So looking at the trailer it looks like the same plot from Dark Forces, that classic FPS often called a Doom Clone with Star Wars skin where you steal the Death Star plans and give it to Princess Leia.

So in Dark Forces there was two main characters. Kyle Katan (the player) who was the person that was on foot there was also Jan Ors who acted more as the boss. She recruited Kyle Katan into the alliance and ends up giving him his missions. However in the trailer while it sounded similar only in the vaguest of context it looks like Disney will replace the duo with well a girl.

So I guess the question is this the Dark Forces plot and are these the same characters or has it been scrapped like the rest of the EU?

Dark forces was practically my first FPS I loved, especially with Jedi Knight.

That being said, I think you may be forgetting what most of Dark Forces was about. The first mission was 1 man Katarn stealing the death star plans. No team, no nothing. The entire rest of the game was dedicated to tracking down dark troopers, the super powerful robots with a really cool gun that shot big balls of energy AND had a rocket launcher. For the most part, honestly, Kyle's role in stealing the DS plans is relatively un-important and was just in the game for sales (the demo was the first level after all).

Does that mean that Jan Ors and Katarn are gone? No, it just means that they personally didn't steal the deathstar plans. Unless of course that really is Jan, only time will tell.

For all we know, Katarn and Jan could be the stars of the potential live action show set on Nar Shadda from the remnants of 1313.

Even if that were true (and I wish it was), she doesn't say 'Jan', she says 'Jyn'.

And she doesn't say 'Ors' (as in the things needed to row a boat), she says 'Urs'.

Unless she's adopting a South African accent (!), in which case forget all the above...

I love the Dark Forces / Jedi Knight series, infact Kyle and Jan have gone down as my favorite characters in the entire EU/Legends and Dark Forces was the game that inspired me at a young age to work towards getting into the games industry.

That being said, Disney wanted a fresh start for new fans and nixed the EU/Legends which is sad, but not terrible, things can still be retconned or head-canoned in if you wish.

I run a Star Wars RPG game and I usually reconcile the two canons in any way I can if possible. In this instance I simply state that Kyle and Jan did not get their hands on the actual plans, but they were the team that discovered about the weapons test and got the information that will assist the 'Rogue One' team in their mission. They still play a part in getting the plans, but not alone and directly.

Jan or not Jan makes no difference. The Legends character most know and love will likely have little in common with this new iteration.

Disney went clean slate with all existing video games as well. Best to treat this like you've been MIB'd. In other words, what you think you know you do not know. Otherwise you're gonna have a bad time.

And if they borrow the plot directly from Dark Forces, with Jan taking a more direct role, what then?

Frankly, they can do that. If they want to take the game and write a direct translation of that to the big screen (or at least expanding the first level and using Kyle's and Jan's backstory to lead up to it more), they have every right to. Changing the names is just fine.

But me, I'll just sit here and watch.
