW mythos. Do the rebels get to play as the stars of the movie or do you have the movie characters be guest stars while the players get to be more tertiary characters as per the current IA "storyline"?

Character selection is not my only concern though. Another great part of IA is that you undertake missions that have no lasting consequences to the Star Wars mythos but still feel like you are contributing to the success of the Rebellion (at least that I have encountered thus far). If FFG uses Rogue One as a basis for an expansion (or even a new starter??), the campaign has to be set in Time Period 1 and in the final battle, the Rebels kind of have to win (Spoiler alert - the Rebels obtain the Death Star plans :P ).

While it might be interesting to have the Rogue One characters available to play thru all of the different expansions (since they could possibly survive the movie and be involved in the Rebellion going forward), I'm still a bit concerned that being able to play as the movie characters might reduce the immersion aspect of the game which I so enjoy.

Thoughts?

I doubt (and hope not) that any of the Rogue One characters will be heroes. It would break the 'create your own story' thing that IA currently has going and put an obligation on the people playing established characters. We already have that problem with allies and villians when someone like Luke or Vader get shot 5 times but "oh they just escaped".

The final mission in a Rogue One focused IA expansion could still be to steal the Death Star plans or related to it. Winning the mission just determines if your heroes survive the mission or not. Kind of like how the final mission in Twin Shadows goes... either way the Star Destroyer blows up, but if you lost the mission you go with it.

Still don't know exactly what it is, but doesn't feel Star Wars-y to me. I know it's just a trailer, but already explosions with people flying everywhere and shaky-cam shots. Star Wars had great cinematography with a smooth, often stationary camera even during fight/flight scenes.

Otherwise, I'm glad to see original trilogy designs. Forest Whitaker looks like a Warhammer Space Marine though... what's up with that?

He (Forest) is playing a bounty hunter apparently. What his risk is? No idea.

I'm really into the new villian, a intelligence lead is a great idea as an adversary.

He might be a Grand Admiral.

Grand intelligence admiral? I guess we'll see ;)

As for IA related: Dark Troopers and tanks please now!
