Many Bothans died to bring this to you

So the question is who is the Imperial in the white cape. I guess it could be Tarkin but his uniform was more olive than this white/grey looking one that was more the look of the ISB. Also his officer medals on his chest are much different then what Tarkin had in Episode 4 with yellow medals. I'm hoping it is someone new.

As others have said the person who appears to be in a black cape with a hood bowing before the white cylinder with the Royal Guards flanking it....I guess it could be Vader but why would he have a hood as he has already got his armor and he never had a hood before. Maybe it's an inquisitor since Rebels have established them?

Would make sense to have a (new) bad ass ISB Character as the main villain in a story about intelligence and counterintelligence.

Or maybe he is a Grand Admiral ;)

I really really like the trailer. I nearly cried when I saw it. But I am lying in my bed sick and had fever when I saw him and nearly cried for everything i saw that hour....

anyhow.

What I not like in the trailer is that the Stormtroopers are seeingly back to: useless.

Its even worse now: They dont even use their guns, close in on close combat opponents and get beaten down by sticks ("Greetings from Endor")

What I would like to see:

Jyn erso does the job and transfers the plans, but gets captured, torturted and finally broken by the empire and becomes one of its agents:

Or perhaps the dark troopers are clones of her.

Arent Dark Troopers droids?

Really liking the new imperial "Stug" and the Panzer-crew:

Well, I finally am able to log in for more than 2 seconds, and this is the first thing I say. I'm just so -sniffs- haaaaappy. I am dearly hoping that it isn't one of those 'special cases' force dominated super human sorts, but a genuine non-jedi, rebellion, plot based movie. I very much agree with DScipio on, well, pretty much every point.(Good spot on the Imperial Stug)

As for a alleged main villain, I guess I figure that it will depend on the role he'll take on. If he's there to stop the rebellion, then I can see a badass counter-intelligence ISB commander If he's there to build the Death Star to the exclusion of all else, then I can see an Imperial Grand Admiral. Though it does look like he's wearing dark breeches which is an ISB 'thing', while the Admiralty tends to go pure white.

I'm going to ignore the quips about the dismissal of a female lead. I have too. I want to stay positive.

It is SO amazing to me how well the Star Wars design elements hold up after 40 years. Ralph McQuarrie was a genius.

First thing I got excited for was the reappearance of the ISD-Is. To see these variants is a rare thing in the real world, most times you see an ISD it's an ISD-II. Really love that all the details were recreated here, and put front-and-center. Also really hoping to see some merchandise for these, so I can have a proper ISD-I model without having to do conversion work of my Armada ISDs.

I'm also wondering who the identity of the White Imperial Officer is. My first guess is Yularen, but if you're paying attention you'll note his rank bar is different from the ANH briefing. Either this is a new character, his rank changed between now and ANH, or there was a production gaffe. I doubt the latter is the case given how much attention to detail there has been in these movies.

Of the ships we've seen there's only one new shuttle type. For Armada we already have ISD-Is and I doubt FFG will release another, as much as I would LOVE to have an official ISD-I variant model. Though in that scene did anyone catch that the superlaser had to be retracted into the moon?

Finally on the matter of Jyn... I can understand why some are a little perturbed by having another female lead hot on the heels of Episode 8 (and how it might reek of PCness). But immediately after understanding this, I asked, "Well how many movies should pass before we get another female lead?" Any answer seems kind of sexist, so I don't think it's an issue. All I would ask is that she has a distinct personality from Rey to establish that these are two different women protagonists. Jyn seems tough-as-nails compared to Rey's girlish innocent side, so I'm completely fine with this.

Besides, us guys are going to get TWO Star wars movies in the near future: A Boba Fett movie, and a Han Solo origin story movie. I think we can allow female protagonists, let's just enjoy their performance.

A grand admiral should have 2x7 pips not 2x6 (admiral/general rank).

Though in that scene did anyone catch that the superlaser had to be retracted into the moon?

I looked to me more like that was actually the entire dish of the superlaser being installed, rather than retracted. Which would make sense since this should be happening around the time that they finishing up assembly of the Death Star. I'm going to have to watch it again though when I get to a better computer!

And again.

And then another time.

And likely several more after that.

ship1_zpsbtotu94f.jpg

I just want to paint that ISD red and chant: BLOOD FOR THE BLOOD GOD! :D

Actually, the more I think about it, I'm almost certain that is the superlaser dish actually being installed. In fact, I'm calling it now: That is your opening scene of the movie. You have the text scrawl, the scene moves to a view of a Star Destroyer, then pulls away to show that tiny Star Destroyer in front of the Death Star as the superlaser is being installed. What better way to set up the importance of the mission of this movie? You heard it here first.

Someone remind me: why did we have to suffer through the prequels and all the animated stuff?

Because without them there would have been no Jar Jar!

Proof positive of a twisted mind!!!!

So what is the structure in between the shield pods on the ISD? Are we seeing a new model?

Nah, it's just bits of the plastic sprue that someone forgot to trim away before painting :D

Actually, the 'array' between the shield generators is the Tractor Beam Targeting Array, a feature unique to the Imperial I class. The Imperial II class had a flatter array.

im such a nerd....

