Anyone else a little bothered that Imperial Veterans is doubling down on the "screw your low PS needs" of the Imperial Aces box?

After Imp Aces, I own four Tie Interceptors but can only fly two of the cheapest variety. No big deal? Alpha squads pretty much suck. Can't fly more than two Royal Guards either. (Imperial Aces bothers me for many reasons biggest miss in history of X-wing IMHO)

Now with Veterans on the way, FFG has done the same thing... sorta. We are getting two copies of the mid-PS, EPT generics which is good but you can't fly the veterans bomber as a Scimitar squadron. That kinda bums me out. Would have required 4 more pilot cards and 2 small ship inserts. Seems doable to me.

I'm still buying two of these things but c'mon...

Yeah, I'm slightly bummed that with my three defenders I won't be able to run 3 defenders in a list without ebaying a bunch more base inserts and cards or wasting plastic and money on buying two more defender blisters.

But meh, I'm mostly hype for running TIE/d Vessery and Juke/x7 Rexler anyway...

I'm with the OP. With the x7 title, there's bound to be some fun lists with triple Delta or triple Onyx pilots. At least you can run 2 Deltas and 1 Onyx (or 2 Onyx and 1 Delta) with your cards from 2 Defender packs and 1 Veterans pack.

It is pretty bad, yes. I would have liked to play the 6 Scimitar swarm, but now I'll be missing 2 for that.

I'd imagine they have a set amount of cards and cardboard they can package.

You get two generics and two named for each ship.

Imperial Aces had 2x Saber, 2x RGP and four named TIE interceptor pilots. Eight cards.

Rebel Aces had Prototype, Green, Gemmer, Jake, Blue, Dagger, Nera and Keyan. Eight cards.

Imperial Veterans has 2x Glaive, Countess, Maarek, 2x Gamma Vet, Deathfire, Tomax. Eight cards.

We sacrifice more copies of the low generics for two of the new generics. Personally I'd rather get two Glaives than a Delta and an Onyx. Same with the Gamma Vets.

The old generics are victims to wolfpack alpha strikes, the new ones alpha strike uboots from the board. So yeah, the new bomber veterans are supposed to replace the old ones.

They're another option. They're more powerful but more expensive. The Scimitar is cheaper, remains the superior minelayer and receives Long Range Scanners to allow it to alpha strike more effectively.

If the meta changes the old bombers might become interesting, but right now? What is the point to take something just a little cheaper which than gets annihilated from the board before it can fire a single shot?

Not true. The x7 Delta is 28 points. Two are 56.

44 points can get you a loaded Rexler Brath.

This will probably be one of the first lists I run with the new titles.
