Descending into Descent

By Kemengon, in Descent: Journeys in the Dark

My wife and I are looking to get into D2E, now it looks like the upcoming app will make it a coop experience - so I have come to ask for some insight and advice from this distinguished community. We have IA and have Mice & mystics, but a coop descent is really far more appealing than either. Here's the rub: I wanted to get a little more than the starter box in the first go - especially if this means more variety and options for use in the app down the road (I'd like to get things soon, in case the price climbs or availability drops).

Acknowledging that everyone has their own bias, I had in mind getting one of the smaller boxed expansions, as well as one H&M pack to start. That H&M pack was likely going to be Visions of the Dawn, since I like more traditional monsters, and can uses these as stand-ins for the ettins & merimiods (?)... although I love the look of Bonds of the Wild. As for expansions, I like the fact that Manor of Ravens and Trollfens seem to work well with the starting terrain tiles. I plan on using these for certain roleplaying projects in the future, so the more interchangeable, the better.

So would the Starter game, VoD and, say, Trollfens be a good collection to start? I would love advice, condemnation, or any other contributions.

Thanks!

Greetings,

My main advice would be to make sure you get a copy of Descent with the new campaign.

Then give it a play through before rushing to get expansions so that you have a feel for what you would like to add.

I like the swamp location of Trollfens, which was my first boxed expansion and Manor of Ravens is excellent for the bandits and overlord decks. They will complement the main campaign with the descent base game.

For heroes and monster packs my first was bonds of the wild with three great monster groups and some really interesting heroes. The Giants in Crown of Destiny are also great fun.

I don't have visions of dawn so cannot comment.

Enjoy descent
