Torps on the X-Wing???

By Eyegor, in X-Wing

I know this has been asked many times since the very beginning, but has anyone found a good way to make use of the X-wing torpedo slot? Up into recently the answer was definitely NO, but has that changed?

Even though you give up Integrated and regen I've been trying to come up with a way to make Targeting mech + Chimps work. So far, not making much progress.

What about torp selection? Anyone have favorites? Or point costs that fit nicely into a list.

Thanks for your replies.

Only one I might consider is on Hobbie with a Targeting Astromech. Targeting droid gives him a white 4K but even better because he can end the 4K with target lock and focus. Like Defenders, you need to use his predictability to surprise your opponent and not K-turn when they expect you to. Probably not the worst use of 30 points.

Guidance chips take the same spot as integrated astromech though so...

erm. You're gonna try and fire off a Chimp-Only Modified shot on a K-Turn and give up the only lovin' the X-Wing was recieved since Wave 1 to do so? Good luck with that.

Sorry, could not resist.

· R7-T1 (3)

If wedge can use Droid to boost and target lock then focus, your looking at 5 hits all but guaranteed with APT, focus and chips.

X-Wing: · Jek Porkins (26)

Stay on Target (2)

Proton Torpedoes (4)

Targeting Astromech (2)

Guidance Chips (0)

Can change your dial to get someone in arc or kturn, get target lock, porkins clears stress and get a focus for top or defense.

Refit?

Another idea is to give Hobbie R3-A2, Flechette Torpedoes and Munitions Failsafe.

Refit?

Yeah, I wish it would true, it would solve so many of my failed attempts of building a decent X-Wing Squadron. That card never should have been A-Wing and Missile-Only.

...are a bad idea

/thread

poor x-wing having access to the very nice integrated astromech slot and overriding access to chips makes it perhaps the least likely ship to ever use ordnance, not counting those that can't take ordnance to begin with (though those ships are more likely to have chips than the X, because why not?)

I just wish I could take extra munitions to eject a second droid.

Too fragile, but use Tarn, and have your opponent give you your target lock :P

Tarn Mison

Plasma or Proton Torpedoes

R2-D6+Crack Shot or Predator

Guidance Chips

Would be great if somehow c wing could have both chimps and lrs. Or an astromech that did something on a white or green (like generate focus) ... because one basically needs 2 actions to utilize ordinance (target lock and focus) and targeting astromech requires a red move so u only getting 1 action.....

This! So many people get caught out by hobbies ability with ta, it helped me win a tournament. I didn't use a proton that time though as points were spent elsewhere. I personally think hobbie is one of the better support pilots in the game after the introduction of TA and IA.

We could get a "Real Targeting Astromech" that combines the functionality of deadeye+chips

Indeed, chips+deadeye would be make an decent astromech for the X-Wing.

Deadeye. There is any of talk of how this EPT is useless after you fire munitions, but I'm of the opinion that is both underrated and awesome.

Deadeye and chips is going to make the munitions carrying jouster important again. Quick firing off a non- committal action like focus makes Ordnance very flexible.

It's a drag when your target locked enemy gets out of your arc, but deadeye let's you make the most of that mistake your ace flying opponent could make.

To the OP's point, torpedoes are harder to work with because they all force you to spend your target lock unlike some of the missiles. There are ways around it.

4-5 points for a serious damage spike sounds pretty good to me. You could even use thread tracers to give you a serious quality munition shot.

Title that makes torpedos free on the Xwing. they arnt that good without chips and you might never use them, but they add an option your opponent has to keep in mind.

Hobbie + TA + PT+ GC is a great way to spend 31 points if you know how to fly him loaded out thus. I finished 3rd in a 16-man furball at my FLGS, finishing behind The Inquisitor and a Blaster Turret/R4 Kavil. Had I remembered a focus token early on, I'd have won the whole thing. Anecdotal, yes, but don't knock the build too hard. It has legs. It's fun to fly...well, as much fun as a T-65 is to fly, that is.

Granted these were friendly games but keeping a proton torp on a humble Xwing until the end game got me the win two times in a row. Blasting in a crit on a ship w/o shields was sweet.

Yeah trading integrated astromech weak as it is for chimps is a bad idea.

It is hard for me to justify 4-Attack Torp for 4 points minus Target Lock on a 3 attack dice ship (especially when you don´t have a free modification slot for guidance chips).

I've been loading out TA + Stay on Target + Fletchette Torps on some Xwing pilots like Wedge and Wes so they zap those Aces and double stress em. I dont care if the torp hits. It's a 2pt stress dealer.

Been tempted to load APT on Tarn and just fly up to someone, focus, and dare them to fire at me.

Howare you Chardaaning when the X doesn't have a missile slot?

I remember one of my early games I played with a mix of Y-Wings and X-Wings loaded with Torpedoes. Dutch was the Y-Wing pilot. The Alpha strike decimated my opponent's squad in the opening round. Worked pretty nicely.

Dutch and Garven go well together.
