Don't forget to Recycle as you unbox!

By Rebelinst, in X-Wing

I end up using most of the plastic clamshells for figure storage and transport; otherwise they make great trays for paint storage and organization.

But I want my carbon footprint to be as big as possible so people in the future will remember me.

(throws everything on bonfire) Car-what now?

I've looked closely at the FFG packaging for their LCGs, Armada, and X-wing...

Every single one of those could be packaged better.

LCGs
- Not too long ago came in nice cardboard boxes that were barely bigger than the cards - this was good, this was very very little waste.
- Now they come in plastic clamshells with extra paper... massively wasteful in comparison. Thankfully the clamshell is #1 PET plastic so it can be recycled... but the old style was better.
- Deluxe expansions and original box sets have a box that is easily 3x - 10x to large. I just got "Imperial Entanglements" today, and for a box 1/3rd the size you could have included all the cards, and information paperwork. There are extra 'decorative' cardboard inserts in these deluxe expansions... which are to be brutally honest - just wasted material.

Armada & X-wing
- As someone said above, should have had 1/2 the needed number bases in the starter box (small and large [and medium for Armada]) just like the dice. You need more bases, buy a second starter. I have so many bases it is not funny. We do not need them all... provided that QC does not screw up like they did in Wave 8 and make everything from Wave 8 have a different peg diameter than all prior waves. QC - you have many jobs, but dropped the ball here.
- Every non-blister could have its space reduced by moving the cardboard (which we really really do not need more shield tokens, evades, focus, TLs, etc...) and cards to a thin compartment under the ship. Sure, you can't see all the way through - but is this REALLY necessary? Why not just slap a star field behind the ship, and cut the package size by 30-50%?
- Again: I just said this, but really, do we need more TL, evades, focus, etc.? I say 'No.' I end up tossing them in the recycle bin anyways.
- If you remove the excess tokens, then you can shorten the cardboard bit, and thus shorten the blister packs, saving material and reduce waste.

These are just a few ideas, or complaints, whatever.

Reduce! Re-use! Recycle!
Lets start with Reducing!

Feels like this topic should be merged with that one that shamed us all for being too white and too male.

OMG... Really! I mean Really.... Some of you seriously need to move over to the Martha Stewart form...
