Green Spears. 4x Green Squadron A-wings

By DavronERC, in X-Wing Squad Lists

Hi all

Have been flying 1/2 of this list for a while, usually with a K-wing or B-wing in support.

Thinking about picking up 2 more A-wings to make the Green Spears happen.

4x Green Squadron A-wing 19pts

A-wing Test Pilot 0pts

Deadeye 1pt

Crack Shot 1pt

Concussion Missiles 4pts

Guidance Chips 0pts

100pts

Two of them are a super nasty alpha strike. I'm thinking 4 would be crazy :-)

As you are not otherwise using the mods slot why not put guidance chips on them?

Lol yep the key part of the list and I left it out LOL. I'll update the first post

One advantage of having 4 missiles w/ deadeye is you can fly in close formation and pretty much guarantee all ships fire their missiles for a devastating alpha strike. Well, at least against ships that have poor repositioning (jousters in other words).

However, to use deadeye, you have to take focus as your action, which means you can't boost if you need to (if you want to fire your missiles) and you can't use your focus defensively. So this list will struggle against other alpha strikers with higher Pilot skill (IG88s w/ HLC being the most well known such list, but not the only one). You will also have a tough time against arc-dodgers, because there's no way they will fly into the teeth of that list, and once behind, you are in the awkward position of having to choose between k-turn or run away...

I've found that I tend to do worse when trying to fly a squadron where all the ships perform the same function. It's all a bit one dimensional which can be excellent against some lists but is generally not good enough against most lists.

For example, I've been trying to get the hand of N'Dru (Scum Z-95) with a Cluster Missile loadout. I've had most success when my other ships haven't been ordnance ships.

Yeah no one is playing Iggies in our local meta so I'm not sure how well they would handle 2x gunnered HLC. I guess, run a sacrificial blocker out front.

Running a well thought out formation down a board edge can often snare an unwary ace. The big problem often is with A-wings that they move too fast, letting a prockett Vader into range 1 etc. Even a Hounds tooth or other large base ship can be in your face on turn 2 if you don't have a deployment plan to mitigate it.

Curious, why concussion over prockets?

While I love Green Squadron Pilots (They're probably my favorite ship.) I'm not in love with this build. The problem with Chardaans refit is that it created an additional 2 point opportunity cost for any other munitions you equip. You're spending 24 points on munitions in this build, not including the 4 points for deadeyes.

Beyond that, I have no idea how to fly an awing without Push the Limit. I can't tell you how many times having a focus and evade has saved my little GSPs, or how many times they've caused my opponent to mumble something to the effect of, "F@$%ing Awings!" After his target locked, focused whisper fails to do any damage.

Flew a GSP with procketts once. Died to a dodgy Vader in one shot to Vaders procketts. Been scarred ever since :-)