Maybe Mel or Tsalt could make the ISD I Targeting array in 3D print, so nerd and Star Wars geeks alike could get another rush. ;)

Wow, I find that to be very sad. As someone who has grown up with the prequels releases; they are as dear to me as the OT, despite some flaws (of which the OT has its own). But that aside, I'm find it hard to believe that anyone wouldn't like the animated series (The Clone Wars and Star Wars Rebels). Both are truly Star Wars. I will admit the first seasons of both shows are a little lackluster (but still entertaining), but from then on they really grow to embody Star Wars. They production teams did wonderful jobs of integrating EU elements and lore, especially in this third season of Rebels. After the season finale last week I had chills just like I had while watching this trailer.

I grew up with the OT being the only (VHS) movies my family owned. I watched them until I knew all the lines by heart... even the huttese and Greedo's lines.

Reality distortion does have something to do with it, but man... when George ruined Vader's redemption scene with his "noooooo." Something clicked in me wherein everything after the THX revision was abhorrent and evil. I since scoured ebay for the DVD's of the theatrical release (bad laser disc quality included- at least Han shoots first!)

I did like clone wars (mostly- except for Darth Maul... whose secret master this whole time has been General Rieekan). I liked Rebels a lot except for aforementioned exception.

As for my thoughts on a female lead. I have no problem whatsoever with believable female leads (of which I'm sure this will be no exception). It's very important to have strong female lead and supporting characters. This is the second new Star Wars movie in a row with a female lead, so I think it does show intentionality on the part of the creators. I don't think that's an issue unless they next 2-3 movies all have female leads as well, then we are getting into territory for another discussion. However, we know that isn't the case, since we are getting a Boba Fett movie in the near future as well!

I think people need to stop worrying over something that really isn't an issue. Star Wars is a franchise that has always had numerous female characters, both minor and supporting roles; so lets not get crazy and say women are under-represented in Star Wars. That being said, since there hasn't been a true female lead role until TFA, I think it was good to have and I'm really excited for Rogue One in December!!

My dad still has his VHS OT I believe. I watched them a number of times back before the prequels released and the remastered version were released as such. I was too young to clearly remember the changes in the remastered versions, but my dad seemed okay with most of them (and he was one who went to either ANH or RoTJ, I can't remember which, 10+ times in theaters). Ahh, good memories!

I agree that at times Clone Wars did miss the mark. I didn't care for the seasonal Jar Jar, or C3PO/R2D2 episodes, and I really disliked the changing of the Mandolorians into a pacifist society (but hey, deathwatch was still cool, even if they were the bad guys). Maul surviving was definitely a little beyond my reasonable belief, but at least his character gets more screen time, like I wish he had gotten in the prequels.

The white uniform (with black trousers) is that of the Imperial Security Bureau (ISB). The character wears the rank of Admiral. Tarkin would have already been at least a Moff at that time, if not Grand Moff already. It would make sense, this new antagonist is in charge of security about the new Death Star project. Tarkin also appears at the end of Revenge of the Sith, looking rather quite like....Tarkin. This actor/character does not look like Tarkin at all. The hairstyle for starters, if one discount the uniforms we've seen Tarkin wearing.

So, contrary to internet rumors, this new character is NOT a Grand Admiral. His uniform matches exactly that of Colonel Wulf Yularen, who serves with the ISB. Its not an all-white uniform as Thrawn's was, rather it has black trousers and the same belt as Yularen's. The uniform also lacks the gold-braiding on the epaulettes and bears the rank plaque of Admiral, not Grand-Admiral.

I was extremely bored 5 minutes ago and though I saw this thread before I assumed it was yet another person using Bothans for their own dark deeds.

Wow.

I love Mon Mothma, and it's so refreshing to see the OT Stormies again after the troopers in the TFA.

The Rebel troopers that served no purpose other than to die are back, hopefully better trained and more equipped to deal with the *echem*... deadly stormtroopers :).

The new camo troopers like the Kashyyk versions look interesting, and the funny landing thing with 4 wings interests me also.

ROYAL GUARDS! The only reson I'm gonna watch this film is to see those guys fight!

Please please Disney let them fight, I feel so cheated when I watch them get trounched by Yoda in EPIII, and I want to see them do something other than drop to the floor.

Looking forward to the ATATs as well.

Gonna be interesting to see how the Rebellion fairs without any jedi (or potential jedi).

+1 from me.

Or she could be some sort of double agent so one of the rebels could yell "It's a trap" ;)

Now that was awesome. Forrest W. In it. Cool

Thanks for the post.

Dude, already heard it at the water cooler. Sorry man you were number 2. Any more guesses that might be number 1s.

ship2_zpsk1316nml.jpg

He somehow looks harder than Admiral Thrawn.

You know things get serious when the bad guys dress in white...

pic2966292_lg.jpg

Hawt! So hawt!

Who knew genderswapped Darth Vader looked so good under the helmet? :D

Ok all joking aside I already like her character.

"This is the rebellion isn't it? - I rebel."
